From the Pen of Father Len

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Titus Parish,

Praised be Jesus Christ—now and Forever!

Happy Easter everyone. It is strange not to be able to celebrate at Mass together. But that doesn’t change the gloriousness of the holiday. It is still the day we celebrate the gift of our freedom from sin due to the death and resurrection of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. For those of us who have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we realize that our earthly life is not our true eternal home. Our home is in heaven and Jesus has guaranteed that we’ll all get there when our time is through. In the middle of all this recent talk of sickness and death, on Easter, we focus on eternal LIFE! We know our time on earth is temporary. We all have a place reserved for us in an eternal home in heaven.

So, even though we cannot rejoice together, we still REJOICE! Jesus has opened the gates of heaven for us, and thanks to him, We do indeed REJOICE! Peace, Fr. Len

7 April 12, 2020

PARISH OFFICE REMAINS OPEN MONDAY—FRIDAY, 9am-4pm DURING THE SUSPENSION OF MASSES/ACTIVITIES. NOT OPEN FOR EVENING HOURS.

MEET ST. CORONA, PATRONESS OF EPIDEMICS She witnessed the martyrdom of St. Victor, a soldier who was executed by his brothers-in-arms for his faith. While Victor was being tortured and disfigured, the brave 16-year-old Corona cried out comforting words and encouragement as Victor held fast to his faith and gave up his life for the Lord. Victor’s persecutors soon turned on Corona and executed her by tying her to drawn palm trees, which ripped her in half when snapped upright. Yet the young saint never gave up her faith. As the Coronavirus wreaks havoc and vexes us all, St. Corona gives us an opportunity to lean into our faith and cling to hope, no matter the turmoil around us.

St. Corona, patroness of epidemics, pray for us!

Last week, the Holy Father shared the most extrordinary Urbi et Orbi blessing. His words are gift to the world! Ponder and pray and let this message give you hope for today. "The Lord asks us and, in the midst of our tempest, invites us to reawaken and put into practice that solidarity and hope capable of giving strength, support and meaning to these hours when everything seems to be floundering. The Lord awakens so as to reawaken and revive our Easter faith. We have an anchor: by his cross we have been saved. We have a rudder: by his cross we have been redeemed. We have a hope: by his cross we have been healed and embraced so that nothing and no one can separate us from his redeeming love. In the midst of isolation when we are suffering from a lack of tenderness and chances to meet up, and we experience the loss of so many things, let us once again listen to the proclamation that saves us: he is risen and is living by our side. The Lord asks us from his cross to rediscover the life that awaits us, to look towards those who look to us, to strengthen, recognize and foster the grace that lives within us. Let us not quench the wavering flame (cf. Is 42:3) that never falters, and let us allow hope to be rekindled."

~Message of Pope Francis, March 27, 2020

A NEW PERSPECTIVE Today, we wanted to share these inspiring and encouraging words from Father Richard Hendrick of Donegal, Ireland.

Yes, there is fear. Yes, there is isolation. Yes, there is panic buying. Yes, there is sickness. Yes, there is even death. But, they say that in Wuhan after so many years of noise, you can hear the birds again.

They say that after just a few weeks of quiet the sky is no longer thick with fumes but blue and grey and clear.

They say that in the streets of Assisi, people are singing to each other across the empty squares, keeping their windows open so that those who are alone may hear the sounds of family around them. They say that a hotel in the West of Ireland is offering free meals and delivery to the housebound. Today, a young woman I know is busy spreading fliers with her number through the neighborhood, so that the elders may have someone to call on. Today, churches, synagogues, mosques and temples are preparing to welcome and shelter the homeless, the sick, the weary. All over the world, people are slowing down and reflecting, all over the world people are looking at their neighbors in a new way, all over the world people are waking up to a new reality to how big we really are, to how little control we really have, to what really matters. To love. So, we pray and we remember that yes, there is fear. But, there does not have to be hate. Yes, there is isolation. But, there does not have to be loneliness. Yes, there is panic buying. But, there does not have to be meanness. Yes, there is sickness. But, there does not have to be disease of the soul. Yes, there is even death. But, there can always be a rebirth of love. Wake to the choices you make as to how to live now. Today, breathe. Listen, behind the factory noises of your panic the birds are singing again. The sky is clearing, spring is coming, And, we are always encompassed by Love. Open the windows of your soul. And, though you may not be able to touch across the empty square, sing.

HOLY ROSARY REVIEW Look for more updates in the coming weeks!

Dear Saint John’s Hospice Family, We are incredibly grateful for the heart-warming response to our recent request for financial support during this critical time! The outpouring of support has been incredible and such a testament to the solidarity that we all share with Saint John’s Hospice. Please stand with us today! While we have reached our initial goal, your support can allow us to exceed it. In this moment of great need it is because of your generosity that we are able to continue providing meals to the men whom we serve. As a result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and the closing of another shelter in our neighborhood, we need your help more than ever. Please make a gift to-day to help us provide expanded services at this critical time. The number of people who need our help has greatly increased:

Daily public lunch average has increased from 220 people per day to 320 people per day Monday, Wednesday, Friday dinner has in-creased from 30 people per night to 80 people per night (123 people on Wednesday, 3/25)

For the safety of everyone we serve, we are providing our meals via carryout packages at our front door. We hope that by limiting crowds inside of our building, we will help to keep all of our residents, guests, and staff healthy. Thank you for standing with Saint John’s Hospice and the men we serve!

P.S. We are counting on your support to make sure that everyone who comes to our door receives a meal. Checks can be mailed to: P.O. Box 781048, Phila., PA 19178-1048 Sincerely, Marty Farrell, Director, Dev & Community Relations
