Vocation Corner: The leap of faith we see from Peter in the
Gospel invites us to look beyond the stormy seas and the blowing
winds keeping us from trusting and following Jesus. A vocation is
often filled with obstacles, but at the same time, our persistence
through difficulties are what makes us true disciples. “Don’t be
afraid” is what we often hear in Scripture. Let us pray for the grace
and courage to find and follow Jesus within the difficulties that
come our way.
Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time – 09 August 2020 1 Kings 19:9a, 11-13a. Psalm 85:9, 10, 11-12, 13-14. Romans 9:1-5. Matthew 14:22-33. Jesus Shows Us God. In his time of trial, Elijah is looking for the Lord to save him. The psalmist pleads for God’s salvation. Paul recounts the covenantal bond between God and all the People of God. And Jesus--Jesus feeds those who hunger. Jesus tries (again!) to go off and pray. But he sees his disciples in peril and walks on troubled water to offer courage and safety.
How will I keep looking for God in this troubled time?
How will I act because God chose me – and us?
How will I take courage and not be afraid trusting in Jesus’ power to save?

SPRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus,
I believe that you are present in the Most Blessed Sacrament,
I love you above all things and I desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now, receive you sacramentally, Come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there, And unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.
Prayer for Safety of All in Agriculture
Blessed Mary, Mother of God, and great Saint Joseph, you protected and kept safe the Divine Child, Jesus. We ask your special intercession and protection of all who work in Agriculture, especially on the farm. Man, having been cast out of the Garden of Eden, must now work by the sweat of his brow to get food to eat as you foretold in Genesis. And he must also battle fatigue, danger, and accidents. Protect all in agriculture against these and all danger and evil, so that when they complete their work each day and each season, they return to your altar and their families whole and entire to love and honor You and the ones you have given them all the days of their lives. We ask through the holy name of Jesus. Amen. Liturgy for the Week…

Hello,
Congratulations to our 1st Communicants as they receive the Eucharist this Sunday for the first time. I thank them and their families for their patience/cooperation in lining this up this afternoon. Only the immediate family is welcome (because of Covid-19 regulations). Sorry!
Congratulations to Matt Loepker and Sarah Schomaker as they married one another on August 6th. May they be a powerful sign of God’s love in their marriage!
We extend our sympathy to families of Brian Beckmann and Dalton Newkirk (Jennifer Mioux’s fiancée’). Also remember John Peppenhorst as we gather for his funeral liturgy @ St. Mary Saturday morning, August 8th @ 10am
To view the “on line” Mass @ St. Mary, Carlyle, which will be “live streamed” Saturday, August 8th and August 15th @ 4pm, simply go to the parish web site and look under helpful links. 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Just about every new experience in life can be terrifying. But the Jesus who calms the storm in today’s Gospel is present to us, especially in the reassurance we get from those who love us. In the embrace of our beloved, in the helping hand of a friend, in the counsel of a wise teacher or parent or coach, Jesus reaches out to save us in the darkest times, AND in the smallest acts of compassion and forgiveness that we give and receive, God’s presence is revealed in our midst. – Jay Cormier
Let’s throw out the “life line” to others when needed. Peace & good, Fr. George
