To avoid the risk of accidents anddamage to the machine please readthese operating instructions carefullybefore using it for the first time. Theycontain important information on itssafety, use and maintenance.Keep these instructions in a safeplace and ensure that new users arefamiliar with the content. Pass themon to any future owner of themachine.

Correct useOnly use this washer-extractor towash items which are specified by

the manufacturer to bemachine-washable on the wash-carelabel, and textiles composed ofhand-washable wool or wool blendfabrics as well as satin, lace, silk andother hand-washable garments. Anyother applications may be dangerous.The manufacturer is not liable fordamage resulting from improper use oroperation.

Technical safetyBefore setting up the machine,check it for any externally visible

damage.Do not install or use a damagedmachine.

Before connecting the machine,ensure that the connection data on

the data plate (voltage and connectedload) match the mains electricitysupply. If in any doubt, consult aqualified electrician.

The electrical safety of thismachine can only be guaranteed

when continuity is complete betweenthe machine and an effective earthingsystem which complies with local andnational safety regulations. It is mostimportant that this basic safetyrequirement is present and regularlytested, and where there is any doubtthe on-site wiring system should beinspected by a qualified electrician.The manufacturer cannot be held liablefor the consequences of an inadequateearthing system (e.g. electric shock).

Do not connect the machine to themains electricity supply by an

extension lead. Extension leads do notguarantee the required safety of themachine (e.g. danger of overheating).

The machine is built in accordancewith current safety requirements.

Unauthorised repairs could result inunforeseen dangers for the user, forwhich the manufacturer cannot acceptliability. Repairs should only beundertaken by a Miele approvedtechnician.Ensure current is not supplied to themachine until after maintenance orrepair work has been carried out.

In the even of a fault or for cleaningpurposes, the machine is only

completely isolated from the electricitysupply when:

it is switched off at the mains, or

the mains fuse is withdrawn.

Warning and Safety instructions

This machine must only beconnected to the on-site water

supply using a new hose kit. Old hosesmust not be re-used. Check the hoseregularly for signs of wear. Change ingood time to avoid the risk of leaks andsubsequent damage.

Faulty components must only bereplaced by genuine Miele original

spare parts. Only when these parts arefitted can the safety standards of themachine be guaranteed.

If the connection cable is faulty itmust only be replaced by a Miele

approved service technician to protectthe user from danger.

In countries where there are areaswhich may be subject to infestation

by cockroaches or other vermin, payparticular attention to keeping themachine and its surroundings in aclean condition at all times. Anydamage which may be caused bycockroaches or other vermin will not becovered by the machine guarantee.

UseThis equipment may only be usedin mobile installations such as

ships, caravans, aircraft etc. if a riskassessment of the installation has beencarried out by a suitably qualifiedengineer.

Do not install this machine in roomswhere temperatures below freezing

may occur. Frozen hoses may burstunder pressure. The reliability of theelectronic control unit may be impairedat temperatures below freezing point.

Before using the machine for thefirst time, check that the transit

fitting at the rear of the machine hasbeen removed (see section on"Installation"). During spinning, a transitfitting which is still in place may result indamage to both the machine andadjacent furniture or appliances.

Turn off the stopcock if themachine is to be left for any length

of time (e.g. holiday), especially if thereis no floor drain (gully) in the immediatevicinity.

Flooding danger.If hooking the drain hose of a drain

pump machine into a wash basin,check that the water can drain offquickly enough to prevent the sink fromoverflowing. Make sure the drain hoseis secure, so that the force of the waterflowing out of the hose does notdislodge it. Otherwise this will result inflooding.

Take care to ensure that foreignobjects (e.g. nails, pins, coins,

paper clips) do not find their way intothe machine with the laundry. Thesemay damage components of themachine (e.g. suds container, drum),which in turn can result in damage tothe laundry.

If the correct amount of detergentis dispensed, the machine should

not need to be descaled. If, however,you do wish to descale the machineonly use proprietary non-corrosivedescaling agents and strictly observethe instructions on the packaging. If indoubt contact the Miele ProfessionalDept. or your Miele Dealer.

