WELCOME

We welcome all our visitors. It is an honor to have you worshipping with us. You may find the worship of the Ancient Church very different. We welcome your questions. Please join us for our Reception held in the Church Hall immediately following the Divine Liturgy.

VARIATIONS IN TODAY’S DIVINE LITURGY USING THE WHITE LITURGICAL BOOKS – TONE 4

The 1st Antiphon:

As usual…

The 2nd Antiphon:

As usual…

The 3rd Antiphon:

Troparion of the Resurrection – Tone 4, p 96

The Entrance:

O come let us worship…

Troparion of the Resurrection – Tone 4, p 96

Having learned the joyful message of the Resurrection from the angel, the women disciples of the Lord cast from them their parental condemnation, and proudly broke the news to the Disciples, saying: Death hath been spoiled. Christ God is risen, granting the world great mercy!

Troparion of St. Phocas – Tone 4

As a sharer of the ways and a successor to the throne of the Apostles, O inspired of God, thou foundest discipline to be a means of ascent to divine vision. Wherefore, having rightly divided the word of truth, thou didst also contest for the Faith even unto blood, O Hieromartyr Phocas. Intercede with Christ our God that our souls be saved.

Troparion of St. Elijah, p 26

Kontakion of the Theotokos – Tone 2

O protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, mediation unto the Creator most constant: O despise not the suppliant voices of those who have sinned, but be thou quick, O good one to come unto our aid, who in faith cry unto thee. Hasten to intercession, and speed thou

to make supplication, thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee.

The Thrice-Holy Hymn

THE READINGS

THE EPISTLE

How magnified are thy works, O Lord! In wisdom hast thou made them all.

Bless the Lord, O my soul!

The reading is from St. Paul’s First Epistle to the Corinthians (16:13-24)

Brethren, be watchful, be established in the faith, be manly, be strong. Let all your things be done in love. Now I beseech you, brethren (since you know the house of Stephanas, that it is the first fruits of Achaia, and that they have set themselves for the ministry of the saints), that you also be subject to such, and to everyone who is a fellow worker and laborer. I rejoice at the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatos and Achaicos, for that which was lacking on your part they supplied. For they refreshed my spirit as well as yours; therefore acknowledge such men.

The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house. All the brethren salute you. Salute one another with a holy kiss. The salutation of me, Paul, is with my own hand. If anyone does not love the Lord, let him be anathema. Maranatha! The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you. My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen.

At that time, Jesus was standing by the lake of Gennesaret. And he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, Jesus asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. And when Jesus had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” And when they had done this, they enclosed a great shoal of fish; and as their nets were breaking, they beckoned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the catch of fish which they had taken; and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; henceforth you will be catching men.” And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.

St. Elijah MDO would like to thank all who toured our school during Coffee Hour on

August 25.

This year we have added new programs to our curriculum. Musikgarten is taught by

Anne, who comes to us from Holy Ascension Orthodox Church in Norman. Our first “Cultural Day” was celebrated

with Anna Harris speaking to the children about her Russian heritage. For the

month of September, our Saints were Joachim and Anna. To honor the Mother

of God on her birthday, the children brought flowers to the chapel. Feast day this month was the Elevation of the Cross.

Grandparents Day will be September 24 and 25.

Most holy Mother of God, today we Orthodox joyfully celebrate thy coming among us. As we

gaze at thy icon we cry with compunction: Shelter us under thy protection, deliver us from

evil, and pray thy Son Christ our God to save our souls.

Sunday School Scoop

We ask that all students move to the back of the church following the Communion Prayer to line up. A couple things to remember:

- Parents do not need to line up with their kids. We are short on space and extra bodies add to the chaos!

- If you didn’t enroll your child last week, please visit their classroom to meet their teacher and enroll them.

- Please join us in being flexible and understanding as we adjust to our new sanctuary for the coming weeks.

- We had a great time bowling! Thanks to everyone who came for an afternoon of fun and fellowship!

The DOWAMA SOYO Basketball Tournament will

be held here at St. Elijah

October 4-6th! Registration forms will be available next week. See Erin and sign up

to spend a wonderful weekend with teens from all

across DOWAMA!

And if you want to play basketball, talk to Erin so

we know how many teams we will have!

Teen Chats this Wednesday! We will

meet from 7 to 8:30 in the Teen Room! Please

note the new ending time!
