2. Who is Harriet?

  • She was a runaway slave from Maryland
  • She is known as the Moses of her people
  • She lead hundreds of slaves to freedom
  • She found the underground railroad
  • Later she came a spy for the Civil War
  • She also became a nurse

3. More about Harriet

  • Her name at birth was Araminta Ross
  • She was one of 11 kids
  • Harriet helped over 300 slaves become free between 1850-1858 all through the underground railroad
  • She moved to Pennsylvania and joined the abolitionist cause. They worked to end slavery.
  • Soon she became a conductor on the Underground Railroad that helped free slaves
  • That is how she found the Underground Railroad and lead to many slaves to freedom