Textiles which have beenpre-treated in solvent based

cleaning agents must be thoroughlyrinsed in clean water before beingwashed in the machine.

Never use solvent based cleaningagents in this machine, as this may

result in damage to component partsand create toxic fumes. Suchdetergents also pose a fire andexplosion hazard.

Only use dyes specified by themanufacturer as being suitable for

use in a washing machine. Alwaysobserve the manufacturer's instructionscarefully.

Colour run and dye removerscontain sulphur compounds which

can cause damage such as corrosion.Do not use these products in thismachine.

Avoid contact of stainless steelsurfaces (front, lid, casing) with

liquid cleaning and disinfecting agentswhich contain chlorine or sodiumhypochlorite. These agents can have acorrosive effect on stainless steel.Aggressive vapours containing chlorinebleach can also be corrosive. Do notstore open containers or these agentsnear the machine.

Safety with childrenThis machine is not a toy! To avoidthe risk of injury do not allow

children to play on or near it or to playwith the controls. Supervise its use bythe elderly or infirm, and supervisechildren whilst you are operating themachine.

For machines with a 'porthole'door, remember that the porthole

glass will be hot when washing at veryhigh temperatures.Do not let children touch it.

AccessoriesAccessory parts may only be fittedwhen expressly approved by Miele.

If other parts are used, guarantee,performance and product liabilityclaims will be invalidated.

Disposal of your old machineBefore discarding an old machinedisconnect it from the electricity

supply. Cut off the cable directly behindthe machine to prevent misuse. Thisshould be done by a competentperson.

The manufacturer cannot be heldliable for damage caused by

non-compliance with these Warningand Safety instructions.

Multi-function selectorTurning the multi-function selector moves the highlighting tothe next option.

Pressing the multi-function selector selects the highlightedoption.

You can use the multi-function selector to select anyprogramme. The highlighting will move up or downdepending on the direction the multi-function selector isturned in. The HV arrows on the right of the display, indicatefurther options. Pressing the multi-function selector takes youto the main menu of the wash programme selected.

To return to the Programme selection menu turn themulti-function selector to highlight Back and then press themulti-function selector to confirm your selection.

Settings menuThe Settings menu is used to alter the washing machine'selectronics to suit different requirements. See "Settingsmenu" for more details.

Before using the machine for the first time ensure that it iscorrectly installed and connected. See "Installation andconnection". Also check that the drain filter is securelytightened to prevent the risk of water leaks during use.

For safety reasons spinning is not possible until the machinehas been prepared for using for the first time. To activate thespinning function you must run a wash programme withoutlaundry and without detergent.

Setting the time of daySet the hour with the multi-function selector and confirm thissetting. Then set the minutes. Confirm the selection again tosave the time of day in memory.

Reminder to remove transport strutsThe machine will remind you to remove the transport struts.

^ Remove the transport struts (if this has not already beendone by your fitter). Then press the multi-function selectorto confirm that this has been done.

Brief instructionsThe headings numbered A, B, C, . . .show the operating sequence and canbe used as brief instructions.

ASort the laundry

^ Empty all pockets.

,Foreign objects (e.g. nails,coins, paper clips, etc.) can causedamage to garments andcomponents in the machine.

Removing marks^ Badly soiled areas, stains etc. should

be removed as soon as possible,preferably whilst still fresh. Spillagesshould be carefully dabbed off usinga soft colourfast cloth. Do not rub!

Badly soiled areas can be pre-treatedwith liquid detergent, stain removersetc. first, following the manufacturer'sinstructions. With particularly stubbornstains ask your dry cleaner for advice.

,Do not use solvent-basedcleaning agents in this machine.

^ Sort the laundry by colour and bycare label. Most garments have atextile care label in the collar or sideseam.

Dark textiles often contain excess dyeand should be washed separatelyseveral times before being included ina mixed load. Always wash whites andcoloureds separately.

Curtains: Remove lead weights firstor place in a laundry bag.

