Intel- ligent automation will truly revolutionize these processes and allow data to be input automatically and in the correct format into various IT, accounting and analysis systems. With this in mind, SPS will use intelligent automation within document solutions in the future that will gradually take on new tasks and operate with extreme precision. Smart shuttles – shaping the mobility of the future

PostBus is the market leader in public bus transport in Switzerland and is becoming a fully integrated provider of sustainable and combined mobility. PostBus is testing state-of-the-art technologies on behalf of Swiss Post to find new mobility solutions for public transport and at the interface with private transport options. PostBus wants to find out whether and how self-driving vehicles can provide new types of mobility in the regions.

The first test-runs of self-driving vehicles have taken place in Switzerland. In an initial phase, specialists tested the two vehicles on private land. If the relevant authorities approve the pilot project, the autonomous shuttles will operate in pub-lic areas from spring 2016. Passenger routes are planned in the pedestrian zone and shared space in the center of Sion, the capital of Valais, and to the Valère and Tourbillon castles.

Campus – Swiss Post boosts ICT training

As one of Switzerland’s biggest employ-ers, Swiss Post needs good internal spe-cialists, especially in the field of ICT. In the summer of 2015, to counteract the im-pending shortage of skilled workers, Swiss Post opened its ICT Campus in Berne to strengthen IT training. IT appren-tices complete one year of basic training there before continuing their training in various IT units at Swiss Post and Post-Finance.

Together with the Swiss Distance Univer-sity of Applied Sciences (FFHS), Swiss Post has offered the new Bachelor’s degree with integrated practical training (PiBS) since 2015. This form of study enables students to acquire a degree from a uni-versity of applied sciences while directly entering the world of work. The training lasts four years and, along with one year of basic training in IT, also includes stages of study geared towards the various (IT) units at Swiss Post and PostFinance.

66 ICT training placements for 2016 For the apprentices starting in summer 2016, 66 young people can choose train-ing placements in ICT.

Modern technology – using drones in logistics

In summer 2015, Swiss Post tested the practical use of drones in logistics. The possible areas of application offered by drone technology are very diverse, rang-ing from delivery in peripheral regions to the express delivery of goods. Swiss Post used these tests to gain initial experience with drone technology and to examine the cost-effectiveness of these business ideas, such as the possibility of last mile parcel delivery. With the tests, Swiss Post is positioning itself at the very forefront of this pioneering technology for logistics.

Until the time of their realistic commercial use, there are various requirements which need to be clarified. These include the legal framework and technical limitations such as limited battery life.
