4 Jan. 13 & 14—Eat the Right Thing Did you resolve to eat better this year? Then tune in to see Ellie Krieger, Joanne Weir, Annabel Langbein, P. Allen Smith, Christina Pirello, Laura Theodore and others create healthy, delicious and satis-fying recipes. On the menu: gluten-free multigrain pancakes, sweet-pea ravioli, quinoa pilaf, roasted root vegetable soup, grilled artichokes and more. Here’s to a healthy new you in 2018!
4 Jan. 13 & 14—Down Under Create says “g’day” with a marathon devoted to the culture and cuisine found Down Under. Joseph Rosendo, Rudy Maxa, Richard Bangs, Richard Wiese and Art Wolfe explore Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania — from the nat-ural wonders of the Outback and Great Barrier Reef to the urban pleasures of Sydney and Melbourne. Then, homegrown chef Annabel Langbein gathers ingredients from local New Zealand farms for a flavorful farm-to-table feast.
4 Jan. 20 & 21—Taste of Paradise Chase away those winter blues with a trip to the tropics as Create takes in sights, sounds and flavors of the Caribbean. Chef Irie spices up mango chutney, roasted snapper, and charred lamb, while Steven Raichlen sears jerk chicken and grilled shrimp over sugar cane in the birthplace of barbecue. Jam to rhythms of reggae legend Bob Marley with Music Voyager host Jacob Edgar. Soak in some sun on the isles of Martinique (pictured) and the Guadeloupe alongside Darley Newman.
4 Jan. 27 & 28—Seoul Search Before the Winter Olympics kick off in Seoul, Create’s experts will explore the rich history, culture and cuisine of South Korea. Joseph Rosendo discovers ancient treasures and exciting foods in the capital city; Mickela Mallozzi learns about traditional mask dances and the newest K-POP routines; America’s Test Kitchen makes a Korean feast, inspired by the flavors of the region; and Lucky Chow’s Maangchi cooks up kimichi, a staple in Korean kitchens.

NOVA: Black Hole ApocalypsePremieres January 10
Black holes are the most enigmatic, mysterious, and powerful objects in the universe. Anything that falls into them vanishes… gone forever. But astrophysicists are coming to realize that black holes just might be integral to the structure of the universe – and our very existence. In this 2-hour special, astrophysicist and novelist Janna Levin will take viewers on a journey to the frontiers of black hole science and explore the provocative questions: Where do they come from? What’s inside them? What happens if you fall into one? And what can they tell us about the nature of space, time, and gravity?
NOVA: Solar Impulse Premieres January 31
On March 9, 2015, Solar Impulse II took off from Abu Dhabi on the greatest aviation undertaking of our time: to be the first solar-powered airplane to fly around the world. Twelve years in the making, it was anything but a sure bet. Now, with unique access to the undertaking, NOVA has a front-row seat on the adventure of a lifetime. Hell-bent on pushing the boundaries of human flight and sending a message about the potential for renewable energy, a team of engineers designed and built the Solar Impulse from scratch. As we fly with them on their days-long flights, we will discover how they overcame seemingly insurmountable challenges to fulfill their mission.
Kick off the New Year with carefully curated programming themes, thought-ful new productions and WORLD-exclusive premieres for your audiences! WORLD Channel Highlights for January include:
POV: 500 YearsMonday, January 1st at 7 PM
From a historic genocide trial to the overthrow of a president, 500 Years tells a sweeping story of mounting resistance played out in Guatemala’s recent history, through the actions and perspectives of the majority indigenous Mayan popula-tion, who now stand poised to reimagine their story.

INVEST IN THE FUTURE OF PUBLIC MEDIAEach year, many WTVP supporters make a special gift to the WTVP Endowment Fund. Since 1984, this important long-term investment has grown to over $1.5 million! The Endowment Fund represents the long-term savings and financial stability for WTVP. Invested conservatively by the Board of Trustees, an annual distribution from the WTVP Endowment Fund supports the special operations or capital needs of the station.
We are most grateful for the confidence and support of all Endowment donors, and especially to the anonymous donors who pledged to match the first $10,000 raised! By donating to the endowment today, your dollars will be doubled! If you would like to support WTVP and have a long-term impact on our future, please call the WTVP Development Office at (309) 677-4747.