Underwiring and collar stiffeners:Any loose wiring in bras, shirt collarstiffeners, etc. should be removed orsewn in.

Knitted garments, trousers andjeans, T-shirts and sweat shirts: Turninside out, if recommended by themanufacturer.

Close any zips, fasten hooks andeyes etc before washing.

Fasten duvet covers etc. to preventsmall items from being rolled upinside them.

Do not wash any items in this machinewhich are specified by themanufacturer as not washable on thecare label (h symbol).

How to wash correctly

BLoad the drum^ Press the a button and open the

drum door.

The interior drum lighting will come on.

^ Unfold the laundry and load looselyin the drum. Mixing both large andsmall items gives better wash resultsand also helps distribute the loadevenly during spinning.

The most efficient use of energy andwater is achieved when a full load iswashed. However, do not overload asthis causes creases and reducescleaning efficiency.

^ Shut the door with a gentle swing.

Make sure that no garments arecaught between the drum door andseal.

CSelect a language^ Select the language you want.

DSelect a programmeSelect a programme from theProgramme selection menu.

^ If Pre-wash is available for theprogramme, select it if wished.

Payment systemIf your machine has a payment system,the amount of credit required willappear in the display.

Credit will be lost if the door isopened or the programme cancelledafter it has started.

EAdd detergentTake the level of soiling and waterhardness into account. It is important todispense the correct amount, because

too little detergent results in:

Laundry not getting properly cleanand with time it may become greyand hard to the touch.

Greasy particles clinging to thelaundry.

Limescale deposits on the heaterelements.

too much detergent results in:

Excessive foam which causes a lowlevel of agitation and poor wash,rinse and spin results.

A burden to the environment.

See "Detergent" for further information.

^ Pull out the detergent drawer andadd detergent to the compartmentsas follows:

i = Detergent for the pre-wash(1/4 of the total amountrecommended). Thiscompartment is also used forstarch formulations whenstarching separately.

j = Detergent for the main wash

= Fabric conditioner or liquidstarch

^ Close the detergent drawer.

FStart the programmeThe Start button will flash as soon as aprogramme can be started.

^ Press the Start button.

The Start button will light up.

The estimated programme duration willappear in the display. This will countdown in one minute steps. During thefirst 10 minutes the machine measureshow much water is being absorbed bythe laundry. The programme durationmay be shorter depending on thisabsorbency rate.

The programme sequence is alsoshown in the display. Thewasher-extractor shows you when eachsection of the programme is reached.

The drum lighting switches off once theprogramme has started.

GRemove the laundry

Only remove laundry from themachine once the drum hasstopped turning. Reaching into amoving drum is extremelydangerous and could result in injury.

If laundry is not removed immediatelythe programme has finished, theanti-crease phase will begin and thedrum will turn at intervals to helpprevent creasing.Anti-crease will flash alternately withFinish in the display to indicate that theprogramme has finished.

^ Press the a button to open thedrum door.

^ Remove the laundry.

Check that all items have beenremoved from the drum. Items left inthe drum could discolour other itemsin the next wash or becomediscoloured themselves.

^ Check the folds in the door seal forany small articles, e.g. buttons whichmight be lodged there.

^ Close the drum door. Otherwise thereis the danger of objects being placedinadvertently in the drum. If theseremained unnoticed and werewashed in the next load, they coulddamage the laundry.

This machine has fully electroniccontrols with automatic loadrecognition. It takes in the right amountof water required for the programmedepending on the amount of laundryand its absorbency rate. This meansthat programme cycles and durationscan vary.

The programme sequences outlined inthe chart are based on the basicprogramme with a full load. Extraoptions which can be selected have notbeen taken into account.

The programme sequence displayshows the stage the programme hasreached.

Special features in the programmesequences:Anti-crease:

At the end of every programme, withthe exception of the Woollensprogramme, the drum continues to turnat intervals for up to 30 minutes to helpprevent creasing. The door can beopened and laundry removed at anytime during the anti-crease phase.

