Year of Sacraments • One Word at a Time
The Eucharist, we firmly believe, makes present to us the Bodyand Blood of the Lord in his selfsacrificing love. And by receivinghim in Holy Communion, weconnect ourselves with him.In fact, this is the sustainingand lifegiving connection ofour lives. The Eucharist enablesus to have this personal connection with the Lord. It wouldbe a mistake, however, to thinkthat it stops here.
The Eucharist connects us not only with theLord but with each other in him. That is thegist of Paul’s important words to the churchin Corinth: “Because there is one bread, wewho are many are one body, for we all partakeof the one bread.” (1 Corinthians 10:17) Lookingat our connection with other people throughthe Eucharist radically changes how we seeour relationships, even our closest ones. Wediscover the depth and power of those relationships because we are connected in himwho holds all of us in his love.
