Celebrate the great outdoors with two days and three nights covering everything from distance running and trail biking to mountain climbing and microadventures, all around the world. As well as the chance to see a great line-up of high-adrenaline films – documentaries, features and short sharp shockers; you will hear from intriguing and inspiring people – ultra marathon runner Andrew Murray drops in after running 50 kilometres a day across the Namib Desert, inspirational speaker Alastair Humphreys introduces you to microadventures; Richard Moore brings a special Tour de France to life; and Lukasz Warzecha reflects on how and why he captures outdoor adventures so brilliantly on film. Adventure is Only a State of Mind Talk - Alastair Humphreys Adventurer, author and motivational speaker Alastair Humphreys has travelled the world in search of extreme experiences – walking across India, running the Marathon des Sables, canoeing the Yukon and rowing the Atlantic. But, as he explains in his new book “Microadventures”, there are huge adventures to be had on your doorstep – where you can plan a weekend that’s cheap, simple, short and local; and just as challenging and rewarding as something that seems more extreme. “Enormous determination, lateral thinking, and a love for life and adventure” Sir Ranulph Fiennes Sun 15 February 2pm £12, child £6 Valley Uprising Film Only weeks after professional climbers Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgeson made the first 19- day ascent of the Dawn Wall on El Capitan in California's Yosemite National Park, this film, directed by Nick Rosen and Peter Mortimer, gives an insight into the history of this very different version of the American Dream. For over 50 years the Yosemite Valley has attracted an extraordinary tribe of climbers. Pioneered by counter-culture characters, beatnik vagabonds, clashing with National Park authorities, this is the story of some of the boldest climbs on earth. This riveting film captures the climbers’ struggle against the laws of gravity, as well as the laws of the land. The Last Ice Merchant directed by Sandy Patch: An award-winning film about the Ushca family in Ecuador, who have harvested glacial ice from the slopes of Mount Chimborazo for generations. The Sensei directed by Josh Lowell and Peter Mortimer: A swansong mission by veteran Japanese climber Yuji Hirayama who sets out to climb the spectacular Mout Kinabalu on the island of Borneo. Home directed by Dean Leslie: Ultra trail- runner Anna Frost returns to her home in New Zealand to reflect on the importance of running, roots and identity. Sun 15 February 6pm £6, child £4 A Celebration of Wild Women Talk and Film - Lukasz Warzecha Cameraman and adventure photographer Lukasz Warzecha is the man behind some of the most stunning films and breathtaking images documenting every sort of outdoor adventure. Recently he’s turned his lens on a collection of ‘wild women’ – including Sarah Ridgway, Ellen Brennan, Hannah Barnes and Karen Darke – producing a set of short films that not only document their sporting feats, but provide some unique insights into their personalities and motivations. Tonight Lukasz shows some of his films on screen, and talks about his work behind the camera.