1) Run-up to spin: A run-up to spin iscarried out before the wash processbegins to deflate air from the pillows.Subsequent water intake for the mainwash is through compartment j.

2) Pre-rinse: A Pre-rinse withoutdetergent is carried out automaticallyto remove dust.

3) In the Outerwear programme,laundry is only spun after the mainwash.

Altering a programmeAfter the start of a programme it is nolonger possible to select a differentprogramme. You will need to cancel thecurrent programme before you canselect a new one.

Cancelling a programmeYou can cancel a programme at anytime after it has started. Turn themulti-function selector until Cancel ishighlighted and then press themulti-function selector to confirm yourselection.

The suds will be pumped away.

^ Open the drum door before starting anew programme.

If your machine is fitted with apayment system, it will lock afterthree minutes and it is then nolonger possible to cancel theprogramme.

Adding or removing laundryafter a programme has startedIn some programmes you can add orremove laundry up to three minutesafter the start of the programme.

^ Press the door button a to open thedrum door.

^ Add or remove items.

^ Close the drum door.

The programme will continueautomatically.

Please note:Once a programme has started themachine cannot recognise anyadjustment to the load.

For this reason, if laundry is added orremoved after the start of a programme,the machine will always complete theprogramme cycle assuming a full loadwhich can lead to an increase in theprogramme duration shown in thedisplay.

The door cannot be opened, if: the suds temperature is above 55C. the water is above a certain level.

the programme has reached theFinal spin stage.

The machine locks after threeminutes. It is then no longer possibleto open the door.

Changing the programme sequence

All modern detergents produced forautomatic washing machines aresuitable, including liquid, compact(concentrated), tablets and specialapplication detergents. Use dispensingaids, e.g. balls, if these are suppliedwith the detergent. Tablets are suitablefor full loads but note that it may beimpractical to reduce tablets byproportion to suit smaller loads. Sometablets do not dissolve as rapidly asothers and may not be suitable forprogrammes with short durations.

Woollens and knitwear containing woolmixtures and hand-washable garmentsshould be washed using a detergentspecifically designed for washingwoollens.

Instructions for use and recommendedamounts for a full load are given on thedetergent packaging.

Liquid detergent should be dispensedusing a ball provided by themanufacturer for programmes without apre-wash.

When using liquid detergent forprogrammes with a pre-wash you willneed to purchase a special containerfrom the Miele Spare Parts Departmentwhich sits in the main washcompartment j of the detergentdispenser drawer. Add liquid detergentto this container for the main wash andto compartment i for the pre-wash.

The right amount to dispense willdepend on the following: The soiling level of the laundry

Lightly soiled No visible dirt or stains.Possibly slight body odour.

Normally soiled Visibly dirty and/orjust a few slight stains.

Heavily soiled Stains and soilingclearly visible.

The water hardness level. Check withyour local water supplier if you do notknow the hardness level in your area.

The quantity of the laundry (add therecommended amount of detergent).

Water softenersA water softener can be used to cutdown on the use of detergents in hardwater areas. Dispense according to theamount specified on the packaging.First add detergent and then the watersoftener.

Use a quantity of detergent as for softwater.

Miele do not recommend connectingthe machine to an on-site watersoftener.

Washing with severalcomponentsIf you wash using several components(e.g. special application detergents),we recommend always dispensing theagents into compartment j in thefollowing order:

1. Detergent

2. Water softeners

3. Stain remover

This way the agents are distributedmore evenly.

External dispensing systemThis machine is suitable for connectingto an external dispensing system. Aconversion kit is required which mustbe fitted by a Miele approved servicetechnician.

Fabric conditioners and liquidstarchFabric conditioners make garments softto handle and help prevent static clingwhen tumble drying.

Starch stiffens and gives body to itemsof laundry, e.g. shirts, tablecloths andbed linen.

^ Dispense according to the amountspecified on the packaging.

Automatic dispensing of fabricconditioner or liquid starch tolaundry at the end of a programme

^ Add the fabric conditioner or liquidstarch to compartment . Do notexceed the maximum level mark.

