Reforming SNAP, Protecting Farmers and RanchersThis week, the House and Senate overwhelmingly voted to pass

the 2018 Farm Bill. This Farm Bill is a win for hard-working taxpay-ers, as well as America’s farmers and ranchers, and will provide the certainty and economic stability our farmers need to continue leading the world in food production. Our farmers and ranchers not only put food on the tables of American families, but also serve as the bread basket of the world.

This bill also includes key reforms to the food stamp program that will help millions of Americans move from government dependence to work and self-sufficiency. With a strong economy, and more job openings than there are Americans looking for work, there has nev-er been a better time to help unemployed Americans get back into the workforce so they can support their families and achieve the American dream.

Lastly, the conference agreement includes the House bill’s pro-vision that I fought hard to include that creates additional research opportunities for Roseau cane. This research is vital to Louisiana’s First Congressional District and our efforts to combat coastal ero-sion. I look forward to President Trump signing this reform bill into law.

Working to Fund Border SecurityThis week we continued negotiations trying to get a bill to the

President’s desk giving him the tools he needs to safely secure our border. Right now, there are about 8,000 people in the migrant

caravan trying to enter our country illegally, and the Department of Homeland Security has confirmed that more than 600 convicted criminals are part of this caravan. The reason for strong border se-curity has never been more clear.

President Trump has requested $5 billion over the next year for border security, including funding to continue building a wall, as well as technology and equipment to help our border patrol officers do their jobs more safely and effectively.

Negotiations are still ongoing, but if Democrats in Congress, led by Minority Leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, refuse to support this, then they need to come up with an alternative that addresses this crisis at the border while keeping America safe and secure. They can’t come and say they want to shut the government down because they don’t want to secure America’s border.

I discussed our plan to strengthen border security on Fox News Channel's America's Newsroom this week.

Meeting with Louisiana Restaurant AssociationThis week, I enjoyed meeting with representatives from Loui-

siana’s restaurant industry. Louisiana restaurants and cuisine are second to none, and across our state, Louisiana restaurants em-ploy over 200,000 people. It was great to catch up on issues that impact Louisiana’s restaurants and the thousands of hard-working Louisianans they employ.

It is an honor to represent you in Congress. For more information please visit my website, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook pages.

God Bless,Steve Scalise,House Majority Whip

PJ’s Coffee Releases New Nitro Cold Brew, Zero-Calorie DrinkPJ’s Coffee of New Orleans, creator of the Original Cold

Brew™ Iced Coffee, has kicked up the coffee game again by launching PJ’s Nitro Cold Brew Coffee—available this week at all PJ’s Coffee locations across the country. PJ’s Nitro Cold Brew Coffee infuses nitrogen gas into its classic cold brew, creating a creamy, stout-like effect—with zero calories. The canned nitro coffee is available in two flavors: Original Cold Brew Coffee and Southern Pecan. The new

product is the first ready-to-drink offering from PJ’s Coffee, founded in New Orleans in 1978.“We’ve been serving our unique nitro-infused cold brew recipe on tap inside the original PJ’s

location on Maple Street in New Orleans since it reopened this fall—and people love it,” said Felton Jones, PJ’s Roastmaster. “We knew our flavor profile was something special, and we’re now excited to offer it to all our PJ’s customers.”

PJ’s Nitro Cold Brew Coffee is made with PJ's Viennese Blend—100% Direct Trade beans from Finca Terrerito in Honduras and Agua Fresca in Nicaragua—before being infused with ni-trogen for a smooth texture.

“A lot of people enjoy an iced coffee but may not want the extra calories from milk or cream. The nitro cold brew is a great option for those looking for their coffee-fix on-the-go, while trying to stay healthy,” said Peter Boylan, president of PJ’s parent company Ballard Brands.

PJ’s Original Cold Brew™ Iced Coffee is brewed daily using a special cold-drip process that protects the flavor and strength of the beans, while producing a coffee that is 2/3 less acidic—a process and technique pioneered by the PJ’s founder and used for more than 30 years.

PJ’s Nitro Cold Brew Coffee is available this week at all U.S. PJ’s locations for $3.50. Find a local PJ’s location at: https://www.pjscoffee.com/locations/. PJ’s Nitro Cold Brew Coffee will also be available in grocery stores in the future. PJ’s Coffee has more than 100 locations globally.

Trist Middle School November Students of the Month

Nineteen 8th grade students at N. P. Trist Middle School were recently nominated for Student of the Year. Students qualified for this honor based on rigorous criteria. Students are first screened based on their academic standing. This includes being in the top of their class with both grade point averages and all standardized test scores from their previous school years.

The portfolio included a description of academic accomplish-ments, leadership roles and extracurricular involvement in school and community, along with a written essay and a writing sample. The writing sample required the students to do a cold read of an informational text and respond to a writing prompt. The nominees were also interviewed by the selection committee. Scores from the portfolio and the interview were then used to select the Student of the Year.

Trist Student of the Year Nominees are standing in the first row are Mikylla Maghirang, Nga Phan, David Vu, Randon Bourgeois.
