Greetings from the Festival Committee!
This year, Oktoberfest is held Friday September 11, 2015 through Sunday, September 13, 2015 (the weekend after
Labor day).
Our committee needs help from all Germania members and friends with organizing and implementing our club’s
major fundraiser of the year... OKTOBERFEST! Perhaps you can donate a few hours of time to make this year’s
event a success. Contact any committee member if you can help before the festival
with: Advertising, Decorating, or Cooking and Baking.
We also need hundreds of volunteers during the festival. Please look for the
volunteer book (usually it’s on the bar at the clubhouse) and sign up for a 4-hour
shift – remember, your shift includes FREE admission AND a free meal and drink!
So, after your shift, you can enjoy the festivities. Please call Germania Hall if you cannot come in to sign up.
Festival Committee Members: Kevin Blatz, Angie Dourdis, Stan Elmendorf, Carol Ann Fischer, Jim Gordon,
Georgia Herring-Trott, Sue Koppenhaver, Joe Lindner, Helga Nowak-Razey, Michael Reichert, Sylvia Reuter, Robb

It's hard to believe
that summer is almost over. I hope you have been able
to relax and enjoy the lazy hazy days of summer with
your family and friends.
At the Annual Meeting, it was gratifying to receive your
vote of confidence in electing me President once again.
Welcome to the Executive Board: John Trott, Vice President; Bill Reuter,
Secretary; Robb Rose, Treasurer; and Michael Reichert, Financial
Secretary and newly elected trustees Sue Koppenhaver and Joyce
Schonmann.
I want to sincerely thank Stephen Ren and Melissa Wagner for their
dedicated service to Germania. Stephen, in addition to his secretarial
duties, successfully oversaw the insurance claim and reconstruction of the
pavilion. Best wishes to both Steve and his wife Peggy in their new
endeavors in Boston. Melissa has devoted hundreds of hours
enthusiastically heading our Oktoberfest and Maifest Committees. Our
club would not be in such a sound financial position without Melissa's
energetic contributions. Besides the festivals, she was always working
with the kitchen committees and tending bar at numerous club functions.
I will miss all the time we've spent working on the Board and will enjoy
seeing her at the bar at future Germania events.
The Oktoberfest countdown clock is ticking away. This year, more than
ever before, we are relying on your willingness to volunteer. The
volunteer book is at the clubhouse by the bar. Please seek out the book
and get involved. There are many shifts and positions that need to be
filled --- kitchen duty, the bar, pretzel sales, raffle, entrance gate, cashiers,
security, parking, playground, pre-festival site and food preparation,
cleanup and more....We can find the perfect spot for you. You get free
admission for working a shift, as well as a meal and "liquid" refreshment.
The work, while a little hectic at times, is really a lot of fun! Oktoberfest
is our number one fundraiser and we rely on its revenue to keep the club
going. So please consider helping us as much as your time and schedule
allows. I promise you will enjoy the camaraderie! Please invite and
encourage your family, friends, coworkers and neighbors to come to the
Oktoberfest and enjoy the great food, entertainment and of course the
beer.
I look forward to seeing you at Oktoberfest and also at our various events
this coming fall.
Sincerely yours,
Carol Ann Fischer, President

The Germania Tax Fund Committee is gearing up for the next contest!
What does the Tax Fund do? We raise money to pay our taxes through
the bi-annual Tax Raffle! Our club, with its clubhouse, festival grounds,
pavilion, and soccer field, is so fortunate to have a huge base of
supporters whose hard work allows our programs to flourish. Many of our supporters contribute to the Tax
Fund by buying raffle tickets twice a year for the drawings held in March and October. We send out 5 raffle
tickets to every friend and member of Germania. Your donation of $5 for each ticket gives you 8 chances to
win $100! Drawings are held every 4 days in the month - and the first winner's ticket goes back into the basket
for a bonus drawing! Look for the envelope at the end of August (and January). The raffle proceeds helps pay
our land and school taxes. If we forgot to send you tickets, you can still buy them at the clubhouse. Or you can
contact me, Georgia, at (845) 452-2911.
The lucky winners of the March raffle are:
March 1 - Paul Schnecke,
March 5 - Fred Doneit, March 9 - Ed Fikis,
March 13 - Cathy DeLaHoyde, March 17 - Phil and
Hans Franzen-Nicholson, March 21 - Joseph O'Connell, March 25 - W. Lackner, and March 29 - Hedy Parslow.

