God’s mercy was shown to us again and for that we are truly thankful.

The Marion Family

Church Family,

This summer I am blessed to be working at Carolina Cross Connection as Program Coordinator for the summer mission camps. Carolina Cross Connection is a Christian outreach ministry for youth and adults. Youth groups come together from many different areas and churches. The purpose of this organization is to spread the love of Jesus Christ to the larger community through service to people in need. It also provides great opportunities for youth to practice a variety of important skills and brings youth and adults together to form a Christian community that serves God. My job as a Program Coordinator is to set up camp each day for evening worship and any other activities that are at the camp where the youth groups stay. There are 5 different locations where Carolina Cross Connection’s summer service weeks are held. I will be placed at one of these sites for the summer. Another part of my job will be to go out into the community and talk with the families we will be working with as well as other people who may need our services in the future. I am so excited about this summer and really feel God has put it on my heart to be a part of Carolina Cross Connection. This summer half of my salary and a portion of my living expenses are raised through Partnerships. Partners support staff members financially, emotionally, and spiritually. A Partner makes a gift to Carolina Cross Connection toward a staff member’s partnership requirement and commits to praying regularly for that person. This support is so valuable for the organization and without Partnerships this ministry could not exist. Please consider being a Partner this summer to help me and Carolina Cross Connection grow and be able to share God’s love for others. To be a Partner is simple! Any donation is greatly appreciated as well as your prayers! If you feel led to make a donation, checks can be made to Carolina Cross Connection (any gift made is tax-deductible). You may give the check to my parents or me anytime before May 25. There is also a way to make a donation online! You may go to: www.carolinacrossconnection.org and under the “Donate” tab click “Staff Partnerships” then my name is down at the bottom. This will take you to my page to donate!

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call or email me! (336) 577-2995; [email protected]

Your love and encouragement means so much to me and I am so grateful to call you my church family. I cannot thank you enough for the prayers and support for this summer! I know God has great things in store!

God Bless, Grace Williams

Church Friends and Family

I am writing to you because I am excited about an opportunity I have for this summer to share God’s word through service. This summer, I will be a field coordinator for Carolina Cross Connection’s service weeks, and I am beyond excited! Some of the things I will be doing are visiting families to plan service opportunities, coordinating materials for these services that youth and adult work groups will be taking part in, and visiting these worksites throughout the day to lend a hand and to share the word of God. In camp, when not working, I will serve youth groups by leading discussions, devotions, worship services, and being a Christian role model for all campers.

This will be my eighth summer participating in mission work, and I can think of no better way to spend my summer. Because of my staff position, I am being asked to raise $1400 through partnerships for my salary, and to keep camper costs low. As you may know, our youth have participated in service weeks with CCC the last two years, including the college students this past year and again this summer. Any amount you have to donate is appreciated, even a kind word or prayer. Starting this partnership is easy; I have a biography page on Carolina Cross Connection’s website: http://www.carolinacrossconnection.org/wardwilson through which you can use PayPal or a credit card, or you may send a check to Carolina Cross Connection and fill out a short easy form with your information so I may contact you over the summer and let you know how my work is going this summer. Thank you for all the support you have shown me throughout the years, and I am looking forward to partnering with you to spread God’s love to those in need this summer. In Christ, Ward Wilson

MAY HAPPY BIRTHDAYS

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

Shepherding Committee

The Shepherding Committee was designed to provide a meal for the family of a church member who has died. The meal is usually served the day of the funeral and can be served in the family life center, the fellowship hall or in the home if that works best for the family. Several ladies who chair committees have voiced concerns regarding receptions which serve attendees of a funeral or visitation. Due to manpower and financial restraints, the Shepherding Committee will no longer provide food for receptions. Thank you for your understanding.

UMW 2013

Ten new books are on the shelf in the Family Life Center large conference room for the 2013 UMW Reading Program. I know you will find a book you want to read. Remember you can read 2009 through 2013 books for the program. Take a look at Rubble Nation: Haiti’s Pain, Haiti’s Promise, a bonus book that counts for Education toward Mission AND Social Action. Find out what life is like for Haitians 20 months after the earthquake. Or check out Everyday Justice that takes us through everyday life and how our lifestyle choices impact justice worldwide, also an Education for Mission book. T h i s Will Be Remembered of Her is a three fold look at women reshaping the world; women of scripture, women from around the world and stories from religious and folk traditions, a Leadership Development choice. Nurturing for Community is another of the five UMW reading areas. Alone and Invisible No More looks at one Maine physician’s effort to change the eldercare system toward more affordable alternatives and keep older people in their homes and communities. Don’t we all strive for Spiritual Growth? When one mother was confronted with both her sons deployment overseas in 2009, she decided to pray for a complete stranger every day of the year. Look into her story. Praying for Strangers. For further insight into the Spiritual Growth category, try Signs of Life: Back to the Basics of Authentic Christianity, that highlights the marks of a Christian and how we become a person who radiates Jesus’ generosity and compassion every day. Almost everyone likes to read Debbie Macomber. This year, we have a large print copy of One Simple Act: Discovering the Power of Generosity, a story of how giving impacts both the giver and the recipient. You need not be participating in the UMW Reading Program. Anyone is welcome to check out a book. Please take a moment to look at the bookcase in the Family Life Center. You may find a book that will change your life.

The Carillon is given in loving memory of Otis and Lois Hendrix Features of the Verdin Corporation Carillon System

The Sonata Digital Carillon by Verdin has many special features. Contained within the computer “brains” of the Carillon is a library of 325 hymns/songs, 94 different peals and tolls, and one song that is not played by bells. (It is “Taps” played by a bugle.) All sounds are digitally re-corded from real cast bronze bells. Different lists of music include songs for all seasons of the church year including Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, Thanksgiving, weddings, gospel hymns, general hymns, and patriotic songs. The Carillon has been programmed with dates for the begin-ning and ending of each season for 2013. As the seasons change, the Carillon will automatically play random selections from each corresponding list of songs for that season. The season will automatically reset for daylight savings time changes. The system has a battery backup for power outages. Our system will play the Westminster chime on the quarter hour and will chime the ap-propriate number of gongs at the top of the hour (10:00 am - 6:00 pm Monday - Saturday and 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm on Sunday). Hymns will play at noon and 6:00 pm Monday through Saturday and at 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Sunday. A wireless remote control can be used to start or stop the Caril-lon as needed. May this Carillon serve us for many years.
