Goals:ThegoalsoftheTrusteesaretoexercisefullauthorityovertheassetsofthecorporationandtoconductmeetingsaccordingtothelawsoftheStateofKansas,theBylawsofEastminsterPresbyterianChurch,andtheArticlesofIncorporationasamendedandrestatedonMay18,1981,andNovember9,2011,themeaningandintentofwhicharefullyreaffirmedbytheBylaws.

Major Actions Taken:• ReceivedandapprovedtheindependentauditreportfromKirkpatrickSprecker&Company,LLP

CertifiedPublicAccountantsforthefiscalyearendingJune30,2012,whichstatedinpart“Inouropinionthefinancialstatementsreferredtoabovepresentfairlyinallmaterialrespects,theassets,liabilitiesandfundbalancesofEastminsterPresbyterianChurchasofJune30,2012.”TheboardlaterreportedtheauditfindingstoSession.

Operation of the CouncilTheWorshipCouncilmeetsmonthlytypicallythefirstweekofthemonth.TheSeniorPastorSupportTeammeetsweeklyonTuesdaymornings.Thethreeotherteamsmeetasneededtocarryouttheirroles.WestrivethatallofourworshipcomponentsareforthepurposeofgivingglorytoGod.Wethankallthosewhousetheirgiftsandtalentstosupportourworshipthroughtheirmusic,ushering,collectingoffering,andservingcommunion.

Student Ministries:Approximately90studentsareinattendanceforSundayschoolweekly.OnehundredandtenstudentsareservedduringSundaynightsandWednesdaynights.Retreatsthissummerwereattendedby173studentsinMiddleSchoolandHighSchool.Around32volunteershelpinMiddleSchoolandHighSchoolMinistries.

Children’s Ministries:Approximately170childrenarereachedeverySunday.Therearemorethan100volunteersandonesummerinternservingthosechildren.FamilyFesthosted35familiesin2012.TrunkorTreatwasasuccessfulchurch-wideoutreach.FaithJourneyEventswereimplementedintheSundayschoolroomsalongwithlaunchingFaithMaps.OurFaithMapismeanttobeaguideto“faithmilestones”wewanttopartnerinwithyou.

Early Childhood Education:Preschoolhadanenrollmentof95childrenwithseventeachers.SeveralofthosefamiliesattendedourNewMemberclassesandbecameapartofEastminster.TheKid’sDayOutProgramserved76children.SummerKid’sDayOutaccountedfor118children.AKindergartenclasswasaddedthisyear.

Summary by Steve Friesen:InJanuary,IwasinvitedtomeetattheCrowhousefortheintroductorymeetingoftheDiscipleshipCouncil.Thankyoutoallwhoparticipated.Thatwasagoodmeeting,butanoverwhelmingoneconsideringthatitwasmyfirstintroductiontomanyofthepeoplethere.ItwasalsomyintroductiontotheCouncilstructureasitwasformanyothers.Thatbeganawhirlwindofactivity.ElderDougCrowbeganthedifficultprocessofbringingmeuptospeedontheactivitiesoftheDiscipleshipCouncil,

thehistoryoftheCouncil,andtheprocessthatlayahead.LittledidIknowthathiseffortswereverynecessaryconsideringthetransitionofleadershipfromDougtomyself.

TheCouncilhasbeensuccessfulinmanyways:• WritingoftheDirectorofDiscipleshipjobdescriptioninconjunctionwiththePersonnelTeamand

KimCase.• InterviewprocessculminatingwiththehiringofBenMarquezasapprovedbySessioninJune.He

beganhisministry/employmentatEastminsteronAugust1,2013.• CompletedsomechangestothefallEDGEplanninginconjunctionwithCongregationalLifeCouncil.• AreintheinterviewprocesswithanewcandidateformiddleSchoolMinistriesleadership.• WorkingtowardamoreintentionalapproachtoadultSundayschool.• WorkingtowardlongrangeplanningforallDiscipleshipministries.

Incompletehonesty,DiscipleshipCouncilhasbeguntofindourwayinthatwearebeginningtounderstandourpurpose.Wearebeginningtoworktowardamuchgreaterlevelofintentionalityintheplanningofministriesthatfallunderourguidance.WearelookingforwardtotheleadershipandinsightthatwillcomefromBenMarquezinthemonthsandyearstocome.Wewanttoputourcollectiveshoulderstothewheel.Welookforwardtothefollowingwithgreatanticipation:

• DevelopmentofmoreintentionaladultministriesatEastminster.• ContinuedgrowthandstrengtheningoftheChildren’s,MiddleSchool,andHighSchoolMinistries.• Findingwaystoinvolveandministertosinglesinthe18-30agegroup.• StreamliningwhathasbeenaprogrammaticapproachtoministryatEastminsterintoonethatismore

orientedtoourprimarymissionandmoreadeptatselectingwhatisbestoverwhatissimplygood.• Developingagreaterparticipationinministryonthepartofthemajoritythecongregation,inthe

fortheirmembersasneeded.• BibleStudies:fiveotherstudiestookplaceinthefallandspring,withtwostudiesinthesummer.• ThebookclubmetonthefirstTuesdayofeachmonth.• CookingFellowshipcookedmealsandputtheminthefreezerforthoseinneed–distributedbythe

