All students grades 9-11 will take the PSAT onWednesday, October 16th. Please encourageyour child to demonstrate great effort on thePSAT, because a qualifying PSAT score can makestudents eligible for scholarships and for NationalMerit recognition. Please note that October 16this also an early release day for students.

AP Students and ParentsAP Students and Parents

Due to changes in College Board policies, APExams are now ordered in OCTOBER as opposedto MARCH. The registration process requires thateach student create a College Board accountand enter the appropriate access codes for eachAP course in which they are enrolled.

Parents, please check with your student andconfirm that he or she has taken the requiredsteps in order to register for the AP Exams. Ourgoal is to have all AP students registered by thisFriday, October 4.

Also, please note that the College Board nowcharges a $40 cancellation fee if a studentregisters for an AP exam but does not take theexam. Should this occur, the student will berequired to pay the $40 cancellation fee.

The Buford CitySchool System will be utilizing Childhelp SpeakUp Be Safe as a resource to comply with thisstate requirement. Your child’s 9th GradeSchool Counselor will provide information fromChildhelp Speak Up Be Safe to teach the skillsneeded to identify unsafe situations andprevent or interrupt cycles of neglect, bullyingand abuse. Mrs. Adam will be delivering the Speak Up BeSafe curriculum on child abuse prevention perState Bill 401 to 9th grade students mid-October. Mrs. Sutton is continuing presentationsthrough 2nd year CTAE classes deliveringinformation from the Signs of SuicideCurriculum. Ms. Palmer is meeting with juniors inpreparation for senior year, including guidanceon college entrance exams (SAT, ACT,Accuplacer). Ms. Bradshaw is continuing individual studentsenior meetings and classroom guidanceregarding graduation status and postsecondaryoptions. Senior parents – the Free Application forFederal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now availableto complete online at fafsa.ed.govfafsa.ed.gov .Resources to complete the FAFSA can befound on Mrs. Bradshaw’s website. On October 15th, Buford High School will beconducting a variety of career activit ies. Allstudents will be participating in classroomactivit ies through their GA Futures accounts inthe Georgia Career Information System(GCIS). Additionally, juniors and seniors will beattending a Career Fair in the gym, which willinclude speakers on technical collegeopportunities and 4-year college admissions.Freshman and sophomores will attend a guestspeaker activity.
