Journeying through Lent and Holy week was a memorable experience at Eastminster! Thanks to the many, many members and friends who played a part in the vibrant worship, education, fellowship and mission that made this time meaningful. My hope is that the Eastminster family is strengthened and inspired to keep growing in the Christian life in the days to come!

My challenge is that we do not ease off in Christian devotion in the days ahead but “step up” with God’s help. In April and beyond there will be ways in which all can learn and live the Christian faith together. For instance, this Sunday at 8:45 a.m. a new Adult Education class begins a video series with arguably the best living New Testament scholar, Dr. NT Wright. Coffee is available in the kitchen area and the class is held in the second floor of the Christian Ministry Center. Also this Saturday at 6 p.m. Sunday at 10 a.m., we will start a new sermon series, “Over-coming Obstacles by the Power of God’s Spirit.” Why not invite a friend to begin this journey together?

In the Book of Acts, the early Christians gather together, go out together and grow together. They enjoy fellowship, healing and growth as a community. God works in the midst of their everyday faith and life. God does the same today at Eastminster! The pages of this Newsletter contains numerous ways

the visitation and care of others, to building a Habitat for Humanity home, to enjoying fellowship together while learning about the Holy Land, to encouraging our children and youth. As we gather together, we go out stronger!

Notably, we are also entering a phase in which Eastminster will be discerning God’s direction for our ministry in the coming years. Our leadership board, the Session, has commissioned a Strategic Planning Team to engage the congregation in planning ten years ahead. This is a bold endeavor and will involve the prayer and support of the entire congregation. The Strategic Planning Team will be chaired by Elder Jack Rowley. Members include Grant Dearborn, Kelly Dunn, Bill McCaslin, Melinda Miller, Suzan Reed, and Julio Vallette. Walt Fredrickson, who has chaired previous EPC planning teams, is serving as a consultant to the team. They will keep the congregation apprised and involve the congregation in the process. There is a Spiritual Formation Team that will organize prayer support. You may learn more about it from Julie Rogers-Martin.

Again, my hope is that we are all strengthened and inspired to keep growing in the Christian life in the days to come!

Have you ever played Bunco? Do you wish to learn? Are you an experienced player? We are having a “Bunco Party” on Friday, April 22nd at 1:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. HAWAIIAN WORSHIP SERVICES—For the month of April, the Hawaiian service will be held on April 15 at 6:30 p.m. followed by a pot luck supper. All are invited to attend.

INDIALANTIC CHAMBER SINGERS—April 17—3:00 p.m. - Sanctuary - “Music from the Silver Screen”. The program will feature a variety of works ranging from Mozart’s Requiem to Mancini’s Moon River and even some audience sing-a-longs. Music will be complimented with narration and a multimedia presentation of famous movie moments. QUARTET MOVEMENT—Friday, April 29th—7:00 p.m. Will present its Spring program featuring Brevard County’s top student string players. DAILY BREAD— It was a beautiful day in March when Eastminster’s Second Tuesday team served 246 meals to the hungry in our community. Two little ones under 2 years old were fed this month as well as several young children. Thanks to Bonnie Griffith, Jan Glenn, Joelle and Joe Cooper (wonderful every Tuesday helpers), Chris and Harvey Ollis, Garth Murray, Kendra Ro and her Dad, Ken Moore, as well as our team leader, Barbara Allen. Smiles of appreciation abounded. Spring is coming and our winter helpers will be going back north. If you would like to be a part of this very rewarding experience, please contact Barbara Allen at 777-7052. DORCAS Committee —would like to express their appreciation to those who provided food, helped to set up and/or clean up for the Bemiss memorial service. FACILITIES Committee —would like to thank all those who helped move furniture from the Nursery to make way for the new flooring. Also to those who labored putting mulch down around the campus. A big thank you, too, to Walt Fredrickson who disassembled, painted, and reassembled the bench on the right side of the Sanctuary. It looks great.

WORSHIP & MUSIC Committee— wanted to express their profound gratitude to all the choirs for making Holy Week and Easter so meaningful for both the congregation and for Kyle personally. The great hymn writer Fred Pratt Green penned this text in one of Kyle’s favorite hymns: “When in our music God is glorified and adoration leaves no room for pride, It is

as though the whole creation cried: ALLELUIA!”

God was truly glorified on Good Friday and on Easter Sunday. We are blessed to have such a vibrant music ministry at Eastminster. We know without any doubt that this is a direct result of your continued dedication, perseverance and generous spirit. God is doing amazing things for us and we look forward to creating more joyful and poignant worship together in the coming years. With that being said, “Let every instrument be tuned for praise! Let all rejoice who have a voice (bell)

The ushers are the first person(s) a visitor or a member meets upon entering the Church on Sunday mornings. A visitor’s first impression of the church is normally received at the entrance door. Once every three months, a different team ushers. Their duties consist of handing out bulletins, ensuring candles are lit and the correct paraments are on the podium and collecting the offering. In addition, there are times when they need to help locate available seats and assist those may who have special needs. The current teams are as follows:

This is a great way to get to know members as well as guests/visitors. It does not require much time, however, it is without a doubt one of the most important ministry we have. Even if you don’t want to commit to being on a scheduled team, you can always sign up as an substitute to be called upon for special events or when needed.

