Information Systems Specialist IV – SIMS Database Administrator Variant Job Description

Definition Performs advanced computer systems analysis and database administration work on the NPS student information management systems (SIMS) and related databases. An employee assigned to a position in this class is responsible for working with information division colleagues to support their information and data processing needs, coordinating the processing of SIMS functions, and performing database administration tasks. The specific SIMS work involves installing, managing and monitoring DBMS products, installing SIMS applications, developing and documenting data collection and data entry procedures, developing and managing interfaces between SIMS and other data bases. Supervision Work is performed under the general supervision of a Student Information Systems Manager. Established policies and procedures provide guides for the work. Most work decisions are made independently but all work is checked for errors and conformance to established standards and procedures. Direct supervision may be exercised over lower level specialists and technical supervision is always exercised over staff assigned to a project they may be managing. Distinguishing Characteristics This is the advanced systems analyst level of the information systems specialist series. The class is differentiated from the ISS III class, the fully proficient systems analyst class but lacking additional seniority and/or greater experience. Essential Functions of the Class

Installs, manages and monitors the daily operation of all SIMS DBMS products.

Monitors and coordinates activities relating to the SIMS databases; monitors database performance, develops backup and recovery procedures, develops logical and physical database schema, assists application analysts and programmers and users working with the databases.

Takes the lead in the coordination of major SIMS functions such as annual student record rollover.

Develops and manages all interfacing programs (imports/extracts) to the SIMS databases and installs SIMS applications and application updates.

Leads other information systems staff in the development of informational presentations or reports; assigns portions of projects to staff and provides technical work direction; checks and tests work for acceptance; monitors and reports progress to supervisor.

Confers with user staff to determine information needs; determines potential sources of information; collects data into or extracts data from SIMS databases; designs forms, reports, and related items for information presentation.

Definition This is an administrative support position to the Senior Director of Communications and Media Relations, and is assigned to the Norfolk Public Schools Communications Team. An employee in this class is responsible for assisting the Senior Director of Communications and Media Relations in communicating with the school division’s shareholders. Definition This is procurement work at the full performance/lead level with responsibility for conducting one or more procurement activities within one or more specialized commodity or service areas. Position manages, directs, negotiates and awards complex high-value and unique acquisitions in accordance with state and federal legal requirements and school division policies/procedures. The work involves market research , conferring with school division personnel and vendors at all levels, assisting end-users on developing specifications, utilizing e-commerce and e-procurement technology tools, and preparing and executing contracts, agreements and purchase orders. Position is also required to act as a consultant to the district in evaluating business cases and requirement alternatives, including make/buy and lease/purchase decisions. Supervision Duties are performed under the general supervision of the Buyer/Contract Manager, Purchases and Supply However, an employee in this class plans, organizes, and performs routine work independently in assigned areas using judgment and initiative. Incumbent may assign work to clerical personnel and incumbents are expected to orient, train and instruct new district employees and vendors, as required. Distinguishing Characteristics This is a senior, full performance level within the procurement series, and is distinguished from positions of lower grade by the incumbent’s demonstrated ability and subsequent authority to act and make decisions throughout the procurement process with minimal assistance from the Buyer/Contract Manager. Reviews and/or drafts procurement documents. Makes recommendations to the Buyer/Contract Manager on changes to procurement technical policy and procedural issues.

Researches market information to evaluate vendor services, and supplies, equipment and services in assigned procurement categories. Determines best sources of supply for proposed purchases. Conducts negotiations for competitive proposals and sole source contracts.

Deputy Clerk of the School Board Job Description

Definition The employee in this position provides administrative support to and acts in the place of the School Board Clerk during any period of absence. The work includes assisting with completing the detailed and written work relating to School Board operations and coordinating other matters essential to its efficiency. School Health and Wellness Coordinator Job Description

Definition The School Health and Wellness Coordinator for Norfolk Public Schools is responsible for the management and supervision of school health and nursing programs and the promotion of health and wellness activities across the district. The coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive school health program. The School Health and Wellness Coordinator will serve as a resident medical expert and communicator for all issues related to school health. Budget development, materials management, policy development, training, assisting with clinical supervision, evaluation, and creating a climate that supports excellent customer service and positive relationships are the primary tasks of this position.
