from other programs such as Facebook Improved Apps – Mail, Calendar, Photos and

Getting Windows 10 There are three ways to obtain Windows 10

– buy a new PC with Windows 10 preloaded, – buy a license key to Windows 10 online, – or upgrade an existing Windows 8.1 or Windows 7

PC. If you have a legitimate version of Windows 7 ,

Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, Microsoft is giving a free upgrade if you upgrade before July 29 2016

If you upgrade, your Windows 7 or 8 will disappear.

If you want to keep your old system and install Windows 10, it will cost $119 for Windows 10 Home and $199 for Windows 10 Pro

Installing Windows 10 Before you do anything, we’re going to give you

our standard advice: back up your data If you own a qualifying Windows PC, you had

the option of “reserving” a free copy of Windows 10. At some point, Microsoft will invite you to begin the upgrade process

Microsoft has changed the “activation process” for Windows with Windows 10. After installation of Windows 10, Microsoft will remember the details and no further activation codes will be required.Upgrade your existing system and check it

Change you mind! – Go back to Windows 7 or Windows 8.1

To make life easier on Windows 7 and 8.1 converts, Microsoft will allow you to rollback your Windows 10 installation to the previous operating system for 30 days post-upgrade.

Downgrading to your older OS requires that you still have your Windows.old folder at C:\Windows.old.

This will not work if you have done a “clean install” of Windows 10

You can still re-upgrade to Window 10 until July 29, 2016

Before you use the rollback option Back up your data Find product keys for your Windows 7 or 8 system.

You should not need them, but just in case.




For Rollback Open the Start menu, select the Settings app, and go

to Update & Security > Recovery.




After Rollback Older programs may need to be reinstalled Old Passwords may need to be used

After the 30 days, Do a clean install of your old system. You need

product keys Use a System Image that you saved previously

Problems with Toshiba Laptops Forced Updates Windows 10 Service Agreement WUDO Wi-Fi Sense Microsoft Edge Cortana


Problems with Toshiba Laptops Bruce Arnold, who runs the C Programmers SIG,

reported to the ACGNJ that a club member with a Toshiba laptop could not install Windows10 and "has left the laptop with the Bridgewater Microsoft store to resolve the Windows 10 issue."

He also has a Toshiba Laptop with Windows 7 and is holding off until this problem is resolved.


Forced Updates This is an old issue. Updates will be installed as

they become available. You cannot choose when and if to install updates.

This is Microsoft’s response to 60% of users never install updates, creating a major security problem


Windows 10 Service Agreement The Windows 10’s services agreement: the

operating system has the right to scan all software and hardware on your computer and disable anything it believes is illegal.

Also included in Windows Phone and X-Box Live Service Agreements

There’s a good chance any pirated software you run on Windows 10 may not last much longer.

Comments about Windows 10Cortana Cortana is a “personal assistant” that learns about you

from your email, web searches, calendar etc. If you find this creepy, you can turn it off.

– To end the collection of data through it, type “cortana” in the search box and click on the first link in the search results (system settings). Then slide the off/on switch to “OFF".
