I have a lot of things to do. I have a lot of work to do.
Do you have many things to do? Do you have much work to do?
No, I don’t have many things to do. No, I don’t have much work to do.
Much en many betekenen allebei veel.
Je gebruik much en many alleen bij vragen en ontkennende zinnen.
Bij positieve zinnen gebruik je a lot of.
much, many, (a) little, (a) fewveel, veel, weinig, weinig
Much en many betekenen allebei veel.
Je gebruik much en many alleen bij vragen en ontkennende zinnen.
Bij positieve zinnen gebruik je a lot of: He has a lot of clothes.
Toch is er een verschil tussen much en many.
Much gebruik je alleen voor ontelbare zelfstandige naamwoorden; milk,
energy, snow, money, air, grass, etc.
I haven’t got much money.
I haven’t got many euros.
I have a lot of money/euros. (zie je het verschil?)
much, many, (a) little, (a) fewveel, veel, weinig, weinig
Dezelfde regel geldt voor het Engelse woord weinig. Ook
twee varianten voor ontelbare en telbare zelfstandige
naamwoorden: little en few.
deze heeft
He has little money left.Hij heeft weinig geld over.
uncountable
There are very few chairs left.Er zijn heel weinig stoelen over.
countable
Little en few betekenen dus allebei weinig.a little en a few betekenen weer iets heel anders...
much, many, (a) little, (a)veel, veel, weinig, weinig
few
a few > few
We gebruiken a few/few bij telbare zelfstandige naamwoorden.
a few = positiefFortunately, our financial situation is good: we still have a few good customers.
few = negatief (= bijna geen)I'm very sad: I have few good friends./ I'm very sad: I have very few good friends.
NIET LEREN:a few en few hebben onregelmatige vergrotende en overtreffende trappen.
