I loved Carl and cherished our friendship. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. And may Carl rest in peace and rise in glory. Much love to you.(JonathanDimmock, concertorganist)

I’ve admired thequalityof yourwork formany years.Yourlegacy of musical excellence will never be forgotten. (NyleHallman,CentralUnionChurch)

I remain with you in grief and in hope. Hardly a day goes by without thinking of you and of the loss of our Carl. How I will miss catching up with him at conferences, or playing for a German Vespers, or listening/sharing in the latest choral piece, whether on CD or in print. He was a great inspiration and example of a church musician, and the world is poorer with his being called into the nearer presence. (BruceBengtson,LutherMemorialChurch,Madison,WI)

My heart is full of memories of my cherished friendship with Carl. We go back a long way, in a mutually admiring and supporting alliance that remains dear to me. What a thoughtful, kind man, and splendid musician he was. Now he has gone to join ‘The Choir Invisible, whose music is the gladness of the world.’ I still remember Carl playing the Chopin E minor concerto with dash and panache! His intelligence, humor and essential kindness were always at the fore. He loved you dearly and I could see that your marriage was a wonderful partnership. May the many memories you have now, bring you much comfort and healing. You and your fam-ily are in my thoughts and prayers. (RobinMcCabe,Universityof Washington)

Together you made the world a more beautiful place with your music. (NeilRasmussen, organist)

Chance or providence landed us in Hawaii and after a brief search for a church home at which to make music, we were lucky to join the choirs at LCH. It was Carl who lit my passion for 17th century Baroque music and first introduced me to the St. Matthew Passion. There is no way I would be directing choirs at the collegiate level without my experiences at LCH. Carl exposed me to a wealth of quality literature and brought me back to music after being away. I will never be able to repay you, Carl, for your contributions to my ethos as a conductor. Thank you, Carl and Kathy, for your friendship and your music.(MarkBoyle,choraldirec-tor,formerchorister)

I will forever love Carl for all his wonderful talents that he so willingly shared. With all of us, music was so easy for him, for me it was difficult in so many ways, but he was so calm and confident and I always felt encour-aged singing for him. He helped me become a professional singer and I will always remember him with joy and gratefulness. His fantastic productiv-ity and unbelieveable energy will remain much like a divine inspiration to all of us music lovers. Aloha and thank you always for such musi-cal beauty that entered this world through Carl. (SisselIreneSødal, formerchorister)

Carl was my link to my beloved Bach. Carl filled my life with music in a way that would not have been possible in all but a few places in this world. Through Carl I have lived a life in Hawaii that was richer than I had ever imagined. I can never repay the debt that I owe him in music, culture and his driving engagement. (LarryNitz, chorister)
