Pablo Picasso was a Spanish painter and

sculptor. He is best known for founding a style with Georges Braque called

CUBISM.

What is Cubism?

• A form of art where the artist turned natural organic shapes into geometric shapes to create a work of art.

• This form of art was created by Picasso and other abstract artists in Paris during the 20th century.

Cubist Portraits

• Picasso used two different angles when he created a portrait. He used a profile view and a frontal view of the face.

• He always drew a line in the middle to separate the two views.

Profile

• You can only see one eye, one ear, and half of the mouth.

• The nose is sticking off the face with only one nostril showing.

• You can see the outline of the face.

Frontal

• You can see both eyes, both ears, and the whole mouth.

• The nose is in the center of the head and you can see both nostrils.

• You can not see the outline of the face.

Symmetrical Balance: formal balance, perfect equality, visual balance on both sides.
