From the Pastor’s Desk… ‘Let us go and proclaim the Gospel of the Lord…’

How often do you hear someone say, “I have to tell you something but you can’t say anything to anyone else.” We all know people who aren’t able to keep information to themselves. Likewise, we all know people who are supposed to relay important information to others and they don’t come through. This is nothing new in terms of human behavior. Jesus finds himself in a similar situation in dealing with his followers. In today’s Gospel, Jesus orders people not to tell anyone of his miracles. We do not know why he did so. Perhaps he did not want them so focused on the healings he performed that they would be distracted from his Gospel proclamation. But the more Jesus tells them not to say anything, the more they proclaim it. This makes it difficult for Jesus to get around and proclaim the good news to others. What is it that keeps us from fully embracing our mission of discipleship? Do we not fully believe that all are in need of salvation? Do we not fully believe that our Christian message is good news? Do we not believe that we are entrusted with the mission of evangelization? This is why Jesus constantly calls his disciples to faith. If we really believe, then we will proclaim it. We will not be afraid to talk about it with friends and strangers alike. We will not be afraid to teach it to our children and grandchildren at home, around the dinner table. When discipleship is lived, the good news is proclaimed and the Christian faith thrives and grows. We have received the good news and the salvation that comes from accepting and living it. We have been charged equally with the task of sharing it with others. It is our mission, as disciples, to evan-gelize and not to keep silent. We will know if we are fulfilling our mission by simply asking ourselves: When was the last time that I told someone the good news of salvation through Jesus, taught someone the truths of Jesus, or invited someone to follow Jesus? God bless you, Fr. Oscar

"A Prayer For the Upcoming Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the Family

    in October"

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate the splendor of true love,

to you we turn with trust. Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our

families too may be places of communion and prayer, authentic schools of the Gospel and

small domestic Churches. Holy Family of Nazareth, may families never again

experience violence, rejection and division: may all who have been hurt or scandalized find

ready comfort and healing. Holy Family of Nazareth, may the approaching

Synod of Bishops make us once more mindful of the sacredness and inviolability of the family,

and its beauty in God's plan. Jesus, Mary and Joseph,

    graciously hear our prayer. Amen.
