Fifth Sunday of Easter May 10, 2020

BISHOP’S REFLECTION May 2020 There is no one who is too self-sufficient, tough or powerful that, sometime in their life, they didn’t need a mother, a mom. Even the Son

of God needed the love of a mother! The love of a mother is love that is nourishing, protecting & unconditional. It’s a love which impacts & influences the formation of the life of her child.

This year, as we acknowledge our mothers on Mothers’ Day, let us not

forget to thank God for our “Blessed” Mother. On Mount Calvary,

Jesus entrusted his beloved mother to St. John as he proclaims from the cross: “Behold, your mother;” so, too, he says to us during this Easter season. Just as John took Mary into his home, let us imitate him and welcome her into our home and hearts.

The Church reminds us that this month of May is dedicated to the Blessed Mother. Together, as a family, create a sacred space in your home, a prayer corner. Within that space, set up a Marian shrine. Place a statue, picture or icon of Mary and decorate it with candles and flowers. Let it be an area where you, and your children, can gather to pray the Rosary along with other special devotions. Let it be for you a sanctuary of peace & consolation during this time of “sheltering-in-place.”

As we pray the Rosary during the month of May, let us revisit and take to heart the message of Mary given to the Three Shepherd Children of Fátima. Her message to us, and to the world, is a plea for prayer, penance and selfsacrifice for the sake of “poor sinners.” It is a message

more relevant, now, than ever.

Our Blessed Mother, Our Lady of the Rosary, is concerned for us, her children. She wants us to grow closer to her Son, Jesus, by growing in holiness. She asks us to be concerned, as she is, for her children, our brothers and sisters, who do not know her Son. She is concerned for their eternal souls. She intercedes on their behalf as she prays: “Jesus,

lead all souls to heaven, especially, those in most need of your mercy.”

During this time of trial, Pope Francis re-echoes the call of the Third Message of Fátima: “Penance, Penance, Penance!” His Holiness

reminds us that it isn’t so much that God is judging us at this time, but we are to judge ourselves; for this is the time for us “to choose.” This

pandemic has placed before us an opportunity to choose and reflect on the direction of our lives; to prioritize the areas of our lives; to let go of sin – repent – in order to be alive in the Risen Lord, Jesus.

As we anticipate May 13th, the anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady at Fátima, I conclude with a prayer taught to the Shepherd Children by the Angel of Peace: “My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love you. I ask pardon of You, for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love You.”

May the prayers of Our Lady of Fátima, Our Blessed Mother, grace us during this month of May. Let us remember: “There comes a time in everyone’s life, when one is in need of a mother – a “blessed” Mother

– now, is that time!

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us!

Grace and Mercy, Bishop Cotta

SACRIFICIAL GIVING

Give back to the Lord a sacrifice, a share of what the Lord has so generously given to you.

Next week’s bulletin will have an update on our giving totals.

You can mail in your envelopes or you can access our online giving. God bless you for your generosity.

“The point is this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver”. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7

STEWARDSHIP NEWS “The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.” (1 Peter 2:7)

Every person has been given gifts from the Holy Spirit. These are called “charisms” and they are used to build God’s kingdom on

earth. While many people are able to recognize their natural talents and abilities, they may be unsure of their charisms. If you know someone who is struggling for a direction in life, give them a little encouragement. Help them discern their charisms and how God is calling them to use them. Remember – no gift is too small or insignificant in God’s salvation plan.

PRAYER, CONFESSIONS AND ADORATION: On Monday, May 11 at 6-7pm we will be having Confessions and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Like last week, Adoration will take place in the NORTH parking lot. In addition, we will be opening up the church for prayer starting next week. There are only 10 people allowed inside the church at one time and social distancing protocol will be used as per county guidelines. Please wear a mask at all times that covers your mouth and nose. Wipes will be provided for you to wipe down the chair and kneeler after praying. The schedule will be as follows: Monday and Tuesday, 10:30am-12pm and on Wednesday and Friday at 5:30-6:30pm. Please enter on the NORTH side of the building.

SANCTUARY LAMP: The Sanctuary Lamp burns continuously to remind us that Jesus is present in the Tabernacle. It is a mark of honor to remind the faithful of the presence of Christ, and is a profession of our love and affection. If you wish to have the Sanctuary Lamp burning in memory of a loved one, make arrangements with the office. It will burn for one week and will be published each week in the bulletin.

BMA UPDATE: All Saints has reached 74% of our 2020 BMA Goal as of May 6! Our “percent of participation” is at 22%. Please remember that anything over our goal comes back to All Saints. We sincerely appreciate all those who are supporting our 2020 BMA. God bless you for your generosity.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all mother’s and mother’s to

be! We thank you for your vocation and the gift of your motherhood. As Cardinal Mindszenty said, the Most

Important Person on earth is a Mother! God bless you all and enjoy these words the good Cardinal penned many years ago.

Fr. Tom

The Most Important Person on earth is a mother. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more

magnificent than any cathedral – a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby’s body…

The angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God’s creative miracle to bring new saints to

Heaven. Only a human mother can. Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creature; God joins forces

with mothers in performing this act of creation… What on God’s good earth is more glorious than this: to be a

mother? – Venerable Joseph Cardinal Mindszenty
