THOSE WHO SERVE From Pastor Glenn,
What a blessed Advent and Christmas we have had. As a congregation you have so generously
blessed Susan and me and our church staff. Thank you so much for all you mean to us.
New Year As we enter into 2018, we do so with joy and anticipation for what God is going to
do. So much has been accomplished in 2017 in our ministry together and I am expectant for all
that 2018 will bring under Christ’s Lordship.
New Member I want to welcome Wanda Bryant of Carthage who has transferred her member-
ship to First UMC from First UMC, Carthage, N. C. This is her home church where she grew up.
She is the sister of Worth and Charles Hendricks and her address is 576 Joel Road, Carthage, NC
28327. We encourage you to send her a note of welcome back.
New Certified Candidate for Ministry Congratulations to Natalie Gray, our DCE, who was ap-
proved as a Certified Candidate for Ministry on December 18 by the Yadkin Valley District Com-
mittee on Ministry. Natalie is a second year student at Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury.
She will continue meeting annually with the District Committee while in seminary. She and her
husband, Brian, reside in Salisbury.
New Faith-Sharing Training Course I hope you will consider participating in the Caring Evange-
lism course we are offering in the New Year. One begins in January for night sessions and one
begins in February for morning classes. We excel as a church in missions and music. I also think
we have a strong caring and faith-sharing quotient. This course will enhance and deepen our
skills and commitment. If there is any way you can participate, I hope you will. We ask for a $20
donation to defray the cost, but that is not required if it is a problem.
New Confirmation Class Our tentative start date for the 2018 Confirmation Class is Sunday, Jan.
21. It is open to those 6th grade and older who want to explore the basics of our faith and consid-
er joining the church. We will meet on the top level of the Educational Building during the Sun-
day school hour beginning at 9:50am.
New “Every Member in Ministry” Commitment Forms Please turn in your EMIM form as soon
as possible if you haven’t already by mail or by placing in the worship offering plates.
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth. Do you not perceive it?” Isaiah 43:19
What new thing does God want to do in your life and in our church in 2018?
The Staff of FUMC wishes to thank you for the cards and gifts given to us during the holidays! Have a blessed 2018.

From the Desk of Allison Gupton We are excited for all that 2017 brought Ministry 22:6. It’s so exciting to look back on the many blessings of the year and even more exciting to look forward to the new things God has in store for our ministry in 2018. With that being said, After School Care has open en-rollment all school year long, so if things have changed and you need care for your ele-mentary to middle school child, please let us know! We currently serve Mocksville and SDMS. Also, we will begin enrolling for Summer Camp 2018 very soon, so please be sure to be on the look out for that information. Summer Camp is open to children 5 years old to 8th grade. Also, remember we have openings for Friday’s for special guests from the congregation. If you have a special talent, or something you would like to share with our kids, for 30 minutes to an hour, let us know. Thank you so much for your continued sup-port and prayers and we hope you have a VERY HAPPY, HEALTHY and BLESSED 2018! For more information- Allison Gupton- 336-753-1900 or [email protected]

A shipment to the distribution center for
Soles4Souls was made on December 18th thanks
to Greg Bucher and his trucking company and 13
volunteers from the church. Approximately
10,000 pairs of shoes were collected throughout
the year from several churches, individuals, and
Davie Family YMCA. These were to go to the
flood areas. We also received a large quantity
from Lewisville UMC Preschool Shoe Drive and
another large number came from First Lutheran
Church in Greensboro. Thanks go to many from
our church that helped with Soles4Souls through-
out the year.
