at gWP Media we get a lot of requests from newly-started businesses to place an ad in our Business directories. often these businesses are a one-man team, their office is still in the process of being fitted out and they are looking for a quick fix to literally jump-start the business into achieving hundreds of leads per month (with little investment on their part).

the defining feature of this scenario is that these businesses almost with a 100% certainty have no professional corporate branding. they want results tomorrow; however their logo was designed by their sister in law with a “good eye” for graphic design and their website was put together by a “computer-wiz nephew”. i’ve handled a lot of business cards and have seen some true shockers.

Unfortunately, most new-start businesses

are looking to save every last penny and very few realise that corporate branding should actually be the first thing in the budget. some business owners spend years getting poor results from their marketing campaigns and fail to realise that the small sum they saved in the very beginning has cost them many, many clients who chose to ignore them just because of substandard presentation.

there are just 3 crucial components that constitute the basis for your corporate brand. they are the logo, business cards and letterheads.

LogoYour logo should be clean, it should catch the eye and it should say exactly what you do. that means that if you’re a dentist, it’s probably a good idea to use the word “dentist” in your logo.

this goes for any business and can do a lot towards removing situations where a potential client looks at your brand and can’t figure out what it is that your business does. Your logo forms the basis for all other marketing materials in your company and getting it correct goes a long way.

Your business cards and letter heads will likely be derived from your logo color scheme and must deliver the image that your company wants to convey.
