Variant Configuration Example

Dell Computer -- Final Product

RAM 2GB ; 3GB and 4GB

Hard Hardisk: 200 GB, 300 GB and 500 GB (500 GB can only selectable for 4GB Ram)

Processor : AMD, Intel

Colour : Sparkling Black, Blue

Mouse and Keyboard--- Applicable for all Variants

1) Create Class

a. Class Name --- Computer (CL02)

b. Class type : 300

2) Characteristics (CT04)

a. Char1 – Ram

i. 2GB,3GB,4G (Values)

b. Char2 – Hard Disk

i. 200, 320,500 (Values)

c. Char3 – Processor

i. AMD,Intel (Values)

d. Char4 --- Colour

i. Black,Blue (Values)

3) Assign Characteristics to class (CL02)

4) Create Material Masters (MM01)

a. Computer (FERT)

b. Mouse (Common Parts) - ROH

c. Key Board (Common Parts)

d. 2GB RAM (Variants)

e. 3GB Ram

f. 4GB Ram

h. 320 GB Hard disk

i. 500 GB Hard disk

5) Create Super BOM (Computer) -CS01

a. Components

i. Mouse (Common Parts)

ii. Key Board (Common Parts)

iii. 2GB RAM (Variants)

iv. 3GB Ram

v. 4GB Ram

vi. 200 GB Hard disk

vii. 320 GB Hard disk

viii. 500 GB Hard disk

ix. AMD

x. Intel

Variant configuration Steps

1) Create Class: CL02

2) Create Characteristics: CT04

3) Assign Characteristics to class: CL02

4) Create Materials masters (all the Header &

Components): MM01

5) Assign class to the Material master (Header) : MM02

6) Create Super BOM: CS01

7) Create Object dependency for BOM: CS02

8) Create Super Routing: CA01

9) Create Object dependency for routing: CA02

10) Create Configuration profile CU41

11) Create Sales order : VA01

12) Run MRP for sales order MD50

13) Check Stock requirements list in MD04

12) Check Production / sales BOM in MD04 / MD13

Master data settings for VC

1) Material should be of configurable (Configurable material type or indicator

in Basic data 2)

2) Sales item category group should be 0002 (Configuration)

3) Planning strategy group 25 (Optional)
