Variant Configuration is an engine that controls how the customer specifies exactly what product & choices within that product that they would like to buy… When you configure & order your Laptop through web, you are using VC! Now it is time to look at VC from the other side…

Variant Configuration is used for manufacturing complex products. As always, the customer is the king & determines the features of the product! The manufacturer decides what features can be offered.

The Product Configuration improves information exchange between sales, Engineering & Production.

Without VC, a car manufacturer, for example, may have to create hundreds of materials to cover the various options offered. With VC, you create just one Configurable Material to cover all the Variants!

The magic is not over yet…You create just one Super BOM and one Super Routing for this material containing all the components & operations for producing all the variants!!

It is guaranteed that you will be a Super Consultant once you master VC!!!

We’ll use the Characteristics to define the features of a configurable material. Class type 300 helps us to enable the characteristics to configure the material.

Let’s move to the next level of complexity…All types of car engine cannot be combined with all types of transmission. We’ll use Dependencies to prevent the combinations of options that are not allowed.

And the Reports the client will demand out of SAP can be the most challenging. Let’s be prepared for that too.

Meetings…meetings…Non stop meetings…Blueprint Phase is generally the most important (& boring) part of the project!

If you do not do sufficient prototyping during this phase, you will be talking in the air and the client can only hope that the implementation will go on well…

Even worse, you might not be able to make the system work in the way, you had believed it would, by (mis) understanding the SAP help documentation!! And mid-way into the realization phase, you will be forced to re-design your solution.

We will avoid this scenario, once and for all!

This training on “Real time Project Scenario’s for Variant Configuration” will replicate a blue-print phase of a project. The Shoubii Consultants will play the dual role of the client Business Manager as well as a Solution Architect of a project.

The Business Manager will explain the actual business scenarios. Then we will get into some discussion to understand the requirement. Finally the Solution Architect will give a direction on how it has to be mapped in SAP.