It will be automatically dispensed in thelast rinse. At the end of the programmea small amount of water remains in thefabric conditioner compartment .

If starching frequently, clean thedispenser compartment andespecially the siphon tube andconditioner channel regularly. See"Cleaning the detergent dispenserdrawer".

Colour run and dye removers / dyes^ Do not use colour run or dye

removers in this machine.

^ Dyes suitable for use in a washingmachine can be used. However,please note that the salt used in thedyeing process can cause corrosionto stainless steel components in themachine if you dye frequently. Alwaysobserve the manufacturer'sinstructions carefully.

External dispensing systemThis machine is suitable for connectingto an external dispensing system. Aconversion kit is required which mustbe fitted by a Miele approved servicetechnician.

,Disconnect the machine from themains electricity supply.

^ Clean the casing with a mildnon-abrasive detergent or soap andwater. Wipe dry with a soft cloth.

^ Clean the fascia panel with a dampcloth and wipe dry with a soft cloth.

^ The drum and any other stainlesssteel components can be cleanedusing a suitable proprietarystainless-steel cleaning agentfollowing the manufacturer'sinstructions on the packaging.

E-ClothA microfibre "E-Cloth" is available fromthe Miele UK Spare Parts Departmentwhich is suitable for cleaning surfacessuch as stainless steel, glass, plasticand chrome without the use ofchemicals.

Extra cleaningCarry out a hot wash (70C or above)with powder detergent approx. every 6weeks to help prevent deposits buildingup in the machine. These can occurwhen washing is mainly done at lowtemperatures and also lead tounpleasant smells.

,Do not use solvents, abrasivecleaners, glass cleaners orall-purpose cleaning agents.These might damage plasticsurfaces and other componentsbecause of the chemicals theycontain.

Cleaning the detergent dispenserdrawerRemove detergent residues regularly.

^ Pull out the detergent dispenserdrawer until a resistance is felt. Pressdown the release catch and at thesame time pull the drawer right out ofthe machine.

^ Clean the detergent drawer withwarm water.

^ Clean the siphon.

1. Remove the siphon fromcompartment and rinse underwarm running water. Clean thesiphon tube in the same way.

2. Replace the siphon.

,Do not use a hose to wash themachine down.

Cleaning the water inlet filtersThe machine has two filters to protectthe water inlet valve. These filtersshould be checked every six months orso, or more often if there are frequentinterruptions to the external watersupply.

To clean the filter in the inlet hose:^ First turn off the stopcock.

^ Unscrew the threaded unionconnecting the free end of the inlethose to the stopcock.

^ Remove the rubber seal 1 from therecess.

^ Using pointed pliers, take hold of theplastic filter bar 2 and remove.

^ Clean the plastic filter.

^ Put the filter and seal back in thereverse order and reconnect thehose.

Turn on the stopcock and check theconnection is watertight. If waterdrips out, tighten the connection.

To clean the filter in the water inletvalve:^ Using pliers, carefully loosen the

ribbed plastic nut on the inlet valveand unscrew.

^ Use pointed nose pliers to withdrawthe plastic filter by the bar (seeillustration). Clean, put back andsecure.

The two filters must be put back inplace after cleaning.

What to do, if . . .With the help of the following notes, minor faults in the performance of themachine, some of which may result from incorrect operation, can be put rightwithout contacting the Service Department.

,Repair work to electrical appliances should only be carried out by asuitably qualified person in accordance with local and national safetyregulations. Repairs and other work by unqualified persons could bedangerous. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for unauthorised work.

There is a lever behind the detergentdrawer fascia panel which opens theaccess flap to the drain system.

^ Remove the lever.

^ Use it to open the access flap.

... Machines with a drain pumpIf the drain outlet is clogged, a largeamount of water will be retained in themachine (up to 25 litres).

,Caution: if laundry has beenwashed at a high temperature, waterdraining out of the machine will stillbe hot. Danger of scalding.

^ Place a suitable container under theaccess flap.

