Lions Annual Picnic/Ballgame A Home Run!Lions Annual Picnic/Ballgame A Home Run!

The LIONS ROAR is a monthly publication of the Knoxville Tri-County Lions Club, Keith McCord, President, meeting at Connie's Kitchen, Seymour, TN on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month unless otherwise noted. Editor is PDG Ken Moffett.

The annual event at Smokies Stadium was a good time for families and friends as Lions prepared to embark on a new year of service.

The evening was made better by knowing our invited guests from the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department enjoyed it as well.

We were delighted to see Morgan back in the area and able to join with us.

All together, it made for a winning summer get-together.

Shown above are those elected to serve at the conclusion of the Lions International Convention in Fukuoka,Japan, including Tennessee's own Lion Bob Corlew from Milton, TN, and Lion Gudron Yngvadottir, the firstwoman to be in line for the LCI presidency. District 12-N District Governor Paulette Bailey was alsoinstalled.

The Centennial convention will be held in Chicago, Illinois next summer, June 30-July 4, 2017. Make plansnow to be a part of this great celebratory occasion.

Recognizing Good Neighbors—Our Local FirefightersRecognizing Good Neighbors—Our Local Firefighters

As a result of the severe storm that went through Seymour and surrounding areas recently that resulted involunteer firefighters being out all night working, the Tri-County Lions decided it would be appropriate toshow our appreciation to these fine community volunteers. Lion Connie Emmons will be contacting themconcerning how best to proceed—possibly a meal, donation toward needed equipment, or some other needthey may have. More information on this project will be forthcoming at the July 25th club meeting.

Stuffed animals for the project in cooperation with area law enforcement and first responders to help childrenin difficult circumstances were expected to arrive “any day now”, so once they are in hand, planning can goforward to make a formal presentation.

It was announced at the meeting that Lions ClubsInternational Foundation has made an initial $10,000Emergency Grant to be distributed by Lions in theareas that suffered severe flooding in West Virginiarecently. Many Lions from throughout WV and nearbyareas should be commended for helping with cleanupand other needed services. LCIF will continue tocollect donations for this effort.

Lion Treasurer Judy Moffett had a preliminarybudget that was handed out; suggestions weresolicited prior to submitting it to the budgetcommittee. She also presented the report withcurrent project and administration accountbalances. ($2691 project and $591administration). Some membership dues ($32 forthe current 6-month period) still need to bereceived.

The installation of officers is tentativelyscheduled for July 25.
