People of Our Parish

From Our Pastor:The Season of Lent, which we began this past Ash Wednesday, is not just a time

to fast from food and abstain from meat (please see last Sunday’s bulletin, March 3) Indeed, prayer, fasting and almsgiving help us to grow in the virtues of faith, hope and love (Matthew 6:1-18) – our Lenten practices draw us into living the two great Commandments, love of God and love of neighbor Thus, we might:

Fast from judging others (we do judge actions, what is right and wrong, but not persons) because we love every one of God’s children made in His image and likenessFast from focusing on problems because we love focusing on solutions Fast from thoughts of illness because we love the healing power of God (for example, in the Sacraments of Confession and Anointing of the Sick)Fast from words that pollute because we love words that call us to purityFast from complaining and grumbling because we love being gratefulFast from anger and impatience because we love serenity and patienceFast from pessimism because we love being optimisticFast from worry because we love to trust in Jesus and His Divine MercyFast from destructive criticism because we love constructive criticismFast from resentment and bitterness because we love being forgiving and mercifulFast from self-concern because we love being compassionate toward othersFast from discouragement because we love focusing on Christian faith, hope and love Fast from pride and disobedience because we love being humble and obedient servants of Jesus Christ, the Only Savior of the worldFast Why? Because we love Jesus Christ, Who is the Way, the Truth and the Life

With prayers in Christ for a blessed and fruitful Lent,Fr. William

SAINT CLEMENT SCHOOL

LENT IS HERE!We mentioned three online resources for daily Lenten reflections

in recent bulletins, and we know there are many more to choose from But these three bear worth repeating Sign up for daily Lenten emails from:

• FORMEDorg at wwwformedorg/promo/lent-registration• Dynamic Catholic at wwwBestLentEvercom • Redeemed Online at wwwredeemedonline/lent/

What might be some other ways that you can deepen your faith during Lent and draw closer to Christ? Here are a few ideas:

• Take part in the adult education offering, “No Greater Love: A Biblical Walk Through Christ’s Passion”

• For men: Take part in the Men’s Group on Sundays at 7 PM in the parish dining hall

• Make family prayer each day a priority• Pray on Wednesday nights in the Fatima Chapel from 6:00 to

6:45 for an end to abortion, and for healing for those affected by it

• Commit to pray at the Perpetual Adoration Chapel at St Mary Church in Fennimore

• Listen to one of the Lighthouse Media CDs at the entrance of the church

• Spend some time in prayer at a church before or after work or school each day

• Come to a weekday Mass if you are able• Take part in the weekly Stations of the Cross on Fridays Or

pray the Stations on your own during the day• Watch a film or do a study, such as “Forgiven,” at FORMEDorg • Volunteer at the Food Pantry, and/or one of the Thrift stores• Pray for a seminarian or a woman in religious formation Prayer

cards are at the entrance of the church• Use the Rice Bowl to help the needy Monies will be donated

to the Missionaries of Charity• Volunteer at one of the nursing homes, or at Morningside

Assisted Living There are occasions where members of St Clement Parish help with bingo, lead the rosary and assist with other activities

• In addition to Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, fast from food on extra days during Lent

• Laser-focus your prayer on a specific person, such as a loved one or the man who will be our next bishop, for example, or on a specific situation Maybe change your focus each week

• Read and reflect upon the Readings for the Day Use Magnificat or The Word Among Us

These are just a few ideas to help make Lent a fruitful season Remember, it’s not about how much we do, but rather the love for God and others that we put into our actions Whatever we choose for Lent should help us become more generous and faithful disciples of Jesus Christ

JOURNEY TO THE EASTER SACRAMENTSThroughout the Lenten Season, may we keep in our prayers

Lynne Klaas who will enter into Full Communion in the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Confirmation and 1st Holy Communion at the Easter Vigil May the Holy Spirit bless, sanctify and lead her to deeper faith, hope and charity in this sacred time

ADULT EDUCATION OFFERING FOR LENTDuring the Holy Season of Lent, we will be focusing on the

Passion of Jesus, using the newly released study by Dr Edward Sri titled, “No Greater Love: A Biblical Walk Through Christ’s Passion.” In this study and reflection, we will grow in our understanding that the Passion was an act of love, that Jesus endured His Passion to redeem humanity because of His immense love for us This study, with God’s grace, is designed to help us respond to His tremendous love with our own genuine love, gratitude, and joy There will be two opportunities to take part in “No Greater Love”: Wednesdays at 9:00 AM starting March 13; and Thursdays at 6:15 PM starting March 14 We will gather in the parish office meeting room, with sessions lasting about an hour and a half Everyone is welcome Please contact Bill Manthe at the parish office if you have any questions

STATIONS OF THE CROSSFridays, 5:30 pm, March 8, 15, 22, 29

and April 5 and 12