When draining water from themachine, do not unscrew the drainfilter completely or take it right out.

^ Unscrew the drain filter lid until waterruns out.

To interrupt the flow of water:

^ Tighten the drain filter back up again.

Once the flow of water ceases:

^ Remove the drain filter completely.

^ Clean it thoroughly.

^ Remove any foreign objects (e.g.buttons, coins, etc.) and fluff from thefilter housing. Turn the impeller byhand to check that it rotates freely.

^ Put the drain filter back in place andsecure.

,Make sure the drain filter issecurely tightened. Otherwise thereis a risk of water leakage during use.

Opening the drum door

,Always make sure that the drumis stationary before reaching into themachine to remove laundry.Reaching into a moving drum isextremely dangerous.

^ Use a spoon handle to pull theemergency release downwards (seearrow). The drum door will open.

Changing the lamp for thedrum lighting

The machine will operate with nolighting in place or if the lighting isfaulty.

^ Open the drum door.

^ Now disconnect the machine fromthe electricity supply, see "Warningand Safety instructions".

^ Remove the yellow lever from behindthe detergent drawer fascia panel.

^ Insert the lever in the slot provided inthe drum lighting unit (see illustration)and turn anti-clockwise (a quarterturn) until you feel a resistance.

^ Pull out the loosened unit with yourfingers.

^ Press the two prongs to separate theplastic holder 1 from the protectivecover 2.

^ Remove the faulty lamp from theplastic holder.

The new lamp must be of the sametype (G4) with a maximum poweroutput of 5 watts/12 volts.

The lamps are available from anelectrical retailer, your Miele Dealer orfrom the Miele Spare Parts Department.

^ Insert the new lamp into the plasticholder.

^ Carefully fit the plastic holder and theprotective cover together.

^ Insert the lighting unit into the socketand turn it clockwise to secure it.

It is absolutely essential for thecorrect functioning of thewasher-extractor that the drumlighting unit is fitted correctly inposition.

Installation on a raised plinthThe machine can be installed on a steelplinth base (available open or closed)or on a concrete plinth.

^ Secure the front feet of thewasher-extractor with the clampssupplied when installing on aconcrete plinth.

Washer-dryer stackA Miele tumble dryer can be stackedon top of this washer-extractor. Theappropriate stacking kit* (WTV) isrequired.

Installation surface

,Do not install the machine nearor directly above an open gully orfloor drain. Moisture from these canpenetrate the machine and damagethe electric components.

A concrete floor is the most suitableinstallation surface, being far lessprone to vibration during the spin cyclethan wooden floorboards or a carpetedsurface.

,If the machine is installed on anon-site concrete or brick plinth, itmust be secured using the clampssupplied with the machine.Otherwise there is the danger of themachine moving about.

^ The machine must be level andsecurely positioned.

^ To avoid vibrations during spinning,the machine should not be installedon soft floor coverings.

If installing on a wooden joist floor:

^ We recommend a plywood base (atleast 70 x 60 x 3 cm) The baseshould span several joists and bebolted to the joists and not only to thefloorboards. Check for the presenceof pipes and cables first.

If possible, install the machine in acorner, as this is usually the most stablepart of the floor.

Installing the washer-extractorTo manoeuvre the machine out of itspacking case to its installlation site,hold it by the edge of the lid where itprotrudes to the rear of the machine aswell as by the handle recesses at thefront.

Please note:

^ Do not lift the machine by the drumdoor.

,Ensure that the machine feet andthe floor are dry to prevent themachine from slipping during thespin cycle.

Removing the transit fittings

^ To remove the left and right covers

1. Use a screwdriver to prise out thecover as illustrated.

2. Pull the cover forwards to remove.

^ Using the spanner supplied turn theleft-hand transit bar 90, then

^ withdraw the transit bar.

^ Turn the right-hand transit bar 90,then

^ Fit the covers on to the two holes.Then plug the holes as shown withthe caps.

^ Secure the transit bars to the back ofthe washer-extractor. Make sure thatholes b are fitted over retainers a.

