Dr. Marva Usher-Kerr, Retreat Leader Hailing from United Methodist Women in New York City, where she is currently the Executive Secretary for Membership, Marva has served a total of 31 years with the Global Ministries and United Methodist Women. She is also a certified evangelist serving Willis Ave. UMC, Bronx, as associate pastor. She is past president of the New York Conference United Methodist Women, a delegate to General and Jurisdictional Conferences in 2004, 2008 and 2012; she served in mission in Haiti, Africa and South America and worked with Russian and Cambodian women as well as with stateside local, district and conference women. The Retreat Program begins officially on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., with the option of arriving Friday afternoon or evening, and ends with lunch on Sunday. UMW Day 2015 invites you to wear your favorite summer straw hat and prepare for a southern “Adventure.”  Your day begins with some good ol’ fashioned southern fellowship on the Vaughn Chapel patio at 9:30 am as you sip your choice of juice or coffee and enjoy sumptuous pastries 

You will then move inside to relax in the cool of the Chapel and enjoy some toe tapping bluegrass gospel as presented by the Java Brothers Bluegrass Band.  The Java Brothers are from Radford, Virginia.  They offer a variety of old and new styles patterned after some of their favorites:  Bill Monroe, the Stanley Brothers,, Sam Bush, the Country Gentlemen, the Beatles, the Stones, and all the greats.  

The fun continues over a southern ladies lunch and “The Mark Twain Show” as presented by Professor Emeritus Rex Stephenson, creator of the Jack Tale Players and the Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre.  This show is a real treat as it depicts the life of Mark Twain, and is written and performed by Dr. Stephenson.  So unpack your straw hat and get ready for the 

“Adventure” at this year’s  UMW Day Ferrum College
