Welcome to St. Catherine's
Please refrain from
bringing inappropriate items (i.e. chewing gum,

ANOINTING OF THE SICK If you have a serious illness, are facing hospitalization and/or surgery, you should
arrange to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. You may remember “Last Rites” but the correct name is Anointing of the Sick, which is not limited to the dying and which should be celebrated before the sick person is unconscious, comatose or in the last stages of death. The Anointing is offered each weekday morning upon request, during the
7:25 AM Mass. If you or your family members are unable to attend Mass, Father will come to your home. Arrangements must be made by the prior Monday afternoon to allow
time for proper preparation. Please call the Parish Office: 676-4403
THE SACRAMENT OF PENANCE “The Sacrament of Penance”, is celebrated during our monthly Reconciliation Prayer
Service which is at 7:00 pm on the first Wednesday of each month.
It is imperative to be present for the entire service for the participation in the service is your penance.
The next service will be held at 7:00 pm on the 2nd of August
This Sacrament is also offered by appointment. Please contact the Parish Office at 676-4403
SACRIFICIAL GIVING
A normal Sacrificial Giving Program is a 10% contribution to a charitable organization or church. St. Catherine's is asking for 4%.
Or, consider giving, as a minimum each week, your first hour's salary (or wage) in thanksgiving for the opportunities God has given us to work and produce for ourselves, our families and our communities. Another way to respond to God's generosity is to mention St. Catherine's in your will. Please give prayerful thought to supporting St. Catherine's in this way as well.
MARRIAGE PREPARATION PROCESS
Canon Law stipulates that weddings are to take place in the Parish where either the bride, the groom, or their parents reside. In order to begin the Marriage Preparation Process, you must pick up A Guideline and Policy Booklet for Weddings from our Parish Office and read it thoroughly. Please understand that the marriage preparation in the Diocese of San Bernardino takes a minimum of 6 months and that a wedding date may not be set until specified criteria are met.
-
Please Pray for the ill and hospitalized members of our Parish, their families & caregivers.
“Please remember our Elderly and Homebound as well”

The first reading forms part of Moses’ farewell discourse, a call to the people to return to God. It is not a legalistic summons;
rather, it is an appeal to heart and soul. It outlines a command that is not impossible to follow, or too difficult to undertake, or too expensive. Look into your hearts, says Moses; there you will find what to do. Paul sees Jesus Christ as the image of God, the agent of creation and preservation. We sense, in his words, things profound: “dominions or principalities or powers.” But in the midst of that, Paul keeps his attention on Jesus Christ, head of the church. It is in Christ that we find fullness and reconciliation—in the blood of the cross. Luke’s Gospel illustrates the double commandment of love with the story of the Good Samaritan. The story is a radical one, for it comes to focus on the question of who my “neighbor” is. That neighbor is not identified with any group, but rather by the scope of our compassion.
Please Pray for our young Missionaries and their chaperones as they begin their journey to rebuild houses and lives and
participate in a week of service and prayer in desperately poor neighbor-
hoods in Sturgis, South Dakota.

The light of Christ shines, as in a mirror, upon the face of Christians; as it spreads, it comes down to us, so that we too can share in that vision and reflect that light to others, in the same way that, in the Easter liturgy, the light of the paschal candle lights countless other candles. Faith is passed on, we might say, by contact, from one person to another, just as one candle is lighted from another. Christians, in their poverty, plant a seed so rich that it becomes a great tree, capable of filling the world with its fruit. ENCYCLICAL LETTER LUMEN FIDEI

I KNOW MY PRAYERS
As you know our kinder through fifth grade has required prayers to understand and learn. I am asking for help with a small project to help others learn their prayers. I would like a group of children to record the required prayers onto a cd that can be offered to all k-5 families. I need help with the recording, if you have experience, we have the system to record through. I also need someone to coordinate this. It should only take 4 or 5 Sun-day’s during the summer months to complete and I will support you all the way. IF you can help please contact Letha at:

FEAST OF FAITH
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
On a summer day, with the windows open, we may hear the sound of church bells. Bells seem to have come into church life in Irish monasteries around the seventh century, and spread around the Christian world by Irish monks on missionary journeys. By the eighth century, bells were standard equipment in even small parish churches. An ancient cere-mony, once called the “baptism of the bells,” recognizes that the church bell has a voice to call people to awareness and summon them to worship, and even bestows a name on the bell. In a world without clocks or watches, the bell had an indispensable role. For calling monks in from the fields for prayer, or alerting farflung visitors, the bell’s voice was en-hanced by hoisting it high into a tower. Soon it was learned that the sound of several bells clanging together in harmony imparted a sense of joy to great celebrations, and bell towers prospered, some chock full of bells. Different combinations of rings could indicate a death, a Mass, a wedding, a fast day, the curfew at the end of day, and the Angelus. Before electrici-ty, bell-ringing was hard work indeed: the big-gest bell in the Catholic world, in Cologne, Germany, weighs twentyseven tons! There’s no substitute for the resonant roar of a mighty bell; electric chimes are not eligible for bless-ing!