,The machine must not be movedwithout the transit fittings in place.Store them as shown or keep themin a safe place for future use. Theymust be re-fitted if the machine is tobe moved again (e.g. when movinghouse).

Re-fitting the transit barsRe-fitting is carried out by reversing theprocedure.

Levelling the machineThe machine must stand perfectly levelon all four feet to ensure safe andproper operation.

Incorrect installation may increaseelectricity and water consumption andmay cause the machine to move about.

Screwing out and adjusting the feetThe four adjustable screw feet are usedto level the machine. All four feet arescrewed in when the machine isdelivered.

^ Using the spanner supplied turncounter nut 2 in a clockwisedirection. Then turn counter nut 2together with foot 1 to unscrew.

^ Use a spirit level to check themachine is standing level.

^ Hold foot 1 securely with a pipewrench. Turn counter nut 2 againusing the spanner supplied until itsits firmly up against the housing.

,All four counternuts must sitfirmly up against the housing. Pleasealso check this for the feet which didnot need adjustment. Otherwisethere is the danger of the machinemoving about.

PlumbingThis machine is approved for all UKapplications as suitable for category 5.The product is listed in the WRASregulations advisory scheme directoryand is suitable for direct connection tomains drinking water. No specialplumbing arrangements e.g. breaktanks are required.

A Water Council approved check valveis supplied in the accessories packprovided with this machine. It should befitted in between the stopcock(s) andthe water inlet hose(s).

The machine should be connected to amains water supply in accordance withlocal and national safety regulations.

The machine is designed to operatewith a flow pressure of between 1 and10 bar (100 kPa and 1,000 kPa). Athigher water pressures it is essential tofit a reducer valve.

Connection to the water supply shouldbe carried out by a qualified plumberand should incorporate a stopcock witha 3/4" thread. The stopcock should befitted by a qualified plumber.

The machine is supplied as standardwith two hoses, for connection to a hotand cold water supply.

Connection to the cold water supply

The cold water inlet hose (bluestripes) must be connected to theon-site cold water supply via a 3/4"threaded union. It is not suitable forconnection to a hot water supply.

,The connection point is subjectto mains water pressure. Turn on thestopcock slowly and check for leaks.Correct the position of the washerand union if appropriate.

Maintenance and careOnly use a genuine Miele hose shouldyou ever need a replacement. Mielehoses are tested to withstand pressureof at least 70 bar (7,000 kPa).

In order to protect the water inletvalve, the two dirt filters - one in theopen end of the inlet hose, one atthe inlet point in the machine mustnot be removed.

Extension hoseLonger hoses 2.5 or 4.0 m in length areavailable from your Miele dealer or theMiele Spare Parts Department asoptional extras.

Connection to the hot water supplyTo keep electricity consumption costsdown this machine can be connectedto a (ring) piped hot water supply. Themaximum temperature must not exceed70C.

It is not economical to run it from anindividual hot water supply if it is not incontinuous use, as the water in thesupply pipes cools down and moreenergy would be required to reheat thewater.

For hot water connection the sameconditions apply as for cold waterconnection.

The inlet hose with the red stripes (hotwater hose) is connected to thestopcock.

For operational reasons the machinemust not be connected to hot wateronly.

If the machine is not connected to a hotwater supply, the water settings for themain wash, pre-wash and rinses mustbe re-programmed.

^ Go to Settings menu/Supervisor leveland select the Cold option for each ofthe above. The Settings/Supervisorlevel needs to be activated by aMiele service technician.

The programme durations may belonger.

^ Unscrew the inlet hose (hot water -red stripes)

^ Plug the inlet connection with the capsupplied.

Connection to a very hot watersupplyIt is possible to connect the machine toa very hot water supply, 70C to amaximum of 85C. A special inlet hoseis required. The machine must also bereprogrammed by a Miele servicetechnician or Miele authorised servicedealer.

