IN SERVICE TO ONE, IN SERVICE TO ALL
College Knights ‘Go to Joseph’
College Knights looking for direction and guidance in life need look
no further than St. Joseph, Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly told hun-
dreds of young men gathered virtually for the 56th Knights of Co-
lumbus College Councils Conference.
“As college Knights, St. Joseph can help you answer two key ques-
tions before you: What kind of a man do you want to be? And,
more importantly: What is God calling you to do with the gifts he
has given you?” the supreme knight said.
Knights of Columbus college councils, which are active on nearly
150 campuses in the United States and Canada, aim to help men
contribute to Catholic life on campus through faith formation, ser-
vice and brotherhood. This year’s College Councils Conference,
held Sept. 24-25, brought college-aged members together under
the theme “Go to Joseph.”
Supreme Knight Kelly stressed that St. Joseph can be both a pow-
erful intercessor and a model of courage for young Knights making
foundational decisions about their lives. He added that by joining
the Knights of Columbus, they have already set out on the right
course.
“As a college knight, you’ve already made a decision that sets you
apart and sends a powerful message,” Supreme Knight Kelly said.
“Joining the Knights says to your campus and to the world: ‘I am a
man of faith and I’m not afraid to take a stand.’ That’s no small
thing, especially now. You are following Christ at a difficult time and
place.”
Keynote speaker Father Donald Calloway, MIC, urged college
Knights — in a world where there is “so much confusion about what
it is to be a man” — to imitate the servant leadership of St. Joseph.
Noting that many attendees will be called to fatherhood, Father
Calloway encouraged them to look to Joseph under his title “Pillar
of Families.”

Creative Courage
Continued from page 1:
“If men are not there to shore things up, to hold
things up, to be pillars, things are going to col-
lapse,” he said. “No, you have a role to play:
servant leadership. You have to be sacrificial.”
Father Calloway, a member of Father Peter
Paul Maher Council 6793 in Silver Spring, Md.,
challenged his brother Knights to foster and
deepen personal devotion to St. Joseph. He
suggested three ways to do so: first, honor St.
Joseph every Wednesday, the day traditionally
dedicated to him; second, pray the rosary and
meditate on his silent witness; and third, conse-
crate oneself to him. At the conclusion of his
address, Father Calloway then led the Knights
in a prayer of consecration to St. Joseph.
After the supreme knight’s message and key-
note address, several councils were honored
for their witness and service on campus
throughout the last fraternal year. The Out-
standing College Council Award, which recog-
nizes the college council that best exemplifies
the mission and ideals of the Order, was pre-
sented to St. John Henry Newman Council
11323 at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and
State University in Blacksburg, Va.
Throughout the pandemic, the Knights at Vir-
ginia Tech provided opportunities for Catholic
men on campus to gather at socially distanced
events, including kickball games, cookouts and
Bible studies. They also engaged in service
projects, such as maintaining the grounds at
the Catholic Campus Ministry’s Newman House
and raising money for local charitable organiza-
tions, including a local pregnancy resource cent
-er. (The Knights held a “tonsure drive,” col-
lecting more than $5,000 for the organizations
by shaving the tops of their heads.) One of the
council’s most visible witnesses to the faith
was the eucharistic procession the Knights or-
ganized and held on campus.

Prayer for the Canonization of Blessed Michael McGivney
Founder of the Knights of Columbus God, our Father, pro-
tector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan,
you called your priest, Blessed Michael McGivney, to be an
apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the
generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of
his life and virtue, may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ,
more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and
building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspira-
tion of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in
your love so that we may continue his work of caring for
the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify
Blessed Michael McGivney on earth according to the de-
sign of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the
favor I now present (here make your request). Through
Christ our Lord. Amen.

Message From the Field Agent
Every sport, every enterprise, every organization, every industry has their top reps, their all-stars and their most valuable players. They are the ones who give their all 100% of the time; they represent their companies masterfully, they get customers and retain them, they provide extraordinary ser-vice, they inspire their colleagues to reach heights no one thought attainable. Well, the insurance industry is no different and I’d like to take a few minutes to tell you about that.
The life insurance industry has an organization called the Million Dollar Round Table or MDRT. It is an international organization that was founded in 1927 and it recognizes agents for their commit-ment to excellence, professionalism, outstanding service and the highest ethical standards. In our industry, these are the hallmarks of the all-stars.
“Big deal!” you might say. “What’s so spe-cial about that?” Let me tell you what is so special about membership in the Million Dollar Round Table. Across the industry in a normal year, only about 2% of agents meet the stringent requirements to be-come an MDRT member. We’ve had a great track record at the KofC over the last four or five years where 10 or 11% of our agents qualified for membership. That’s about five times the industry average…pretty impressive!
But last year was anything but normal and we had an anything but normal group qualify for MDRT: 38%, yes, you read correctly, 38% of our field force qualified for membership in this prestig-ious organization. There were only three other companies in the USA that had a higher number of qualifiers, but none came close to our percentage of qualifiers. Imagine that, the KofC beat out some of the biggest names in the industry.
What’s all this mean to you? This kind of re-sult doesn’t come about by accident. It demonstrates the Knights of Columbus com-mitment to give you, our members and your families, a highly trained, qualified and com-mitted financial services professional. My job is to use my skill and knowledge to make sure you understand the issues of protecting your family from the unknown.
Let’s get together soon…and I’ll tell you about my Million Dollar Round Table journey.
Vivat Jesus!