Deaconsandotherswhenaneedwasknown.• TheWomen’sChristmaseventwashostedbyHannahCircle.GraciaBurnhamwastheguest

speakerinthesanctuary.• TheWomen’sConference,“FromBrokennesstoBeauty,”washeldatthechurch

February8-9,2013.Itwasattendedby171womenandthespeakerwasJeanneDamoff.

Marriage Ministries:• ProgressiveDinnerinSeptember2012with40couples–arepeatofthiseventisplannedfor

September8,2013.• MarriageRetreat:March2013inKansasCitywith53couples.DonandReneeWorcesterwerethe

keynotespeakerswhoencouragedattendeeswithabiblicalmodelofmarriage.• MarriageReunionCincoDeMayopartywasheldatthehomeofDeanandKarenJargoonMay5,2013.

OurprayeristhattheCongregationalLifeCouncilglorifiedGodthroughtheevents,serviceandministriesthispastyear.OurprayeristhatwebecamebetterexamplesofJesustoothersandencouragedotherstodothesame.Ourprayeristhatlivesweretransformedandthatweprovidedopportunitiesforourcongregationtobondandgrowinlove.Wewouldlovetohaveyoujoinoneofourteamsintheupcomingyear.

TheLocalandU.S.MissionsCouncilwasestablishedin2013toencourage,recruit,equipandempowermembersofEastminstertoactivelyengageinHolySpirit-ledLocalandUSbasedmissionopportunities.WearecontinuingtherichheritageofcomingalongsidetrustedmissionpartnerstofulfillChrist’scalltomakedisciplesofallnationsinMatthew28andtofollowJohn’sadmonitiontonotlovewithwordsortonguebutwithactionsandintruth.Alongwithourtrustedmissionpartners,weareseekingwaysforthebodyofChristatEastminstertobeactivelyinvolvedinimpactingourcity,ourstateandourcountryforJesusChrist.

Thirty-oneLocalandU.S.Missionspartnersandmorethan$260,000offundingarerepresentedbyfourofourteams.AlongwiththeWorldMissionsCouncil,ourJointMissionsExecTeamprovidedanother$142,500tocareforurgentmissionarycareneeds,tofundnumerousshorttermmissiontrips,worldhungerissuesanddisasterreliefefforts.

Highlights from our teams:

Relief TeamTheReliefTeamoftheLocalandUSMissionsCouncilwascreatedtoprovidehands–onassistanceinthenameofJesusChristtopoor,sick,agedanddisadvantagedpeoplewithphysicalassistanceneeds.WewantpeopletoexperienceChrist’slovethroughourservice.ThisteamhelpedleadtwotripstoMoore,Okla.totaling40Eastminstervolunteers.Anewinitiativehasbeenstartedtobuildalistofpeople

whoarereadytojumpinandhelpwhenneedsinthecommunityareidentified.Wealreadyhavealistof55Eastminstervolunteersreadytobecalledonasneeded.IfyouwanttobeinvolvedintheReliefTeam,contactMikeMiddleton([email protected]).

Urban OutreachTheUrbanOutreachteamiscommittedtoinvestingtime,talentandfinancialresourcesintotheheartofWichitaandotherUrbanareas,whilesharingthegospelofJesusChrist.ThisteamdidagreatjobofleadingourallchurchNumanafoodpackagingevent.Twenty-thousandmealswerepackagedonaSundaymorningbyourchurchmembers.WecontinuedtoworkwithLOVEWichitaandhadabout200volunteersfromEastminstercomplete10serviceprojects.ThisteamalsohostedaFoodHandlerscertificationclassatEastminster.FoodHandlerscardsarerequiredtovolunteeratlocalmealservingopportunitiessuchasUnionRescueMissionandTheLord’sDiner.Eastminstermembersareactivelyservingonmonthlyteamsatbothlocations.IfyouareinterestedintheUrbanOutreachTeam,contactSteveMacCorkle([email protected]).

Train, Equip, SendTheTrain,Equip,SendteamhasbeenformedtoprovideopportunitiesforthebodyofChristatEastminsterandbeyondtobetrainedandequippedtosharethegospelofJesusandmakedisciples.Italsocaresforourmissionpartnersthatareheavilyengagedintrainingotherstodothesame.OurTrain,Equip,SendTeamhasbeenrespondingtoConnectCardrequestsofpeoplewantingtobecomeChristians.Theyhavebeenresearchinganddevelopingtoolswecanmakeavailableonthewebsiteorinhandoutsthatmakethegospelmoreaccessibletoourmembersandinquirers.Theteamalsoreviewedanumberoftrainingcurriculums.IfyouareinterestedintheTrain,Equip,SendTeam,contactCharitySchaulis([email protected]).

