    are satisfied Buddhists, Shintoistsor Comnvanifits, uninterested in a"AVesteru religion," and unwilling tomeet the demands of Clu'istianity. Onthe other hand, a few are seeking theChrist. Our task is to locate thesefew and interest others.The first instrument for making

    time we wore really surprised whenSatoo San brought us a qucer-.shapodstraw cage. It glistened prettily init's twisted ihap(> and we wonderedwhatever could be inside. Can yonguess? I t was a big grasshopper!His queer little cage would open atany of tlie corners, since it was madeof jointed rice straw. We liked toopen the cage and food the "birdie."Do you know what he liked to oat? Hoate green cucumbcrs! OnceDaddy gavehim some cabbage but ho wouldn't, eatit and cried almost all night.Wo usually called him "birdie," butwe also called him by his Japanesenajno, "kirigirisu " When we got usedto his cry we liked to liear him sing.I t was really cold cmc night and otn*"l>irdie" died, but we sti l l have his])retty cage that swirls in the wind.A grasshopper that eats cucambcrsandsings - now iqn't that a ctrango gift?