News from your Germania Men & Ladies Chorus
Voices of Spring- a fitting name for the Germania Singer’s Spring Concert. It was a great success
with lots of good food, good music and good people. The “grand buffet” was received by some as
wonderful and by some as too cumbersome, a new and different experience to be learned from.
On the weekend of June 12th thru 14
th several of the singers participated in the 37
th NYS
Sängerbund’s Sängerfest in Utica. As always, the mass chorus concert was impressive. Even
though many of the singers from all over the state are a little more “mature”, their voices still
sound as youthful and clear as many years ago. Unfortunately most clubs around the have
dwindling memberships but there were still about 120 voices on stage. What a fabulous sound!
The dinner celebration at Copperfield’s Restaurant was a great way to finish the season and what a fun time to just
casually enjoy Gemütlichkeit and chit-chat without having to keep on a schedule of some kind.
Sadly missing due to illness are Helmut
Loibl and Herman Koelmel. The singers
wish them both a speedy recovery and hope
they regain their strength and happy spirit
soon.
The Singers will resume rehearsals on
August 24th and prepare for the upcoming
Germania Oktoberfest. We hope that everyone will join in the fun of the sing-along songs again, as we did last year. The
words will be printed out, so no excuses not to participate
We are already planning our fall concert to be held on Sunday, November 8th around 1PM. On the menu will be
Jägerschnitzel and Arnold will provide the music after the concert for your dancing and listening pleasure. Look for our
flyer as time comes closer.
Last, but not least, the Singers would like to extend a huge “Thank You” to the many volunteers who have helped us out
again this past season. The list is very large and I’m afraid I would forget someone if I start listing names. So please, if
you were there for us know that we truly do appreciate your help!

was a very successful event for Germania. First, I would like to
thank all the volunteers who so graciously offered their time and

Dance news from Germania Almrausch Schuhplattler Verein
Our Vorplattler wrote about our anniversary dance in the last Germania Newsletter issue, but this memorable
event is worth repeating, and adding my thoughts to it. The 45th Almrausch Stiftungsfest held on May 30th at
Germania Hall was a huge success thanks to all the teamwork of our adult and kinder members and parents,
under the leadership and direction of our co-chairs, GJ Doedee and Beverly Orser. Working together ensures
an enjoyable event.
I don't know how many superlative adjectives you have tucked away in your own personal "word bank" but I
think I heard them all Saturday night from our guest Vereine, family members and friends. Our chef, Gerhard
Stoetzel and his staff, were recipients of these accolades as well. The attendees may not recall some of the
smaller details taking place during the evening, but they will never forget the Kassler Rippchen dinner!
Comments such as "I can't believe I ate the whole thing" were heard more than once!
How many times over the years did we think that we, as a club, would
not survive another year or to the next Stiftungsfest celebration but we
did. And we did it in style! Thanks to all the visiting clubs,
Germania members, family and friends for all your support. It means
a lot to us and has given us the motivation and inspiration to reach 50
years in 2021! (Is it possible to top the 45th???)
There are too many people we owe thanks to and
we cannot name them all. But these random
pictures (out of too many to publish) remind me
to mention this: Thank you Marijo for the
beautiful and delicious cake; thank you Andrew Orser
for making the floor stand for our flag; thank you Germania member
volunteers; and thank you to our visiting Trachtlers who added to the
evening's entertainment with their musical talents. And superlative thanks to
each and every dancer!
As this newsletter is being released, I have just returned with our Verein
from the Gauverband Nordamerika's bi-annual 25th Gaufest hosted this year
in Milwaukee by the club SVEV D’Oberlandler. Watch for news about that
event in Germania's next newsletter!
We will rehearse on August 14th in preparation for Germania's Oktoberfest. If we do not see you then, enjoy the
remainder of the summer and we shall see you at the festival!!
- Sincerely, Christine Pattantyús, President of Germania Almrausch SV.

Rudolf Dehnert
Rudy was born in Germany and came to the USA via Canada. Rudy was a member of the soccer team in the
late 1950s and played for many years. When Rudy and his friends got too old to play in the league, they
thought of starting an "old-timers" team that Rudy ended up managing. It still exists today, but is now called
the "Over 40s Team".
Rudy is an exceptional artist. He always painted the posters for
Germania's events that used to hang at Germania's front door at the old
clubhouse. He also made numerous designs and displays for IBM.
His late wife Inga was a very talented seamstress. She passed away in
December 2006. They have two children, Peter and Susie. They both
sang in Germania children's chorus together with the children of Janett
Frank, Katherine Ulrich, Christa Reuter, Johanna Gilgert, Pat
Kemmerer, and other friends. His son Peter also enjoyed playing soccer.
Peter lives in Houston, Texas and Susie lives in Munich, Germany.
Rudy first lived in Poughkeepsie, then moved back to Germany for a
few years. The family returned to New York and moved to Milton
where they bought and renovated their home to make it look Bavarian.
Rudy is a talented woodworker who made furniture and cabinets. He
has many interests; one of which is astronomy. He belongs to an
Astronomy Group and enjoys stargazing. He also loves photography
and creates his own Christmas cards.
He started the Stammtisch group that meet for Wednesday lunch at Germania. He carved the mug that you see
on their table every Wednesday when Rudy and his long time friends Hans Stuewer, Otto Klassen, Hubert
Gillner, Adolf Clausen, Herb Puberl, Gunter Henrich and Karl Gilgert meet for lunch.
Rudy was honored for his 50 year (LIFE) membership at Germania during the Annual Membership Dinner last
January. Because he was unable to attend the event, his good friend and fellow Life member, Herbie Puberl,
accepted his certificate and 50 year pin.

A group of soccer players and their wives travelled to Montreal in July to visit our very best
friend, Ayman Soliman, who has been living in Canada for three years. The group had a great
time seeing Ayman and catching up on old times. It just goes to show that you can leave
Germania but Germania will NEVER leave you! We miss Ayman and can’t wait for the time
when you come back to play soccer with us again!