So if you would like to assist in ushering, please contact Ministry Captain, Steve Adams at 720-5749.

On March 20, 2016, Eastminster was blessed to receive the following new members. Please extend a hand of welcome when you see them.

JOAN & ERNEST SMITH

Joan was born in Macon, GA—moved to Merritt Island with family in 1956. She graduated from Tift College in Forsyth, GA and retired from Eastern Florida State College (formerly BCC) as Dean of Financial Aid and Veterans Affairs. Joan enjoys gardening and painting (water colors and pastels). Ernest was born and raised in Mobile, AL. He received a B.A. degree from Samford University and an M.A. degree from University of Alabama. Ernest retired from the Florida Department of Education (Student Financial Assistance). He also likes gardening and painting (all medias). Ernest and Joan have a daughter, Catherine, son-in-law, Jarrod, and a grandson, Laird who reside in Tallahassee. The Smiths came to us from Trinity Wellspring in Satellite Beach and they reside in Indialantic.

MARY ANN LANDIS Mary Ann was born and raised in Lancaster, PA. She graduated from West Chester University majoring in Music. She is a retired music teacher—worked in schools in various locations—Pennsylvania, Ohio, South Carolina, and Maryland. She was a Nationwide insurance agent for many years. Mary Ann is the wife of the late Aaron who passed away in October 2015. They have four children, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Mary Ann enjoys knitting. She resides in Melbourne Beach.

Session opened with prayer by moderator, Rev Dr. Tim Rogers-Martin. Financials: Feb 2016 showed a net loss of $14,901. Large portion of loss was in the way that the EPC

insurance is being paid this year. Net for year 2016 (Jan-Feb) is gain of $3,605. Attendance: Average attendance in the month of January was 273, which is 4.8% below last year.

Committee Highlights Personnel: MOTION1 approved proposed EPC Policy for the new Music Oversight Committee. MOTION2

approves development of a Statement of Need and Job Description for a Designated Associate Pastor. MOTION3 approved the new Personnel Policy for “Non-Exempt Employee Work Standards”.

Finance: MOTION1 approved permanently moving the Finance Committee meeting to second Tuesday of each month. MOTION2 approves development of an Audit Subcommittee that will audit EPC finances as well as its policies and procedures. MOTION3 approved the forming of an EPC Investment Banking Subcommittee.

Facilities: Workday scheduled this Saturday, March 19, to spread mulch, general maintenance and set up fence for Petting Zoo for Sunday services. Looking for volunteers to help.

Worship & Music: MOTION1 approved the reinstatement of the Memorial Subcommittee to handle donation cards to the family and Memorial Garden maintenance. Memorial donations will go 60% to the subcommittee and 40% to general fund. MOTION2 approves that the Music Dept. be allowed to hold a rummage sale in late Oct, early Nov, with 75% of revenues going to Concert Series and 25% to General Fund. Detailed plan with schedule/organization/ milestones and responsible personnel to be completed and submitted to Worship Committee by May 2 Committee Meeting.

Missions: MOTION approved to expand the backpack program by hosting a “Back to School” event on our EPC Campus on July 30. Up to 100 underprivileged elementary school children will be provided backpacks and school supplies as well as services like haircuts, lunch, snacks, entertainment and photographs. Will involve multiple EPC committees in collaboration with the Greek American Association of Brevard.

Children/Youth: Eggstravaganza scheduled for Sat, March 26 needs volunteer help for preparations. VBS curriculum chosen as “Surf Shack” by Cokesbury.

Congregational Care: MOTION1 approved for Yoga Health and Wellness seminar to be held on 23 April to include guest speakers. MOTION2 approved to use donation money from Yoga Seminar to pay for healthy snacks to be provided. MOTION3 approved to use donation money from the Soup Cook-Off Pot Luck for the Youth Mission Trip to Montreat.

Nominating: Continuing good discussions on potential new Elder nominations. Meeting this week on 17th. Outreach: Continuing work on contacting visitors. 95 people in Sanctuary for Big Bang Theory event last

Friday. Many were not members. Working to improve exterior signage.

Pastor/Moderators Report: MOTION1 approved to hold Congregational Meeting on 22 May for purpose of electing new Elders. MOTION2 approved for Pastor Tim to perform wedding ceremony of Rachel Grider and Andrew Sudoti in Lake Mary, FL. Rachel is a child of EPC. Recent trip to the Holy Land in Israel was amazing. Youth Group leaves for Washington DC on Monday.

Old Business Reviewed Master Schedule for upcoming events. Report from Elders attending Florida Central Presbytery Meeting in Ormond Beach on March 5.

New Business MOTION approved to establish a Committee for the promotion and understanding of Congregational

Giving through Wills and Trusts. To report to Finance Committee. Members to be on Strategic Planning Team have been selected and will hold kickoff in near future to

set agenda and begin schedule planning. Next Session meeting will be on April 19. Meeting adjourned with a circle for closing prayer led by Pastor Tim.
