    EVENT INFORMATION

Please read carefully and complete the permission note accordingly.

The Dept of Education now requires that children who are weak or non-swimmers be clearly identified.Children who are identified as such will be required to wear a distinctive wrist band and have event entryrestrictions placed upon them. If you are unsure as to how to identify your childs swimming ability please use

the criteria below as a guide.NON-SWIMMER any child who cannot swim at least 6 metres (a large car length)

WEAK SWIMMER any child who cannot swim approx 15 metres (across Helensburgh Pool)POOR SWIMMER any child who struggles to swim 25 metresCAPABLE SWIMMER any child who can swim 50 metres

Zone Qualifying Please note that all zone events are at least 50 m so only capable swimmers are able tocompete in these events at the school carnival.

Children are not required to dive in at the start a race and may stop during the race to regain their breath or

energy. Students are only permitted to swim in one freestyle AGE event, i.e. 25 m, 50 m or wade. See programfor information about events to be held.

Finals may be swum in 50 m freestyle events if time allows. In all other events, the winner is determined bythe fastest time swum in heats.

All Age 100 m Students who swim 50 m are permitted to swim in the ALL AGE 100 m at well. Students must

indicate their intention to enter on their permission note. In order to begin the carnival on time, the ALL AGE100 m will be the first event and students will swim in heats according to their entry time.

Please note: Butterfly is a complicated and demanding event, especially over 50 m. Therefore, only students

who are aware of the stroke requirements and have been taught to do the stroke correctly should compete inthis event.

200 m Medley while we encourage students to enter the 200 m Medley, it is again a very strenuous event andshould only be entered by students who can comfortably and competently swim 50 m in all four strokes.Students not swimming in the breaststroke or butterfly events will not be permitted to enter the medleyunless they have spoken to the Carnival Convener beforehand.

Please ensure your child understands whether they should enter competitive breaststroke, butterfly, 100 mand medley events. Disqualification is upsetting to students, parents and teachers. Note students will only benotified of disqualifications if they are likely to be place getters or zone representatives.