ThispastyearhasbeenatimeoftransitionforthemissionsministryatEastminsterPresbyterianChurch.Aswebegantheyear,wewerethemissionsteeringcommitteewiththeresponsibilityforlocal,U.S.andworldmissionsunderthecapableleadershipofScottMacLeodascommitteechairpersonandTheReverendKermitOppriechtasourstaffsupport.

WeendtheyearhavingreorganizedintotwoCouncils.ThesearetheLocalandU.S.MissionsCouncilandtheWorldMissionsCouncil.Wearenowpartofanewdenomination,aneworganizationalstructureandhavenewopportunitiesforgrowthinministrywhilemaintainingourcommitmenttotheprinciplesandpartnerswhomwehavesupportedinthepast.Weareblessedwithfaithfulvolunteerswhoserve,someseasonedandsomenew.Allarewelcome.

Wearecommittedtosupportingthosewhosharethegospelaroundtheworld.Ourpassionistopartnerwiththosewhoserve,toprayforthem,toprovidefunds,andtoknowthempersonallysothatwemayshareintheirneedsaswellasrejoiceintheirministry.

• Short-termmissionstripshavebeensupportedtomanyplaces.TeamshavegonetoNicaragua,DominicanRepublic,andEgyptwithindividualstravelingtoSouthAfrica,London,JamaicaandEcuadortoserveonshort-termassignments.Whenrequested,scholarshipshaveoftenbeenprovidedtoassistthosegoingonthesetrips.

• Contingencyplanningformissionarycare,disasterrelief,worldhungerandfundssetasidetoallowrapidresponseforurgentneedsornewopportunitiesthroughouttheyear.Thisyearwehavebeenabletoassistourpartnerswithcomputers,vehiclerepairsorreplacements,andrefugeereliefinSyriaasexamples.

Special Events:Dr.KenBaileywiththeCenterforMiddleEasternStudiesinCairowasourguestspeakerforPentecostSunday.HealsopresentedSaturdayseminarsforadditionalexposuretohisexpertiseonculturalinterpretationofScripture.

Special OfferingsThepeopleofEastminstergenerouslycontributedtospecialofferingsduringtheyear:ChristmasEveofferingforWorldImpact’sMorningStarRanch,andHolyWeekofferingforministriesinNicaraguaandMoldovathatseektoservethosenegativelyimpactedbyhumantrafficking.

Missions Second Sunday Events:SecondSundayshavebeenusedtoemphasizeavisitingsupportedmissionarypartner.Thoseindividualswereintroducedduringworshipservices,visitedchildren’sSundayschoolclassesandsharedthestoryoftheirministryataluncheoninFellowshipHall.Thislastyearthoseincluded:ShellyRichardswithBiblica,JohnandJoyHaspelswithAfricaInlandMissions,DavidBridgmanwithPresbyterianFrontierFellowshipinChina,AlEwertwithWorldImpact,MarkandShabnamPennerfromCentralAsia,DonMcCurrywithMinistrytoMuslims,LaurenLibbyTransWorldRadiopresident,PhilipandElizabethPrasadwithWitnessingMinistriesofChristinIndiaandGregandChrisCallisonwhoworkwithrefugees.

Summary:Whilethisisnotacompletelist,itrepresentstheareasinwhichwehavebeenprivilegedtoserve.ThepeopleofEastminsterhavecontinuedtobefaithfulandgenerouswiththeirprayers,theirtimeandtheirresources.Itisablessingtoassistinthedistributionofthese,God’sprovisionsforhiswork.

Summary:Inhumblesubmission,theFirstImpressionsTeamhasgrownto120ushers/greeters/welcomedeskattendantswhofaithfullyserveduringworshipservices.VisitorreflectionsindicateEastminsteriswelcomingvisitorsandassistingintheirengagementwhileontheEastminstercampus.Followupwitheachfirstandsecond-timeguestoccursweekly.Additionally,ConnectCardshavereplacedpewpads,andthisnewprocessisprovingtobeaneffectivecommunicationtool.NotonlyareConnectCardsusedtotrackattendanceandgaincontactinformationforvisitors,theyalsoprovideanopportunityforeventandvolunteersign-up,arequestforinformationonbecomingaChristian,andanopportunitytosubmitprayerrequests.

Inordertoprovideagospel-honoringwelcomeandopportunitytogrowspiritually,theCouncilteamshavecollaboratedwiththeDiscipleshipCounciltodevelopandteachaseriesofclasseswhichprovidegrowthopportunitiesforprospectiveandcurrentEastminstermembers.Asummaryofthesenewclassesfollows:
