Speaker: Muhammad Iqbal Vocational Training Institute Narowal, Pakistan TITLE: INSPIRING ENGLISH LEARNERS AND TEACHERS TO WRITE OUT OF THE BOX Observations show that in recent decades, English teachers have appeared to use a number of innovative pedagogical methods around the world so that learners can be inspired to use creativity in lieu of cramming and rote- memorization in their day to day classroom actions. In this workshop, the speaker focuses on how he inspires their limited proficient learners and even some teachers in remote and rural areas to write creatively and innovatively in the classroom. He presents how he follows the models of small poems created by Jaya and Alan in the classroom. Finally, he shares some of the creative work of their limited proficient learners.

When you walk at night Snakes dance

Suddenly They fall down

And die for ever As

They hear the music Of your soft feet

When you walk at night The starts twinkle in the sky

Suddenly They fall down

Tear into pieces

And die for everAs

They look atThe beauty of your rosy cheeks

The next dayEarly in the morning

The sunRises in the east

And with their blazing eyesPeeps through

The hilly bushesJust to see

What happens? When you walk at night

DIVERGENT THINKING

Divergent thinking is a thought process or method used to generate creative ideas by exploring many possible solutions. The goal of divergent thinking is to generate many different ideas about a topic in a short period of time. It involves breaking a topic down into its various component parts in order to gain insight about the various aspects of the topic. Divergent thinking typically occurs in a spontaneous, free-flowing manner, such that the ideas are generated in a random, unorganized fashion.

Convergent thinking is a term coined by Joy Paul Guilford as the

opposite of divergent thinking. It generally means the ability to

give the "correct" answer to standard questions that do not

require significant creativity, for instance in most tasks in school

and on standardized multiple-choice test for intelligence.
