The Claretian Missionaries are looking for a part-time volunteer Who wants to work to promote the cause for the Beat-ification of Fr. Aloysius Ellacuria, cmf. Our volunteers should be : •Active members of the Mission parish or a nearby parish •Live near the Mission so that commuting would not be an issue

•Willing to work at least 10hrs a week •Able to do light office work (answer the phone, re-spond to letters, prepare information brochures, etc.)

•Able to help prepare some simple displays of memo-rabilia about Fr. Aloysius and other such events as needed.

•Willing to work on other projects related to promot-ing the cause of Fr. Aloysius.

Durante el mes de noviembre, nosotros recordamos de manera especial a nuestros seres queridos fallecidos. Cele-bramos un Triduo especial (tres días) el 31 de octubre, 1 de noviembre, y el 2 de noviembre. Halloween (que original-mente se celebró como una vigilia del Dia De Todos Los Santos), El Dia De Los Santos, y El Dia De Todas Las Al-mas. El Dia De Los Santos, que es un Día Obligatorio, celebrare-mos las misas a las 6:30 a.m., 12 p.m. y 6:30 p.m. (español). Añadiremos una misa a las 7 p.m. en Ingles en la Misión para su comodidad. Para celebrar El Dia De Todas Las Almas, que, en la cultura latina, se le llama El Dia De Los Muertos, prepararemos un altar especial en La Capilla de La Anunciación. Invitamos a todos los feligreses a colocar una foto de sus familiares o amigos que han fallecido. También tendremos El Libro del Recuerdo en el cual usted puede escribir los nombres de las personas que desea recordar. El Altar y el libro estarán en su lugar el día 1 de noviembre. Si usted recibe sobres para las ofrendas, devuelva el sobre del Dia De Todas Las Almas el próximo fin de semana, 27 y 28 de octubre, para que poda-mos recordar sus intenciones en las misas del Dia de Todas Las Almas. El domingo, 4 de noviembre, la Oficina Regional de Oaxaca y La Misión de San Gabriel, presentaran una celebración Del Dia De Los Muertos. Altares tradicionales de Oaxaca y otras áreas de México alinearan el camino entre los dos sitios de adoración. La celebración comienza con la misa de la 1 p.m. e incluirá bailes tradicionales, bandas musicales en vi-vo, y comida típica Oaxaqueña. ¡Todos son invitados! ¡Antes de que lleguemos a noviembre, tenemos algunas noti-cias importantes de octubre! Este miércoles que se aproxima, el día 24 de octubre, es el Dia de San Antonio María Claret, el fundador de los Misio-neros Claretianos que han formado parte de esta parroquia desde 1908. Dear Friends in Mission,

During the month of November, we the Church re-member in a special way our beloved dead. We celebrate a special triduum (three days) on October 31st, November 1st, and November 2nd: Halloween (which was originally celebrated as a vigil for All Saints Day), All Saints, and All Souls. On All Saints Day, which is a Holy Day of Obligation, we will celebrate Mass at 6:30 a.m., noon, and 6:30 p.m. (Spanish); we will add a 7 p.m. Mass in English in the old Mission for your convenience. To celebrate All Souls, which in the Latino/Hispanic culture, is referred to as “The Day of the Dead,” we will prepare a special altar in the Chapel and invite all parish-ioners to place a photo of their departed relatives and friends. We will also have a Book of Remembrance, in which you might write the names of those you wish to re-member. The altar and book will be in place on Novem-ber 1st. If you receive offertory envelopes, please return your All Souls envelope next weekend, October 27/28, so that we remember your intentions at the Masses on All Souls Day. On Sunday, November 4th, the Regional Office of Oa-xaca and San Gabriel Mission, will present a Day of the Dead celebration. Traditional altars from Oaxaca and oth-er areas of Mexico will line the walkway between the two worship sites. The celebration begins with the 1 p.m. Mass, and will include traditional dances, live musical bands, and traditional Oaxacan food. All are invited! Before we get to November, we have some important news for October! This coming Wednesday, October 24th, is the Feast Day of St. Anthony Mary Claret, the founder of the Claretian Missionaries, who have staffed this parish since 1908. Please remember us in your prayers this week. If you would like to remember and honor a special Claretian who is buried in our Mission cemetery, you are invited to light a candle at his grave this Wednesday. Candles are available for sale in the Gift Shop. And finally, please remember that next weekend is Commitment Weekend. We are asking all families to prayerfully consider increasing their donation to the Offer-tory. Please come prepared to make your commitment. As always, thank you for your generosity to your church!

Faith Formation Corner Share the Joy of the Rosary

October is a month when we celebrate the Rosary. Pope St. Pius V attributed a 16th century naval victory saving Europe from a Turkish invasion to the intercession of Our Lady through the Rosary. We arm our children with a powerful weapon against evil when we teach them to call on Our Lady’s help through the Rosary. Sit together in a comfortable place. Remind children that our Lady is a mother, happy to have her children’s attention. Choose intentions. When we pray for other’s best interests, children learn the power of prayer. Observe 30 seconds of silence. Sit silently for 30 seconds while picturing the image and mystery of Jesus’ life. Start by praying a decade. It takes less than five minutes. As youngsters pray with patience, add mysteries and decades until you pray an entire Rosary. Don’t force it. We want prayer to be a joy, not a chore. *************************************************

Parent Talk How many of our children complain about praying the Ro-sary? “it’s boring”, “It’s too long”, these are the cries we hear as parents all the time. Perhaps this little idea would help change those little minds and open their hearts to love the prayer that is the Rosary. Order simple rosary making kits online. Once you receive them set aside a special time to sit with the children and have a mini lesson about it. Talk about some of the saints who loved the rosary, perhaps how St. Pa-dre Pio called his Rosary his “weapon” against temptation. Al-so tell them that praying the Rosary is way of calling on our Blessed Mother in times of trouble or when we need help. Tell your children that the Rosary is a prayer about Jesus through Mary’s eyes. You’d be surprised as to how much your children will enjoy learning about the Rosary. They will be happy when their Rosary is complete because they made it themselves and hopefully will learn to love the prayer and keep it close to their hearts. So why not give it a try! *************************************************

Octubre es un mes en el que celebramos el Rosario. El Papa San Pío V atribuyó una victoria naval del siglo XVI que salvó a Europa de una invasión turca a la intercesión de Nuestra Señora a través del Rosario. Armamos a nuestros hijos con un arma poderosa contra el mal cuando les enseñamos a pedir la ayuda de Nuestra Señora a través del Rosario. Siéntense juntos en un lugar cómodo. Recuerde a los niños que nuestra Señora es una madre, feliz de tener la aten-ción de sus hijos. Elige intenciones. Let us honor a deceased Claretian priest of your choice with the lighting of a candle. Purchase your candle at the Gift Shop and we will light and place on their tomb on Oc-tober 24th, when we celebrate our Patron Saint Anthony Marie Claret and all of our Claretians Missionaries.

San Gabriel Mission Elementary School Spartan Book Club Uses “WONDER” To Teach Acceptance

Ms. Peinado and her Spartan Book Club book worms have been reading R.J. Palacio's book called "Wonder." It is a story about a boy who was born with a rare facial disorder. But beyond that de-scription, it is a story that teaches our children about how we see those that are different from our-selves. There is a quote in the book that is simple but profound; it reads, "Auggie can't change how he looks. Maybe we should change how we see." Thank you to our faculty who are always looking for innovative ways to teach our students about love, compassion and acceptance!
