Their term of appointment expires on 29th September 2016. As per 11(v) of the Bye-laws of the

Foundation read with Section 15(5) of the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 1975, they are

eligible for reappointment to the Board of Management. They have offered themselves for

reappointment.

As per bye laws of the Foundation 10(d) Mr. Raju Barwale being the nominee member of the M/s

Keligavan Investment and Trading Private Limited is automatically entitled to be re-elected on

completion of three years.

As per bye laws of the Foundation 10(d) Mr. Jagdish M. Chanrai being the nominee member of the

M/s Jaslok Hospital and Research Center is automatically entitled to be re-elected on completion

I have great pleasure in presenting the 38th Annual Report of the Medical Research Foundation.

FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE

The financial performance of the Foundation for the year 2015-16 is summarized below:

The Hospital Collection this year was higher by Rs.1514 lakhs compared to 2014-2015 with an

increase of 10%. After meeting all the expenses including depreciation Net Income over

Expenditure was Rs.2474 lakhs compared to the Net Income over Expenditure of Rs.1028 lakhs of

2014-15.

Donations Donations received during the year amounted to Rs.1091 lakhs. The corresponding figures for 2014-15 were

Rs.1945 lakhs. Out of total Donations, donation received towards corpus during the year amounted to Rs. 136

lakhs, towards projects A Sivasilam Block Rs.280 lakhs and other donations during the year amounted to

Rs. 675 lakhs.

Fixed AssetsAdditions amount to Rs.379 lakhs which Equipments for updating of technology and replacements. Rs.2515

lakhs spent towards new project in SN Chennai and SN Kolkata.

DESCRIPTION NUMBERS

Treatment of Poor PatientsThe number of free surgeries in the FY 2015-16 was 19107 against 18531in FY 2014-15. Number of free surgeries as a percentage of total surgeries done was 35%in the FY 2015-16 as well as in the FY 2014-15. The revenue foregone through free services and waiver / concessions amounts to Rs.3560 Lakhs. Last year the corresponding amount was Rs.3267 lakhs.

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES

The Details of Corneal Transplant services during the period April 2015 – March 2016 are as follows:

1. Total Number of eyes Collected: 1251 numbers

2. Total Number of Corneal Transplant surgeries performed: 624 No's

3. Amount Received from Reliance Dhristi Project towards performance of free corneal transplant: Rs. 5,58,000 (Rs. Five Lakh and fifty eight Thousand only)

PRABHA ENDOWMENT

Ms. Prabha, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of M/s Petro Star Corporation LLC,had donated Rs. 50 lakhs last year to create a Corpus for treatment of patients suffering from Ocular surface Disease. This corpus fund is being maintained as a separate fund named as “Prabha Endowment Fund.”This year 16 patients have been benefited through this endowment and an amount of Rs. 5.00 lakhs has been utilised towards treatment costs for the said patients.

QUALITY INITIATIVES

Sankara Nethralaya MAIN Campus:

· All patient complaints are analyzed every week and taken up to the concerned Head of the Department

· Staff of SN appreciated by the patient are acknowledged in the SN portal & an email is sent to respective staff appreciating the dedicated service

· Latest 4th edition of NABH standards are under the process of implementation

· NABH core team is formed to implement the new standards and training is under process

· Quality indicators are revised and benchmarks are evaluated for few Departments

H T Parekh Campus:

· Surveillance audit is expected in September

· Latest 4th edition of NABH standards are under the process of implementation

CU SHAH Sankara Nethralaya (CUSSN):

· Implemented latest SHCO 2nd Ed Standards of NABH.

Navasuja Sankara Nethralaya (NSN):

IT & Systems

IT is now a strategic part of the SN operations. Various initiatives had been launched to maximize the impact of IT for day to day operations and also for improved patient care.

Newer modules had been developed to support MESU and Telemedicine.

Billing services now include patients covered under CGHS

Intelligent alerts built to track for special precaution patients to enable relevant support for surgery scheduling and related services

Automated alerts through SMS for patients for various transactions and activities from HMS/ EMR

Enabling patients to fill up personal details online for faster admission process

Sustained enhancements to EMR to improve ease of use and functional enhancements.

