From Fr. Daniel
This weekend, September 26-27, there is a special HOPES Collection for Catholic elementary schools that provide students with a moral compass and an education in the faith. Your gift will make a positive impact on those who are the future of the Church. Schools are very much at the heart of any community because of the vital role they play in educating our children not only in the subjects of the curriculum but also in the interpersonal skills the children will need in their adult lives. We are very blessed with the quality of educators who work in our schools and they should never be taken for granted. Our CCD classes will start this Sunday, September 27, for the children in grades K through 7. Classes will be held at Broad Brook School from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. every Sunday. Parents of the children must be registered either at St. Catherine or St. Philip Church. The National Catechetical Directory says: “Parents are the first and foremost catechists of their children. They teach informally, but powerfully by example and instruction. They communicate values and attitudes.” God gives the grace to be good Catholic parents. I believe that effective Religious Education takes place in three places; within the family, within the worshipping community gathered for Sunday Mass and within formal CCD classes. These classes provide some basis for understanding the Church and our relationship with Jesus. Children with a strong faith and a good religious foundation are better able to cope with today’s challenges. We, the CCD staff, look forward to the children returning to the Religious Classes. Father Daniel
You Can Understand the Bible! - If you want a better understanding of our faith, and a deeper relationship with God, then you are invited to join us for The Bible Timeline Study. By being a part of this study, you will not only benefit personally, but you will also help to bring about a profound renewal in our parish as we all grow closer to Christ. The Bible Timeline is a Catholic Bible study which takes you on a journey through the entire Bible and brings you deep into each period of salvation history, so that you can discover the amazing story woven throughout all of Scripture. This is a 24-week study
with videos presented by Jeff Cavins. We will meet every Thursday beginning October 1, 2015 downstairs at St. Catherine Church. Choose either morning class at 8:45 a.m. or evening class at 7:00 p.m. There is a $35.00 fee for The Bible Timeline Study Kit. Scholarships are available. For
more information or to register for the study, contact Marie Pelletier at 860-926-9032 or email [email protected].
PLEASE REMEMBER- The Sacrament, Anointing of the
Sick, now replaces “Last Rites” for the ill or infirmed. As soon as someone’s condition worsens, please call the priest so that he can make arrangements to administer this sacrament, as it is not preferable to wait until the last moment before death.

you’ll be glad you did.
2015 Family Day Meal Prayer
Good and gracious God, We thank you for the many blessings that we share, es-pecially our families. In faith we share our love for you. We share concern for each other, And, we are ever aware of families in need of our prayers and our help. We thank you for the food on this table, for the members our family present, old and new; For memories past and those we make today. May families all around the world experience the joy of praying, loving and being with one another. We offer the love we share this day as a remembrance of how much you love each of us. We offer this prayer in the name of Jesus, together with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
