A Sussex resident expressed con-cern about the speed of bicyclistsusing the Bug Line Trail during thecitizen comment portion of the July28 Sussex Village Board meeting.
Susan Langer said she walksalong a portion of the trail near thevillage's downtown during the day.
"On multiple occasions eachday I am passed by high-speedingbicyclists," Langer said.
She indicated the problem is notwith recreational bicyclists or resi-
dents who are using the trail, butavid bicyclists who are "zooming"through the trail. She said when thecounty trail was first paved, shewould see residents with strollersand seniors from the Sussex Millsfacility using the trail. She does notsee as many of them any more inpart because of the speeds fromavid bicyclists who use the trail.
"I don't feel safe. I feel very vul-nerable within the village of Sussexwalking on the Bug Line Trail,"Langer said.
She added that there are por-tions of the trail which have curveswhile other portions are surroundedby woods, which makes it difficult to
see oncoming bicyclists.
She said she hasbeen in touch with twoWaukesha County repre-sentatives and signs havebeen posted along thetrail.
Langer said her con-cern is the impact of higher speed bicyclistson residents who walkalong the trail.
Langer asked the vil-lage "to take an interest
in the Bug Line Trail. Irealize it is a county gov-ernment thing. However, within the village of Sussex there's so muchpedestrian traffic througha residential and a busi-ness area."
She asked villageofficials to contact coun-ty officials and increasestop signs along the trail. She said that compliancewith stop signs can bemonitored by Sheriff'sdeputies from theirsquad vehicles. -By Thomas J. McKillen,

The 7th Annual "Stepping Out to CureScleroderma" walk in Germantown, will beheld on Sunday, Aug. 16.
This annual walk raises money for theScleroderma Foundation, Greater ChicagoChapter, which provides support, educationand research for scleroderma patients.Scleroderma is a chronic, often progressive, autoimmune disease in which the immunesystem attacks its own body. The disease cancause thickening and tightening of the skin.
In some cases it causes serious damage tointernal organs including the heart, lungs, kidneys, esophagus and gastrointestinaltract. These organs may slowly harden untilthey become ineffective. Some treatmentscan help
with certain symptoms, but there is stillno cure for scleroderma. The disease affectsthree to four times as many women as men.
"Some friends and I started this fundrais-er six years ago after a childhood friend hadpassed away from the disease and my bestfriend from high school had been diag-nosed," said Michele Fuchs, Senior AccountExecutive for Entercom Milwaukee andStepping Out to Cure Scleroderma commit-tee member. "We’re very pleased with thecommunity support we’ve received. Lastyear was our best year ever with 400 walk-
ers and we’re hoping to get even more peo-ple to the walk this year!"The walk will take place at Kinderberg
Park, N104W14942 Donges Bay Road,Germantown. Registration will start at 7:30a.m. and the walk will begin at 9:00 a.m.The event will take place rain or shine. Thecost is $20 per walker.