Enhancements to reporting capabilities for improved decision making

FUND RAISING ACTIVITIES

V.G.P. Ravidas and fellow Rotarians present the proceeds of the 'Terry Fox Run' to Dr. Vikas Khetan towards supporting research in Retinoblastoma

A large gathering assembled at the IIT-Madras campus for the 'Terry Fox Run'

From an IT infrastructure perspective continued to modernize the solution architecture which enables and guarantees better security & predictability of our digital assets.

The implementation of Ophthalmic EMR has been well accepted across the country. With new implementations at Lotus Eye Hospital and additions to Eye Q Hospitals now the total installations across the country is at 102 and many of them are the tier 2 and tier 3 towns / locations, which speaks volumes of the maturity of the processes and its universal acceptability across the users.

The Terry Fox Foundation the Canada based body espousing the cause of its illustrious champion

against cancer, Terrance Stanley Fox conducts the 'Terry fox Run- A Marathon of hope' the world

over to raise funds for cancer research and treatment. This year the Terry Fox Run proceeds were

handed over to Dr. S. S. Badrinath, Chairman Emeritus by Shri. V. G. P. Ravidas, President and Shri

Badrinarayanan, Chairman, Rotary Club of Madras East. Expressing his sincere thanks

Dr. S. S. Badrinath mentioned that researchers are hopeful of identifying critical biomarkers for

early diagnosis of retinoblastoma.

Sankara Nethralaya employees create awareness on retinoblastoma at the Terry Fox Run

The House of GRT and its founder Shri G. Rajendran have been long time friends and supporters of

Sankara Nethralaya. The leading jeweler joined hands with the local chapters of Lions Club, Rotary

Club, Catholic Society of Canada and the Tiruvallur District Blindness Control Society and Sankara

Nethralaya to conduct a comprehensive eye screening/surgical camp deploying the Mobile Eye

Surgical Unit (MESU). A total of 796 local people were screened and high quality cataract removal

surgery, followed by implantation of intra-ocular lens was carried out and vision was revived for

155 patients.

Delivering the Chief Guest's address during the valedictory function, Shri K.Veera Raghava Rao,

IAS, Collector of Tiruvallur observed that he considered it an honour to be a part of such a noble

initiative and thanked the organizers for the same.

Mobile Eye Surgical Unit Camp at Tiruttani sponsored by the house of GRT

Life and achievements of a long time friend of Sankara Nethralaya, dynamic SN OM Trustee Mr. Sam

Kannappan and wife were chronicled into Houston's glorious history by Texas based 'The Foundation

For India studies' (FIS) dedicated to the objective of highlighting and promoting India's contribution to

the world in the field of languages, literature, arts, sciences, engineering, politics, economics and

spirituality. Shri Sam Kannappan and his wife Shrimathi Kannappan among the most prominent,

versatile and multifaceted early Indian settlers with a glorious record of contributing both to their

motherland and their country of adoption and to fellow American Indians were interviewed as part of

this project.

The Department of Human Resource believes in boosting the morale of the employees with its effective and competent organizational practices, thereby maximizing employee performance levels and efficiency in the Institution. Through its employee engagement and welfare programs, the department has constantly been motivating and enriching the employee's career progress. The employees are also encouraged to go for higher studies and increase their personal efficiency. Sankara Nethralaya has always believed in recognizing the performance of employees through its Recognition programs. The best Man & Woman employee of the year, the best Department and the Outstanding performers in each department are chosen and rewarded at the Independence Day celebrations held every year. Hard work and dedication of employees is also recognised by honouring the number of years of service in Sankara Nethralaya.

The Multimedia Department was adjudged the Best Department of Sankara Nethralaya for the year

2015. The CU Shah Sankara Nethralaya team was chosen for a special award of recognition for

exceptional performance in the year 2015.

When devastating floods hit Chennai in December 2015, the Management of SN came forward to

help the employees by rendering monetary assistance.

Employee Satisfaction Surveys were conducted to understand employee morale and job

satisfaction levels across all departments of SN.

Academically brilliant children of our employees were given merit awards on Republic Day occasion

to further motivate them.

To engage employees, Sankara Nethralaya organized the 20th In-House Cricket match for Dipankar

Chatterjee cup which saw huge participation from the employees' side. The SN family celebrated

the Foundation Day, Republic Day, Sports Day & the International Women's Day with all joy and

enthusiasm. Doctor's Day was also celebrated with great fervour and to mark their special day, gifts

were distributed to all the doctors at SN.

