Most Holy Trinity June 10 & 11, 2017

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK —JUNE 11, 2017

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION: June 11, 2017-Most Holy Trinity “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son…” JOHN 3:16. Is your love conditional? Is there a price others have to pay to receive your love? Are you generous with your time, money and possessions? If you give someone something, do you ex-pect something in return? Do you give your time freely or do you “fit it in” when it’s convenient for you? Pray for a grateful and generous heart. WORD OF LIFE: June 11th “Families are images of the ever-creative power and life of the Holy Trinity and the fruitfulness of the relation-ship between Christ and his Church.” — USCCB, United States Catholic Catechism for Adults, pg 409. www.goo.gl/ny5A1G.

Everyone is encouraged to read the entire bulletin. There may be some information or events that you could be interested in any of the sections of this bulletin. Thank you! Please submit all bulletin announcements by Monday of every week for the upcoming weekend. You can mail it to the parish office or email to: [email protected].

June Jamboree: Because I am leaving on retreat the day of the Jamboree and must have this column prepared before I leave I am going to look into my crystal ball and see a successful and profitable event. I am seeing this because I have watched all the effort that was put into the planning months in advance. I know there are a number of new things this year and I’m hoping all was implemented smoothly. And repeating what I said last week: “We all owe a debt of gratitude to the Jamboree Committee and all who gave so selflessly of their time to make it all happen. Thanks also to all who donated raffle gifts and prizes.” May God reward your goodness and may we grow closer together as a parish family through our shared work and prayer. Polish Festival at St. Stan’s – August 20: Pierogi making is in full swing. Many volunteers are needed to keep this tradition going. When I went to check out the operation last Wednesday I was amazed and the speed and coordination and care with which things were done. The pierogi are one of the main features of the event. It is work, true, but everyone seemed to be having fun at the same time. Be generous in volunteering, even if you have not done so before. Everyone can contribute in some way. Fatima Centennial: I mentioned in May that I was planning to devote some time each month: May – October during this centennial year to review what took place during this memorable event when heaven and earth came together. With the exception of the August Our Lady appeared to the children: Lucia dos Santos and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto on the 13th of the month at midday. Countless lives have been and can still be changed through the love revealed in the Immaculate Heart of Mary. (The liturgical feast this year is June 24.) The sufferings of which Our Lady spoke and to which the children consented on May 13th were not long in coming. Lucia’s mother reacted negatively to the news that was

spreading. She thought the visions were concocted by the children and repeatedly tried to get her daughter to retract the story. The children and their families would suffer at the hands of unbelievers too. Some ridiculed them; others threw stones; others trampled the grasses in the meadow where the apparitions took place resulting in the sale of the sheep. Many of their sacrifices were involuntary; many were voluntary. They often gave their lunches to the sheep or to poorer children. They would offer their thirst in the hot afternoon sun for the conversion of sinners. June 13th was the Feast of St. Anthony and a day of great festivity on Fatima. The children excused themselves and went to the Cova at the appointed hour. About 50 people were already there. When the children finished the Rosary a flash of light heralded Our Lady’s approach. She said to Lucia, “I wish you to come here on the 13th of next month, to pray the rosary every day and to learn to read. Later I will tell you what I want.” Because of the ridicule they had endured Lucia asked that they be taken to heaven. The Lady responded, “Yes. I will take Jacinta and Francisco soon. But you are to stay here some time longer. Jesus wishes to make use of you to make me known and loved. He wants to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart.” Our Lady spoke the most tender words to Lucia and to all who entrust themselves to her motherly care. “Don’t lose heart. I will never forsake you. My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that will lead you to God.” In the June apparition the Divine intention became clearer. The request that the rosary be prayed daily was repeated. Jesus’ desire that devotion to the Immaculate Heart be fostered and spread was revealed. Both of these aspects of the Fatima message will be explored in subsequent articles. Have you prayed the rosary today? Have you sacrificed to save sinners from Hell or to assist the souls in Purgatory?

Information “HOT SPOT”

History: The Provincial Chapter of the Augustinian Recollects sent four young men to Villanova College in Philadelphia to study and learn the language and customs so that they would be able to successfully establish the order in the U.S. Three of the four were ordained to the Priesthood; Gabriel Salinas, Thomas Janices and Nicholas Zabalza. On the 21st of June, 2017 Fr. Salinas and Fr. Fernandez (and perhaps Fr. Janices and Fr. Zabalza with them) came to Omaha to discuss establishing a parish at the invitation of Archbishop Jeremiah Hardy who knew of the Augustinians work in the Philippine Islands. They were warmly welcomed by the Priests of the Archdiocese and were invited to stay with the Franciscan Fathers of St. Joseph’s Church until they could establish a place of their own. Archbishop Hardy told them he was about to establish three new parishes and they should look them over and tell him which of the three they wanted. The three parishes were Holy Name, St. Margaret Mary’s and Holy Ghost. (To be continued…)

Parish Memories: Last week we had another in a long line of successful June Jamborees. One Jamboree memory reminded me of when God sent 10 plagues to help convince the Pharaoh to “let my people go”. At June Jamboree 2013 we had what looked like the “11th plague”. Early in the afternoon the Jamboree suddenly filled with MILLIONS of gnats. People were swatting and scurrying everywhere to get away from them. Turns out that God hadn’t sent the 11TH plague to Holy Ghost that day but an innocent neighbor decided to mow some very high weeds just south of the Holy Ghost parking lot and stirred them up. (ANYBODY KNOW THE DATE OF THE FIRST JUNE JAMBOREE?
