Welcome to St. Catherine's

In the Spirit of Hospital-ity and the Ministry of Welcome, there are NO seats “Reserved” in this Church (except during our Faith Formation Programs). If someone wishes to enter your pew, please slide over so they do not have to stumble over you. Also, we ask that you consider others’ needs before your own desires. Thank you.

WELCOME

ANOINTING OF THE SICK

If you have a serious illness, are facing hospitalization and/or surgery, you should arrange to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, which should be celebrated before a sick person is unconscious, comatose or in the last stages of life. The Anointing is offered on Friday mornings, upon prior request, during the 7:25 AM Mass. If you or family members are unable to attend Mass,

Father will come to your home. Arrangements must be made beforehand for proper preparation. Please call the Parish Office at

A normal Sacrificial Giving Program is a 10% contribution to a charitable organization or church. St. Catherine's is asking for 4%.

Or, consider giving, as a minimum each week, your first hour's salary (or wage) in thanksgiving for the opportunities God has given us to work and produce for ourselves, our families and our communities. Another way to respond to God's generosity is to mention St. Catherine's in your will. Please give prayerful thought to supporting St. Catherine's in this way as well.

Canon Law stipulates that weddings are to take place in the Parish where either the bride, the groom, or their parents reside. In order to begin the Marriage Preparation Process, you must pick up A Guideline and Policy Booklet for Weddings from our Parish Office and read it thoroughly. Please understand that the marriage preparation in the Diocese of San Bernardino takes a minimum of 6 months and that a wedding date may not be set until specified criteria are met.

In the Creed, Immediately after professing our faith in the Holy Spirit, we say: “I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.” There is a profound connection between these two realities of faith: indeed it is the Holy Spirit who gives life to the Church, who guides her steps. Without the constant presence and action of he Holy Spirit the Church could not live and could not carry out the task that the Risen Jesus entrusted to her: to go and make discoples of all nations (cf.Mt 28:19). Evangelizing is the Church’s mission. It is not the mission of only a few, but it is mine, yours and our mission. The apostle Paul exclaimed: “Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel!” (1 Cor 9:16). We must all be evangelizers, especially with our life!. Paul VI stressed that “Evangelizing is … the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity. She exists in order to evangelize” (Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Nuntiandi no.14) Excerpt from Pope Francis’

FEAST OF FAITH TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time September 7, 2014

“If two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father.” — Matthew 18:19

We know for certain that the sacrament of penance was a fairly rare event in the life of a Chris an in the early centuries, but that everyone had a duty to admit their sins and ask forgiveness before giving thanks in the Sunday Eucharist and receiving Christ’s Body and Blood at the table. Everyone today is familiar with this same ancient pa ern. We also know about Lent and its journey of renewal, and even those who are returning from summer vaca ons may speak of a fresh perspec ve on life and a resolve to do be er. Saint Augus ne spoke of a third kind of penance, beyond the turning of the catechumens to a different life, beyond the normal everyday fresh starts, to a form that is severe and serious. Certain sins broke faith with the community: the sinners were obliged to give their names to the bishop and were barred from par cipa on in the Eucharist. Augus ne men oned sacrilege, adultery, and murder as the culprits, great wounds for the perpetrator, wounds that were serious, deadly, mortal. Penance was such a frightening prospect that many people delayed their bap sm for fear that they would sin, a prac ce with which Augus ne was well acquainted.