Awards and Recognition to our President & Chairman Emeritus Dr. S. S. Badrinath

Dr. S. S. Badrinath was honored with an Award for completing Platinum Anniversary -75 years of

his glorious life, “Celebration Retina - Celebration Life 2015" at a Conference held at the

Sahara Star Mumbai and Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital in Mumbai between from 15th to 17th of May

2015

Dr. S. S. Badrinath received IIRSI Gold Medal at ITC Grand Chola, Chennai on 4th July 2015

Dr. S. S. Badrinath received Ambassador Goodwill Award by Lions International held in Chennai

on 8th November 2015

Sankara Nethralaya's service at Tirupati through Sri Srinivasa Sankara Nethralaya

The Sri Srinivasa Sankara Nethralaya (SSSN) which was established in the year 2009 by Sri Srinivasa

Sankara Nethralaya Trust by Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam (TTD). This centre has screened more

than 11124 new patients and has performed 1659 cataract surgeries during the financial year 2015 -

16. (FY 2014 -15: 10941 new patients and 2210 surgeries). The Tulsi Trust is also playing a major role

in mobilizing patients for free cataract surgeries at SSSN. Sankara Nethralaya is also exploring the

possibilities of expanding the services offered at SSSN in the near future, with support from TTD.

ABOUT OTHER CENTRES OF SANKARA NETHRALAYA

1. Project at Rajarhat, Kolkata: Construction work at our Rajarhat project is at closing stages and we expect the building to be

complete in all aspects and expected to be fully operational from December 2016. We hope

with this additional facility in place, we would be able to meet the ever growing demand for

our services in the eastern region.

2. Aditya Birla Sankara Nethralaya, Kolkata:Aditya Birla Sankara Nethralaya has more strides in reaching out the remotest corners of West

Bengal through its community outreach programmes and the team at ABSN is putting their best

to meet the ever growing demand for our services. This centre has screened more than 77309

new patients and has performed 10170 surgeries during the financial year 2015 -16. (FY 2014 -

15: 76842 new patients and 9678 surgeries). With regard to community surgeries, the center

has performed 3300 free surgeries for FY 2015-16 against 3285 surgeries during FY 2014-15.

3. Sankara Nethralaya, Rameshwaram: The services offered by Sankara Nethralaya's center Rameshwaram has been discontinued

since 31.01.2016 due to poor patronage and other reasons.

4. Sankara Nethralaya, Sricity: Sri City has come forward to lease 10 acres of land at a nominal rate of lease rent each year, to

Sankara Nethralaya, to set up an eye hospital and research centre. The first tranche of 5 acres

was registered on 19th February 2016

Sankara Nethralaya has reached its milestone when it opened its branch at Sricity, and

integrated business township situated 65 KM North of Chennai on the Kolkata National

Highway. This center was formally inaugurated on 14th April 2013. This center has provided

services to more than 5368 patients and has performed more than 180 cataract surgeries

during the financial year 2015-16.

CONCLUSIONThe Foundation has recorded one of its peak performances with the net surplus increasing by 2 ½

times and the total income by 20%. The year also saw completion of the Sri. A. Sivasailam block in

Chennai and commencing regular operation. The hospital at Rajarhat is almost ready and likely to

come into operation soon. Another large project at Thane has also been conceived and

Government of Maharashtra/Thane Municipal Corporation has allotted the land on a token lease

rent for establishment of a State of Art Eye Care / Academic Centre. Preparations are underway to

prepare the blueprint for the hospital and get the approval of the Thane Municipal Corporation.

The building of the buses and other vehicles for the Mobile Eye Surgery Unit Project at Jharkhand,

supported by the Navajbai Ratan Tata Trust, is progressing as per schedule. The launch of this

project is scheduled for July 2016.

Sankara Nethralaya is continuously reinforcing its position as a premier institution in quality eye

care. As emphasized by the Founder Visionary, Dr. S. S. Badrinath, Nethralaya is growing on all the 4

focus areas of Ophthalmic Care, Free Treatment to poor patients and Teaching, Training and

Fundamental Research. VRF also has performed creditably during the year with more publications

to their credit in premier journals and getting into lot of collaborative joint research programmes

with premier organizations in India and abroad.

