As the year of 2013 slowly closes I would like to thank families, but especially students for such a warm supportive welcome to Yass Public. I joined the team in term 2. Mrs Lawrence did a fantastic job in term 1 and it was a tough act to follow. I have enjoyed every moment of my time at Yass Public and I feel privileged to be part of a great school and such a supportive community. I hope that all parents feel comfortable in contacting me to discuss their child or the future of our school at any time. I really enjoy teaching and often take classes at Yass Public. I feel it is a terrific way to get to know your children as well as have a firm understanding of what is happening in our Yass Public School Classrooms. I hope you understand that I may not be able to be there to answer your call but I will ring you back if I am on class. I am looking forward to all the traditional events of Yass Public School in the next 2 weeks. I hope to meet even more parents and celebrate the success of all the schools at Yass Public. Please help with the return of Parent Surveys by the end of the school year as we value your input and hope to incorporate your suggestions into our school. Reports.

Teachers are frantically writing, and checking student reports. Parents will be given Student reports on Monday 16th December. If parents would like to discuss their child’s report please contact the front office.

Mrs Waterhouse.

Mrs Waterhouse has taken sick leave for the rest of the year. We are all hoping she will have time to rest and recoperate, enjoy some down time and be back firing on all cyclinders in 2014. Mr Cox and Mrs Webeck will be teaching 4/5W for the rest of this year.

LEAVING AND ARRIVING.

If any families are planning to leave Yass Public or they know of families arriving to Yass Public could they please let the front office know as we are trying to organise class sizes for next year and it will be very helpful in getting our numbers right for 2014.

Classes for 2014.

Teachers are working on class lists for 2014. At the moment we are working on a 9 class model as we are very close to our 10th class. Students and their families will be advised of their new classes and teachers in 2014.

Intensive Swimming.

Students in Years 2 to 6 have completed nearly 2 weeks of intensive swimming lessons. Teachers have commented how many students have made great gains in their distance and skill. It is a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of free swimming lessons at school. Hopefully students will continue to swim and improve upon their new skills.

Swimming Carnival in 2014. FRIDAY 31ST JANUARY.

Mrs Hickey has organised the Swimming Carnival for the first Friday of school in 2014. Notes have gone home this week to give parents information as well as permission notes. Hopefully students will be able to do some training through the school holidays.

Please return notes ASAP so we can be organised for the first week back.

School Spectacular

Mrs Hickey and Mrs Fahey had a fantastic day with many students from Yass Public years 3-6 when they travelled to Sydney to watch the School Spectacular at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. The children were impressive with their manners and sensible behaviour. The beat boxing was a hit with all the younger crowd but Mrs Fahey enjoyed the violinist who duelled with the devil in “The Devil came down from Georgia”. It is always a pleasure to take Yass Public children away as they are such good ambassadors for our school and town.

Parent Survey. Attached is a parent survey, each year we ask parents to give us constructive feedback as to how to improve Yass Public School. Mrs Fahey is going to write the Annual School Report in the holidays and is very keen to have some feedback from parents. Next year Yass Public is really targeting the Key Learning area of Maths. Please return Surveys before Wednesday 19th December. Any feedback is welcome.

How many days has your child missed this semester? 0-6 This is within normal range. A child with this attendance rate is able to take

full advantage of the teaching and learning opportunities available to them. 7-10 This attendance rate is below average. A child with this attendance rate

could miss up to 3 terms of schooling between Kindergarten and year 6. 11-20 This is a poor attendance rate. A child with this attendance rate could miss

out on up to 1 ½ years of schooling between kindergarten and year 6. 20+ This is a very poor attendance rate. A child with this attendance rate could

miss over two years of schooling between kindergarten and year 6.

Canteen News:

As a special end of year treat for children, the canteen will be offering the following special treats to celebrate the school year coming to a close: Friday 6th December – Lollie Day Children can purchase the following items at lunch time only (please note a limit on the amount of lollies will be enforced – maximum limit is 1 Sour Gecko & 4 x Red Frogs): Sour Gecko Lollie - $0.80 4 x Red Frogs - $0.20 Friday 13th December – Meal Deal The following meal deal will be available to purchase as per normal lunch order method:

The Harden- Murrumburrah camera club invites your entries for our Photographic Competition/Exhibition Old Courthouse Murrumburrah. Exhibition from Saturday 8th March- Sunday 9th March, 2014

9am to 3.30pm daily. Competition closes 15th February, 2014. Information can be obtained from the school office.
