XVII CARPFISHING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP Venue: Mequinenza Reservoir Town: Caspe (Aragón)

Date: October 5th-10th, 2015

Spanish Federation of Fishing and Casting and Federation of Aragón have the honor to invite you to

participate to the XVII Carpfishing World Championship, that will take place in the Mequinenza Reservoir, in

the town Caspe (Zaragoza), between 5 and 10 October 2015 –see the attached program–.

The championship will be held in Mequinenza Reservoir, also internationally known as the Sea of

Aragon. The three sectors will be located in the middle of the reservoir, near the town of Caspe (you can see it

in the plane below the reservoir).

MEQUINENZA RESERVOIR – CASPE

Mequinenza Reservoir was built in the sixties for the production of electricity and to ensure the flow of

water required for cooling of nuclear power stations in Catalonia, near the mouth of Ebro. It has been until last

century a paradise for black bass fishing and carp of small and medium size. Unfortunately, Illegal introduction

of species with little sporting interest as catfish, walleye and perch fluviatilis smashed the ecological balance

and has left a bleak picture. However, without well knowing the reason, there is a large population both of big

carp and great medium-sized ones. So, if long time ago it was the Mecca of black bass today it is the Mecca of

carpfishing. It will not be necessary to lower the weight of the Article 13 of Regulation (1.500 grams), the

average size is much higher.

MEQUINENZA RESERVOIR– CASPE

From the dam to the point where the reservoir starts at maximum level there is a linear distance of

110 miles, and at this maximum level it has exactly 442 miles of shoreline. The competition will take place near

the town of Caspe (see the attached map) where the waters in the season of championship celebration are

usually fairly clear (the Ebro river is turbid entering into the reservoir, and the water becomes clearer to the

dam where the waters are crystal clear; at the height of Caspe in autumn it is usually fairly clear, unless, of

course, rainfall – which is unusual–).

The current is too slow, the depths are normal, there are no herbs.

MEQUINENZA RESERVOIR – CASPE -FISHING ZONES-

Reaching Caspe is simple, from Barcelona airport is less than 200 kilometers, near all motorways, so

the best is to rent a vehicle. From Madrid airport, Caspe is 400 kilometers. The city between the two airports is

Zaragoza and is connected to these cities by the AVE (www.renfe.es), which takes 1 hour 15 minutes from

Madrid and 1 hour 30 minutes from Barcelona.

In Zaragoza there is an airport, but it has a few international flights and only to some European cities.

However, it could be advisable to consult the existing flights if that is of interest.

The accommodations are in the hotels of Caspe, but considering the insufficient accommodation

capacity, it could be suitable to reach the nearby town of Alcaniz, at 20 kilometers.