The SN Academy will play a significant role in the coming years and will turn out significant number

NABH final audit of CU Shah Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai took place in March 2016. The auditors

found no major non-conformities and have recommended for NABH Accreditation. The certificate

is expected to be received in July 2016. Both the Main Campus and JKCN campus in Chennai are

already NABH Accredited.

Threats & ConcernsOver the last few years, the Institution faced continuous threats of competition in the anterior

segment and due to consistent efforts now the situation is slowly improving and the capacity

utilization of our State of Art facilities are also improving. The compensation package of employees

and consultants were also revised to encourage them to continue the good work and to be on par

with the opportunities available elsewhere. Sankara Nethralaya's standards of eye care delivery

have been accredited with a NABH certification and international recognition. Under the above

scenario of severe competition, we have managed to update with newer equipments& techniques

and increased the expend for research & training.

New Projects

Human Relations

On invitation from the Municipal Commission, Thane, Maharashtra, Dr. S. S. Badrinath visited

Thane. The Municipal Commission has come forward to lease 2 acres of land in Thane for building

Sankara Nethralaya Eye Hospital including a teaching and training centre. During his visit, the

Memorandum of Understanding for leasing of the land has been signed. Our team headed by our

Advisor Projects, Lt. Col. Raghavan and working on the building plan and will be sending the plan

for approval to the Thane Municipal Commission

The buses and vehicles for the Mobile Eye Surgery Project, Jharkhand, is under construction. This

project is being supported by the Navajbai Ratan Tata Trust. Doctors and paramedical staff have

been recruited for the project and are currently undergoing training at Chennai. Tata Steel,

Jamshedpur is helping Sankara Nethralaya will setting up a base hospital / office in Jamshedpur

and will also be supporting in identifying the camp locations. The project is expected to be

inaugurated in July 2016.

The Founder, Dr. S. S. Badrinath and Dr. Vasanthi Badrinath are the real force behind this great

Institution, continuously guiding and monitoring the progress of the Institution in every sphere.

Their concerted actions in the continuous development of Consultants and their professional

management style with succession plans have started yielding results. The Vice Chairman,

Dr. T. S. Surendran, Medical Directors/Senior Consultants Dr. Prema Padmanabhan, Dr. Tarun

Sharma, Dr. Pramod Bhende and Dr. L. Vijaya, Dr. J. Biswas all share a common vision as that of the

Founder, Dr. S. S. Badrinath, which helps to continue the successful functioning of the

Organization.

Quality administrative support is provided by Dr. K. S. Vasan, ably assisted by Ms. Akila Ganesan,

Senior General Manager and Ms. Susila Girisan, DGM – Finance. Mr. V. Vaidyanathan, Board Member

continues to render his expert guidance to ensure the smooth functioning of the organization.

Our entire para medical and administrative staffs are an important link between the patients and

the institution. They ensure the smooth functioning of the Organization. Regular training classes

are being held to some of these groups.

I record with gratitude the support of the dedicated Board of Management who despite their other

priorities have always come forward to advise the Institution whenever needed even at very short

notices.

Our auditors, since the beginning of this institution, M/s S. Viswanathan, LLP are carrying out their

assignment as a service to a non-for-profit organization for a token compensation. I record with

appreciation the personal involvement of the partners Mr. C. N. Ramachandran and Mr. Chella

Srinivasan. The internal auditors Mr. S. A. Bhatt are also very dedicated in their service to us. I

thank them for their personal involvement in our case.

Nethralaya. Their contributions to the welfare of indigent patients treated at Nethralaya are

Management is responsible for the preparation and presentation of these financial statements that give a true and fair view of the financial position, financial performance of the trust in accordance with the Accounting Standards. This responsibility includes the maintenance of adequate accounting records in accordance with the provisions of the Act for safeguarding the assets of the trust and for preventing and detecting frauds and other irregularities; selection and application of appropriate accounting policies; making judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; and design, implementation and maintenance of adequate internal financial controls, that were operating effectively for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the accounting records, relevant to the preparation and presentation of the financial statements that give a true and fair view and are free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error.

Auditor's Responsibility Our responsibility is to express an opinion on these financial statements based on our audit.We conducted our audit in accordance with the Standards on Auditing issued by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) .Those Standards require that we comply with ethical requirements and plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements are free from material misstatement.

