From the Pen of Father Len Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Titus Parish,

Praised be Jesus Christ—now and Forever!

There’s a new short phrase (at least for me) that I’ve heard being used rather recently. I often wondered what was actually meant by the phrase. The phrase is THE NEW NORMAL. I believe it must mean that things we used or did , the way we looked or the things we said in the past are now no longer the NORM. But instead, they have basically become extinct or obsolete. And they have been replaced, for better or for worse, with new things that are now part of our normal way of living. Looking at out technology, its easy to see plenty of NEW NORMALS. Most people, for example, have cell phones as their main telephone. We don’t use the old dial telephones that were the norm for so many years. We’re so used to having cell phones, that they’re what we mean when we say phone. So, cell phones are a NEW NORMAL. We don’t use cameras and film any longer. Our phones or special digital cameras with memory cards are the NEW NORMAL. You can’t even buy film anymore or get old film developed. Technologically, there are plenty of other examples: Jet planes, microwave ovens, workout equipment, etc., etc. Take a look at our fashions. The way we look and the way we dress seems to change regularly. We can have a NEW NORMAL every 5 to 10 years in this category. We certainly don’t dress like Jesus did. Men’s coats and women’s dresses are not like they were in 1776. When was the last time you saw a man in a leisure suit or a Nehru jacket? Guys have bald heads instead of long hair. Women’s hair designs have changed radically over the years. Unfortunately, Like so many things, there is the dark side of NEW NORMAL. There are things that, although legal, are totally against the commandments of God. Things we just take for granted now that would have never been thought of 50 years ago are apparently just another NEW NORMAL. Things like gay marriage, easy access to pornography over the internet, credit card fraud. The worst NEW NORMAL is abortion. Having a baby killed in the womb is not only legal, its commonplace. With almost a million (yes, million) unborn babies being hilled by abortion each year, it certainly has become commonplace and, hence, the NEW NORMAL. Too many people just take it as a regular everyday occurrence. Its no big thing. In these area, I think we were far better off as a people and as a society, when we practiced the OLD normal. Follow God’s way and His commandments. Our world would certainly be a much better place if we did. Peace,

Fr. Len

FR. LEN ’S LAUGHING CORNER

Barber Undercut A small town’s only barber was known for his arrogant and negative attitude. When one of his customers mentioned he’d be going to Rome on a vacation and hoped to meet the pope, the barber’s reaction was typical. “You?” he said. “Meet the pope? Don’t make me laugh! The pope sees kings and presidents. What would he want with you?”

A month later, the man returned for another haircut. “How was Rome?” asked the barber.

“Great! I saw the pope!”

“On his balcony from St. Peter’s Square? With the rest of the crowds?”

“Yes, but then two of his Swiss Guards came up and said the pope wanted to meet me and took me right into his private apartment in the Vatican.”

“Really?” the barber asked. “What did he say?”

“He said, ’Who gave you that lousy haircut?’”

LAUGH OUT LOUD TODAY - IT’S GOOD FOR YOU!

PARISH OFFICE REMAINS OPEN MONDAY—FRIDAY, 9am-4pm DURING THE SUSPENSION OF MASSES/ACTIVITIES. NOT OPEN FOR EVENING HOURS.

MEET ST. CORONA, PATRONESS OF EPIDEMICS She witnessed the martyrdom of St. Victor, a soldier who was executed by his brothers-in-arms for his faith. While Victor was being tortured and disfigured, the brave 16-year-old Corona cried out comforting words and encouragement as Victor held fast to his faith and gave up his life for the Lord. Victor’s persecutors soon turned on Corona and executed her by tying her to drawn palm trees, which ripped her in half when snapped upright. Yet the young saint never gave up her faith. As the Coronavirus wreaks havoc and vexes us all, St. Corona gives us an opportunity to lean into our faith and cling to hope, no matter the turmoil around us.

St. Corona, patroness of epidemics, pray for us!

ST. JOHN’S HOSPICE CASSEROLE PROGRAM St. Titus Parish has been making casseroles for St. John’s Hospice in Center City Philadelphia for over 35 years. The casseroles are the “Main Course” of a complete, hot meal that is served to hundreds of God’s poor and homeless who come to St. John’s for their daily bread. Please do not feel restricted to the recipes which can be found on the recipe sheets near the casserole pan in the vestibule. Your favorite recipe is most welcome! So are store bought casseroles such as Stouffers or Oncor. St. John’s provides us with pans and lids for your dishes. If you provide your own, please use a standard “half tray”. Each casserole serves 6-8 men. Each month, St. John’s picks up the dishes from our freezer. Here are some useful hints: Please bring your casseroles frozen

to church and put them in the freezer located in the vestibule of the Social Hall. If the door to the Social Hall is locked, please leave the casserole with a sacristan or maintenance.

Prepare your recipe so that it can be eaten with a plastic “spork” (a combination spoon and fork).

Please mark the lid with the main ingredients and date you prepared your casserole.

Keep those casseroles coming! St. John’s Hospice has notified us that they will continue to make pickups during the COVID-19 crisis. The need is great especially now.
