Story

The concept for my Teaser Trailer will be based on the novel I am currently writing about a young girl who’s best friend gets kidnapped and she learns she has a powerful prophecy… but with a twist.

Scenes

Do to lack of technology (CGI) I will really only be able to show the main character. So I thought, I’ll go down the Pixar route, and film scenes which actually aren’t in the book. In my head at the moment, I’m just thinking of filming a young girl walking around and then cutting to black and having voice-overs of the characters read out her destiny.

Dialogue

• The dialogue is easy. Since the audience is in the know before the main character, I’ll just have them read out her destiny which goes:

• “An Earthling girl with the name of the rising sun [Dawn], shall rise to the skies on wings of gold and defeat the darkness. But in sacrifice, will become the most powerful Dark Lord ever to rule the lands and a new age of blood and darkness with reign…

• Then near the end of the clip I’ll have her scream her best friend name which will be dragged over a really fast past cut scenes with each of the characters screaming another’s name, similar to the 9 countdown trailer.

Music

• Because this trailer is quite slow, I want something fitting. During the good half of the prophecy, I’m considering something light and calming. Not happy, cause I don’t want to give the impression this is a comedy or something. Then the music will change to something dark and ominous that will hopefully build into climax for the really quick cut scenes. Fluidity is the key.

Costumes

• The costumes are really easy this time round. The main character is a normal human being and to make things even simpler, she’ll either be in a school uniform or normal clothing (since it’s a modern fantasy).

• The only real costume at the end is my sister playing the villain sitting in a dark room. She’ll be dressed in all black.

Tricks

• As I stated before, I have no CGI to perform some of the more complicated stuff. However, I have thought of some tricks such as I want represent the title a bit [Sky Angels] so I want to have one of the “angels” flying over her. To do this, on a sunny day I’ll cut out a piece of card board into the shape of a human with wings then take two fishing poles and suspend the cardboard over her to simulate a shadow.

Clip

• This is from a video game and I’m thinking of taking the short scene when he sprouts his wing to give another hint that there are wings in this movie. Woo! This one will be on the fast clips so it shouldn’t be noticeable I didn’t film it (shouldn’t do).

Titles

• Being a bit on the cheeky side, as one of the titles, in accordance to other books to movies trailer, I’ll say, “From the best selling novel…”

• And then state my name as the director, “Tina Banko, director of Moonblade” (my Year 12 film).

• The first half of the trailer will be white on black cut out but then as it changes, red on black.

Conventions of a Teaser Trailer

• What will make this a Teaser Trailer?

• Well, for starters, it’ll be really short. As I stated before, really only one character will be shown clearly and the plot’s not given away. The plot is much deeper than what I’ve revealed through the Prophecy.

Ending

• The trailer will end with the novel’s tagline read out by me cause I’ll be playing the main character’s voice.

• “Everyone has secrets. Some they do not even know about them selves.”

• This will be read over the “Coming 2012”.
