joined by friends and family, and the movement grew into what it is today. Relay is a team fundraising event where team mem-bers take turns walking around a designated path symbolic of Dr. Klatt’s mission. Each team is asked to have a member on the track at all times to signify that cancer never sleeps.

The day’s events will kick off at 2:00 p.m. Saturday with the Opening Ceremony, followed by special recognition for survi-vors and caregivers at 2:30 p.m. Zumba class will be held for at-tendees at 7:00 p.m., and a neon-hued Glow Run will take place at 8:00 p.m. Glow Run registration is open on-site and available for $10 (children 5 and under free), and there will be awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, along with brightest runner. The power-ful Luminaria Ceremony honoring those lost to cancer will light up the night at 9:00 p.m. Luminarias will be available to pur-chase and decorate for $10 at each team booth. Other attrac-tions include a craft fair, DJ, balloon release and silent auction.

American Cancer Society Relay For Life Community Manager Jasmine Short said, “The St. Bernard Relay volunteer leaders have gone above and beyond to ensure that this year’s event will be one to remember. I am so proud of the strides we’ve already made through our fundraising efforts! It’s an inspiring moment to see community members of all ages work together for such a meaningful cause. Together we can create a brighter future free of cancer and the suffering it creates.”

Survivors and caregivers in the St. Bernard community who have not yet signed up to Relay are more than welcome to at-tend. We encourage you to join us in our efforts in the fight against cancer.

UNO Federal Credit Union holds Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House for

their Chalmette Branch

Borgnemouth Braves White

Officials with UNO Federal Credit Union (UNOFCU) held a Rib-bon Cutting Ceremony and an Open House event at their Chal-mette Branch located inside the St. Bernard Parish Government Complex, 8201 W. Judge Perez Drive. The event began at 11:00 a.m. with the Ribbon Cutting followed by refreshments, jambalaya from Today’s Ketch Seafood and Bread Pudding from MeMe’s Bar & Grille. Also, the Credit Union held a Grand Prize drawing for 5 day cruise for 2. For more information on UNOFC contact 504-278-4259.

About UNOFCU UNOFCU, a full-service financial institution with over $25 million

in assets, was chartered in 1972 to serve members of the Univer-sity of New Orleans (UNO) Community and currently provides fi-nancial products and services to 5,000 member owners. Through-out its 45-year history, UNOFCU has collaborated with UNO and members of the extended community to provide low-cost financial services and financial education. As a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) certified by the United States Treasury Department, UNOFCU promotes savings and provides affordable credit and retail banking services to economically challenged com-munities. A nonprofit cooperative, UNOFCU is owned by its mem-bers and is insured and regulated by the National Credit Union Ad-ministration (NCUA), an independent agency of the United States Government.

Why St. Bernard Parish? In 2015, UNOFCU applied to the NCUA for an expansion of its

charter. Included in the expansion request was St. Bernard Parish. The Parish is designated by the CDFI Fund as an Investment Area, indicating that it is a financially underserved area. Upon receiving the expansion, planning began on what was to be the first credit union to receive permission to serve all residents of St Bernard as well people who work and attend school there. tive honor and $44,150 annual tuition scholarship is awarded to less than two percent of this year’s applicants the university announced. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chad O’Neil of St. Bernard Parish.

“The Camras Scholarship is one of the most prestigious honors a student can receive as an incoming student at Illinois Tech,” the announcement said. “Selection as a Camras Schol-ar is based upon a student’s demonstration of outstanding academics, involvement in ex-tracurricular activities, and ded-ication to leadership. Camras Scholars will have access to unique experiences within the areas of research, service, and leadership during their tenure at

Illinois Tech.” “Camras Scholars have

solved age-old problems in structural engineering, devel-oped novel methods for improv-ing campus life, and increased the overall academic and social ethic of their fellow students. The group’s mission is to help its members achieve their per-sonal and professional goals, while promoting excellence in groundbreaking and innovative research, social and entrepre-neurial leadership, and services to the IIT community and the world as a whole,” it continued.