An audit involves performing procedures to obtain audit evidence about the amounts and the disclosures in the financial statements. The procedures selected depend on the auditor's judgment, including the assessment of the risks of material misstatement of the financial statements, whether due to fraud or error. In making those risk assessments, the auditor considers internal control relevant to the Trust's preparation and fair presentation of the financial statements in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on whether the trust has in place an adequate internal controls system over financial reporting and operating effectiveness of such controls.An audit also includes evaluating the appropriateness of the accounting policies used and the reasonableness of the accounting estimates made by the management, as well as evaluating the overall presentation of the financial statements.

We believe that the audit evidence we have obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our audit opinion.

Opinion In our opinion and to the best of our information and according to the explanations given to us, the financial statements give the information required by the Act in the manner so required and give a true and fair view in conformity with the accounting principles generally accepted in India.

NOTES FORMING PART OF ACCOUNTS FOR THE FINANCIAL YEAR ENDED 31.03.2016

I. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

1. The Foundation follows mercantile system of accounting and recognizes Income and

Expenditure on accrual basis.

2. Financial Statements are prepared under historical cost convention.

3. The Fixed Assets of the Foundation are valued at cost less depreciation.

4. Inventories have been valued at Cost.

5. The Foundation's contribution to various schemes of retirement benefits such as Provident

Fund and Superannuation Fund are charged to the Income and Expenditure Account every

year.

6. The expenditure on unavailed leave of employees allowed to be encashed by them as per

rules of the foundation.

7. Gratuity and Leave Encashment provision have been created on the basis of actuarial

valuation.

8. Donation and Grants received towards Capital Purchases are accounted under Capital

Fund.

9. Donations received for Community Services accounted under Income Statement.

II. Schedules I to VI of the Balance Sheet and Schedules VII to X of the Income and Expenditure

Account form an integral part of the Balance Sheet.

III. Previous year figures have been regrouped wherever necessary to conform to current year's

classification.

Dr. K Padma Lakshmi won the “Divya Chaturvedi Gold Medal award” for her outstanding performance on the paper “Sub-speciality of Uveitis and Inflammatory Diseases”, in the DNB examinations held in April 2015.

Dr. L. Dhanurekha was awarded Ph.D degree at BITS Pilani on 16th May 2015 for the thesis entitled, Phenotypic and Genotypic methods for Rapid Detection and Drug (First and Second line) Resistance of Tuberculosis”

Dr. Iyer Gomathy Narayanan was awarded the Ph.D degree at BITS Pilani 18th May 2015 for the thesis entitled, “Design & Development of small molecule inhibitors Targeting Copper Transporter1 in Copper Mediated Angiogenesis”

Dr S S Badrinath was honored with an Award for completing Platinum Anniversary -75 years of his glorious life, “Celebration Retina - Celebration Life 2015´ at a Conference held at the Sahara Star Mumbai and Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital in Mumbai between from 15th to 17th of May 2015.

Dr. T. S. Surendran and Dr. Tarun Sharma gave a speech on blindness at a book release function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The President of India, Shri. Pranab Mukherjee released “Yogikasparsh” - a yoga manual in Braille written by Mrs. Nivedita Joshi.

Ms. V. Nalini was awarded Ph.D degree at BITS Pilani on 26th June 2015 for the thesis entitled, “Experimental Evaluation of Molecular Targets for the Clinical management of Ocular Cancers (Retinoblastoma and Uveal Melanoma)”.

Dr S. S. Badrinath was presented a Gold Medal for his contribution to ophthalmology, by the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr C Vijaya Baskar at the Annual Convention Inaugural Meeting of the Indian Intraocular Implant and Refractive Society, India (IIRSI) at ITC Grand Chola, Chennai on 4th July 2015.

Ms S. Srilekha received the Travel Fellowship for attending the 22nd Annual Meeting of Indian Eye Research Group (IERG) ARVO Conference held at L.V.Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) Hyderabad from 25th to 26th July 2015.

Dr Vathsalya Vijay received the “Best Paper Award” for “Combined Radiological and Surgical Intervention for Peri-orbital AV Malformation” at the Curbside Clinix CME held at Narayana Nethralaya, Bangalore, on 9th August 2015

Dr. J Biswas was elected as the President of the Inflammation Society of India on 22nd August 2015 at the annual meeting held in ChanRe Rheumatology and Immunology Center and Research, Bangalore.

The Terry Fox Foundation at IIT Madras conducted the “Terry Fox Run – A Marathon of Hope” on 23rd August 2015 to raise funds for cancer research and Vision Research Foundation was chosen as the beneficiary of its assistance for the year 2015.

