First Reading Ex 34:4b-6, 8-9
A reading from the Book of Exodus
The Lord, the Lord, a merciful and gracious God.
Early in the morning Moses went up Mount Sinai as the Lord had
commanded him, taking along the two
stone tablets.
Having come down in a cloud, the Lord stood with Moses there and proclaimed his
name, “Lord.” Thus the Lord passed
before him and cried out, “The Lord, the Lord, a
merciful and gracious God,
slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity.”
Moses at once bowed down to the ground in worship.
Then he said, “If I find favor with you, O Lord, do come along in our
company.
This is indeed a stiff-necked people; yet pardon our wickedness and sins, and receive us as your
own.”
Second Reading 2 Cor 13:11-13
A reading from second Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians
The grace of Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.
Brothers and sisters, rejoice. Mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another,
live in peace, and the God of love and
peace will be with you.
Greet one another with a holy kiss.
All the holy ones greet you.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the
Holy Spirit be with all of you.
Gospel Jn 3:16-18
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John
God sent his Son, that the world might be saved through him.
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who
believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might
be saved through him.
Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not
believe has already been condemned,
because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

MATERIALS AND HELP NEEDED
Dear Father Bert and Parishioners of Holy Name of Jesus Church, I write this note to express my sincere grati-tude to you for your prayers, cards and greet-ings, which you have sent me since my surgery in February. The operation turned out to be more complicated than expected. It has taken
over two months just for the incisions to heal. Internal abdomi-nal healing continues slowly but surely. I very much appreciate receiving weekly Church bulletins and news about the ways Father Bert and the Staff and Parishioners dedicate themselves to communicate prayer and liturgy through the internet and Facebook. The Church remains the Body of Christ in difficult times. God bless you all. My thoughts and prayers remain with you each day. Sincerely yours, Msgr. J. James Cuneo

“I sing because I'm happy… His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me”
From the hymn His Eye Is On the Sparrow lyrics by Civilla Durfee Martin
Many of you may have heard by now that I will be relocating to North Carolina at the end of June. It is with bittersweet emotions that my husband, Ralph, and I begin the next chapter in our story. We leave our son and his wife, other extended family, many friends and our church family, to be near my mother, 2 sisters, niece, nephews and Ralph’s sister. I spent my teenage years in North Carolina. It is where I learned to sing and where my love of Jesus, church and church music was nurtured. My bittersweet feelings are magnified as I won’t be able to see many of you before I leave due to the pandemic. However, as I sat down to write this letter, lyrics of a favorite hymn came to mind: “I sing because I'm happy, I sing because I’m free, His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me”. I would say that these lyrics, inspired directly from the Gospel of Matthew (chapter 6 and 10), are the theme of my life.
I LOVE to sing. I’ve always felt called to sing in church. While I’ve enjoyed singing in other venues, Church music touches me in a way like no other genre. Even when I’m not actively singing in church, there is always a melody in my head. When I am going through a difficult time, nothing settles me more than expressing the love of God and the care He gives all of us through the hymns we sing at Mass. The Gospel of Matthew says that God’s eye is on the sparrow. If He cares for something so small as a sparrow, feeding them, knowing when they’ve fallen to the ground, oh, how He must care for us! He wants to free us from our burdens. We are free! He cares for us!
I feel extremely blessed to have been a part of Holy Name of Jesus Church Music Ministry for the last 24 years and 9 months. I feel honored to have been a part of your weddings. I have mourned, cried and prayed for your loved ones while serving as cantor at their celebrations of life. I’ve rejoiced at all the First Communions and Confirmations I’ve had the privilege to attend and participate through song. I’ve so enjoyed being the choir director for our parish youth and organizer of our annual Christmas Pageant. These last two years with the Adult Choir have been most rewarding. What a joy it has been to see these ministries grow throughout the years. Thank you for accepting me as part of your parish and inviting me to stay on to serve through song.
This is not good-bye, merely so long for now. We plan to come back for a visit in October. I look forward to hearing about how these ministries continue to thrive and l look forward to participating on my trips back to Stratford. Please keep me in your prayers and I will keep you in mine. As I end this letter the lyrics to another one of my favorite prayers comes to mind:
“May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your field.
And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”

Holy Name of Jesus
“God so loved the world... ” Today's gospel tells us of the awesome extent of God's love for us and God's promise of eternal life. The gospel echoes the first reading in which God tells Moses he is a loving God, slow to anger. These readings give us some clues about the Holy Trinity and the love of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for all of us.
Years ago I taught a parish-based catechetics class for children school. I started by trying to work out how much the children knew about the basics. I asked, “When we make the sign of the cross, what do we say?” “Father, Son and Holy Spirit” came the firm reply. So far so good! I tried upping the bar. “What do we call the Father, Son and Holy Spirit?” There was complete silence. I tried another track. “What do you think of when you make the Sign of the Cross?” There was an awkward silence and then a bright little boy cheerily said, “The old man, the young fella, and the bird!”