Connection to drainage

Machines with a drain pumpThe machine drains via a drain pumpwith a delivery head of 1 metre*. Thedrain hose must not be kinked as thiswould restrict drainage. The swivelelbow at the end of the hose can beturned in either direction, or can bedetached if required, with a sharp twistand pull.

* For a delivery head of more than 1 m(up to a max. of 1.8 m) a secondduo-drain pump is available with thecorresponding kit from the Miele SpareParts Department or your Miele Dealer.

The drain hose may be connected asfollows:1. Direct into a sink or basin (drain

pump version):

Please note:

Hook the hose over the edge andsecure.

Make sure that the water can drainaway freely without hindrance.Otherwise there is a risk of wateroverflowing or of some of the drainedwater being sucked back into themachine.

2. Connected securely to a plastic drainpipe with a rubber nipple. There is noneed to use a non-return valve.

3. Connected securely to a standpipe.(Seal the hose into the pipe to avoidflooding in case of the drainpipebeing blocked).

4. Connected securely to a floor gully.

If required the drain hose can beextended to a length of 5 m. Thenecessary parts can purchased fromthe Miele Spare Parts Department oryour Miele dealer.

Drain valve versionA motorised drain valve is used to drainthe machine. A DN 70 angle connectorcan be used for draining the machinevia an on-site gully (with odour trap).N.B. If not supplied with the machine anangle connector is available throughthe Miele Spare Parts Department.

Electrical connection U.K.All electrical work must be carried outby a suitably qualified and competentperson, in strict accordance withnational and local safety regulations.

Ensure power is not supplied to themachine until after installation work hasbeen carried out.

The voltage, rated load and fuse ratingare given on the data plate. Pleaseensure these match the site mainssupply.

This washer-extractor is supplied asstandard for connection to either: 230 - 240 V / 1 N / 50 Hz,

Connection should be made via asuitable isolator which complies withnational and local safety regulations,and the on/off switch should be easilyaccessible for servicing work.

For extra safety it is advisable to installa residual current device (RCD) with atrip current of 30 mA (in accordancewith DIN VDE 0664, VDE 0100, Section739).

When switched off there must be anall-pole contact gap of 3 mm in theisolator switch (including switch, fusesand relays acc. to VDE 0660).

Importantfor 400 V connection, the machine issupplied with a cable in the followingcolours:

Language JThe display can be set to appear inone of several different languages.

The different language setting will onlyapply to the programme currently inuse. After the programme has finishedthe display will revert to the defaultlanguage which was set in theSettings/Supervisor level menu.

Suds coolingWhen this is activated, additionalwater flows into the drum at the endof the main wash to cool the sudsdown. Hot suds can damage plasticdrainage pipes.

Suds cooling takes place whentemperatures of more than 70C areselected.

Suds cooling should be activated:

to prevent the danger of scalding ifthe drain hose is hooked over theedge of a sink or basin.

where the drainage pipes do notcomply with DIN 1986.

Auto load control

The washer-extractor has auto loadcontrol. The water level and theprogramme durations are adjustedaccording to the load. If the auto loadcontrol is deactivated, the machinewill always carry out the programmesequence based on a full load.

The machine is delivered with thisoption activated.

Pre-wash water

You can choose for the pre-wash tobe carried out with either hot or coldwater (not available with the Curtainsprogramme). Hot water can only beonly taken in if the wash temperatureis above 30C.

The machine is delivered with the Hotwater option selected.

Main wash water

You can choose for the main wash tobe carried out with either hot or coldwater (not available with theWoollens, Silks and Curtainsprogrammes). Hot water can only beonly taken in if the wash temperatureis above 30C.


If the machine is not connected tothe hot water supply, the programmedurations will be longer and will varyfrom the time remaining shown in thedisplay.

The machine will need to be set upspecifically for Recycled water if thisoption is selected.

Rinse water

You can choose for the rinses in theCottons, Minimum iron Table linen,Kitchen linen, Towelling and Sluiceprogrammes to be carried out witheither hot or cold water. Hot watercan only be only taken in if the washtemperature is above 50C.


The machine will need to be set upspecifically for Recycled water if thisoption is selected.
