Praying for a new school year at the Chandler Elementary School this past Sunday reminded me of one place where our ministry might be missed if we weren’t here. Teachers, school administrators, students, and families feel your presence and influence in your prayers, your gifts and when you volunteer to serve. What other places in our local community do you feel Pleasant Retreat UMC might be missed if we were not here? Choice or Trust?

What is it that keeps us going? Each day can be a challenge

all its own. The world can be so unkind, and yet it can bring

such joy. So, which is it today? Often, we hear that “we” have

the choice to have a good or bad day, but that’s too simplistic.

There are so many external factors that influence our daily lives, that we forget to

trust what God may have in store for us.

I think we get so confused and disheartened by things because we do not understand

them or have no control over them, doubt is literally like a cloud that takes over our

lives, that drops down in front of our eyes so that we don’t actually see what is going

on right in front of us.

To “see more clearly”, take time this week and remember these words from Joshua

1:9. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do

not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

An Invitation for YOU to Sing along!

Consider this a personal invitation to be a part of the Chancel Choir. I would like for

all of you to be a part of our music and worship ministry.

Our weekly rehearsals are Wednesdays at 6:30 pm right after Family Night Life. We do

have a great deal of fun, just ask a choir member! We resume our regular schedule

    on September 5th following FNL.

This is a non-audition choir that welcomes anyone who loves to sing and is open to all

adults and senior high youth. I’m looking forward to another great year for all to

“make a joyful noise to the Lord”!

Hope to see you Sundays and Wednesdays! Otis

Thank you to Katheryn Hetherly for your donation to the church

in honor of Forest & Wilda Rathbun!

A Fond Farewell to Forest & Wilda Rathbun!A Fond Farewell to Forest & Wilda Rathbun!A Fond Farewell to Forest & Wilda Rathbun!A Fond Farewell to Forest & Wilda Rathbun!

On Sunday, August 19th, we had a special

reception to wish Forest & Wilda the best as they

begin a new adventure closer to their family in

Lufkin, Texas. We thanked them for their faithful

commitment to Pleasant Retreat UMC and told

them to come see us often!

Special thanks from the Rathbuns to all of you:Special thanks from the Rathbuns to all of you:Special thanks from the Rathbuns to all of you:Special thanks from the Rathbuns to all of you:

To know you is to know people who are kind,

considerate and thoughtful. To know you is to be

grateful for the special things you do. For

everything you’ve done, for being the special

people that you are, thank you! Love all of you!

    Blessings, Forest & Wilda

Thank you from Lynda Fowler:Thank you from Lynda Fowler:Thank you from Lynda Fowler:Thank you from Lynda Fowler: Dear Ones, Just receiving a wonderful group of birthday cards last week from members of our beloved church gave me flashbacks of joyful memories! All of you remain loved ones to me as I think of the happiest times of my life. Please keep on loving me although I am far away. God is still real to me

and continues to say “I Am” because He is! God bless!

The Worship Commi8ee is reinstang an old

tradion! Beginning August 1, 2018 we wanted to giL

the members of PRUMC who have a baby born/

adopted to a member a Cradle Cross that will become

a keepsake for the child. The Cradle Cross will be

placed on the altar aLer the birth or adopon and

then given to the parents. This tradion will be for

    members of PRUMC.

We understand that there will be parents and grandparents who are members

of PRUMC who would like to have a Cradle Cross for their child/grandchild if

that is the case you are welcome to request and purchase one by contacng

the church office. In this case the Cross would not be placed on the altar but

rather given to you once it arrives and you can giL it to your child/grandchild.

    METHODIST YOUTH FELLOWSHIP

We are proud to announce that three of our girls have moved

up to the youth group from the children’s division. Savannah

Stroud, Ellie Lemmert and Emily Howard are now officially in

the youth group! They went with us on our youth trip to

Branson and fit right in. Most of our youth have known them

    since they were very young

and they are just part of the

    family. We are all looking

    forward to watching these

girls grow in their faith and

    continuing their journey to

    become disciples of Christ.

    -Jeremy

In our Children’s Division, we had a great group of kids

receive regular attendance pins, Bibles and backpack

blessings on Sunday, August 19th! A big thank you to all

    the wonderful

    teachers that help our

    kiddos learn about

    Christ’s love!