Dr. J. Biswas received Prof. E. T. Selvam Oration Award at Regional Institute of Ophthalmology & Government Ophthalmic Hospital, Chennai on 23rd September 2015.

Mr R. N. Naresh Kumar and Ms. Gayathree K attended the 3rd International Conference in Angiogenesis: Techniques and Therapeutics held at Sastra University, Thanjavur on 23rd and 24th September 2015. Ms. Gayathree received the Best Poster Award for “Hyperglycemia induces early growth response-1 (EGR1) in human diabetic retina mediating abnormal vascular changes in diabetic retinopathy” and Mr R. N. Naresh Kumar's paper entitled “Lysyl oxidase propeptide (LOX-PP) inhibits VEGF mediated angiogenesis by down-regulating FAK signalling” was selected for oral presentation under the Young scientist category and he received a shield.

Ms. M. K. Janani & Ms. M. Vimalin Jayalatha participated in the IAMM Conference in Clinical Microbiology ARISE – 2015 held at SRM University, Chennai, on the 28th September 2015. Ms. Janani won the First Prize for poster presentation entitled “Novel Immune Regulatory Pathway Associated with Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) and the Recombinant EBV Protein Mediated Inflammation in Retinal Pigment” and Ms. M. Vimalin Jayalatha won the second Prize for poster presentation entitled “Response of Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells towards Leptospiral recurrent Uveitis Antigens”.

Dr. Smitha Praveen received the highly prestigious 'Smt. Pushpa Rani Pattanayek Award' for excellence in community services for the year 2014- 15 at the Annual Conference of the Association of Community Ophthalmologists of India (ACOIN) on 31st October 2015 at Lucknow.

Mr. Ravikant Danda received the Travel Fellowship from Department of Biotechnology, Government of India and attended the 14th Human Proteome Organization World Congress HUPO Conference held at Vancouver, Canada from 27th September to 1st October 2015.

She availed the fellowship at the University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia at the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences from 2nd October to 17th November, 2015.

Mr. N. Murugan, received the “Best Poster in Bacteriology” for the poster entitled “Development and Application of Set of Multiplex PCR for rapid diagnosis of drug resistant genes among clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa” presented (Oral Presentation) at the 39th National Conference of the IAMM held at JIPMER, Puducherry from 27th to 29th November 2015.

Ms. A. R. Rajalakshmy received the Young Woman Scientist Award in memory of Smt. Sreerangamma N. Narayan and Smt. Radhamani N. Anantha for the year 2015 at the 27th Graduation Ceremony of Sankara Nethralaya held at Sri. V.D. Swami Auditorium, on 28th November 2015.

Ms. Jameel Rizwana H and Ms. Rashima A received the “Endeavour Executive Fellowship Merit Award 2016” from the Department of Education & Training, Australian Government.

Dr. Sanjana Suresh Rao, PG Student, won the Dr. S. Kanthimathynathan Endowment Gold Medal Award for Neuro-Ophthalmology.

Dr. A V Sai Jyothi received the Prof S Krishnamoorthy Rao Gold Medal for the year 2015, for the Best Outgoing PhD Student at the 27th Graduation ceremony of Sankara Nethralaya on 28th November2015.

Dr. V. Umashankar received the Early Career Research Award grant under Young Scientist Scheme – 2015 from Science & Engineering Research Board, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India.

Dr. V. Umashankar has been selected as Member, Board of Studies for Bioinformatics, University of Madras, for the year 2016.

Ms. Vinita kumari was awarded Ph.D degree at BITS Pilani on 8th January 2016 for the thesis entitled, “Association Study, Analysis for Genetic and Environmental Interaction of Variants in Candidate Genes for Inflammation (ICAM-1, CFH) and Neuroprotection (PEDF, EPO) in Type 2 Diabetic Retinopathy Patients from South India”

Dr Pukraj Rishi received the Best Paper Award for the paper entitled “Intra-arterial chemotherapy in eyes with retinoblastoma” at the AIOS conference held at Kolkata from 24th to 28th February 2016.

Dr T. S. Surendran was conferred the highly prestigious 'Fellowship of the Royal college of Surgeons' (FRCS), the world's highest professional qualification for Surgeons, by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in March 2016.
