14TH ANNUAL First Coast Neonatal Symposium A continuing education program for Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, ARNPs, Physician Assistants, and Physicians working in the world of the neonate. 2010 Joyce Abrames, MSHSA, BSN, RNC is a nurse working for GE Healthcare focusing on product research and education. With over 28 years experience in such varied areas as rural Level I community centers, Labor & Delivery, NICU’s and PICU’s, ground and air transport, she has continued to follow her passion for educating patients, families, and clinicians worldwide. James Cummings, MD is Section Head of the Division of Neonatology at East Carolina University, Greenville, NC. He studied, received his training, and completed his fellowship at SUNY Upstate Medical Center. His special interest is in acute and chronic lung injury. Juanita Davis, APRN, MN, NNP-BC is a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She received her Master’s Degree in Perinatal/Neonatal Nursing with a Minor Degree in Nursing Administration at Emory University. As well as clinical management of patients, she also functions as consultant, teacher, and supervisor. She has been instrumental in implementing peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) programs at many facilities in the Atlanta area. Jill Dorsey, MD is a Pediatric Gastroenterologist at the Nemours Children’s Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. She studied at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. She completed her Fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at the Children’s Hospital of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and eosinophilic esophagitis. William R. Driscoll, DO is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Neonatology at the University of Florida College of Medicine, Jacksonville campus. He studied at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his fellowship at Buffalo Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, New York. His clinical/research interest is in neonatal outcomes. Elizabeth Gyland, MSN, ARNP is the Manager of Wolfson Children’s Hospital Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner Services. She received her Master’s Degree in Nursing and is currently a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Florida, Gainesville. She specializes in Neonatology and Pediatrics, and was instrumental in designing, developing, and training the Baptist Medical Center Kids Kare Pediatric Team. Charla E. Miller, Pharm.D. is the Head of Newborn Intensive Care Pharmacy Services, Department of Pharmacy at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, Baptist Health System, Jacksonville, Florida. She studied at Clemson University and the Medical University of South Carolina. She is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care to the Level III NICU at Wolfson Children’s Hospital and assisted with the development of the Level II NICU at Baptist South. Rees E. Oliver, MD is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Neonatology at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. He studied at the Medical College of Georgia and completed his fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His clinical interest is in routine and complex comprehensive care of children. Mobeen Rathore, MD is Associate Chairman in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Florida College of Medicine, Jacksonville campus. He serves as the Hospital Epidemiologist for Wolfson Children’s Hospital and is Chief of Pediatric Infectious Disease and Immunology. He received his training at King Edward Medical College, Lahore, Pakistan, and completed his fellowships in St. Louis, Missouri. His clinical special interests are in Pediatric HIV and infectious disease in children. Jacqueline Jones Wessel, MEd, RD is a Neonatal Nutritionist at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio. She is an American Dietetic Association Board Certified Pediatric Specialist. She studied at the University of Cincinnati. She is also a Certified Lactation Educator, receiving her training at the University of California at Los Angeles. Her interest is in nutritional support for high risk infants and children. Wendy D. White, RN, BSN, MSN, WOCN currently works as the Pediatric Wound Care Specialist at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. She previously was a NICU nurse at Wolfson for over 20 years. She also is involved with the Children’s Miracle Network. John Wilgis, MBA, RRT is Director for Emergency Management Services for the Florida Hospital Association. A licensed Respiratory Therapist specializing in Adult and Neonatal ICU, and hospital administration, he is a Past-President of the Florida Society for Respiratory Care. He received his degrees in Health Care Services and in Health Care Management from the University of Phoenix. He currently works with the Florida Department of Health as hospital liaison for Public Health and Medical Preparedness and serves as co-lead to the Hospital Surge Capability Team.
