VP Technical Report By John Fischer Jr.

My thanks go to Nicholas Roberts who filled in for me as I participated in the UPC Code Development Technical Committee meeting in Denver. He introduced Brandon Kotyk, Regional Manager of the Midwest for Vitaulic Co. Mr. Kotyk’s presentation provided information on a mechanical grooved joint piping system for copper piping and other piping materials. Among the information provided included the following. Grooved piping became available as early as 1919 when it received its first patent. It obtains its seal between the groove and the ends of the pipe by means of a gasket, which is then enhanced by the pressure or vacuum in the piping. Some of the benefits of the joining system particularly with copper piping are that each joint is a union, no flame is introduced to the work area, and there is less waste of material. Among other materials which can benefit by the use of this system is iron piping systems including stainless, black and galvanized steel, and plastic HDPE piping. . By the time this newsletter arrives I will have been able to e-mail your continuing education certificates. If you do not or have not then contact me at the September meeting where I will have a copy of the roster of attendees and will prepare your certificate at that time. Anybody who has certificates from other meetings they will be available at the September meeting. Thanks very much for your help.

I have received interest from additional national organizations such as UL and NFPA to provide presentations at coming meetings. If we can agree on schedules they have indicated they would be interested. Those of you who represent manufacturers who supply products to our industry would be most candidates to make a presentation. Getting the products you provide in front of our members should reap future benefits. If I can help you in any way to provide such a presentation please call. Suggestions for meeting presentations are always very much appreciated.

Hope to see you at the golf tournament. I always look forward to participating even when my golf ball does not always follow a desired path. Previous years have shown this outing to be of particular enjoyment for the participants and I refer not only to the golf but the delicious and welcome food provided.

Hope to see you there..
