We welcome you in the name of our Savior! We are anxious to share with you the blessings of the Gospel, and pray that you will leave us this morning spiritually nourished for the week to come and return again to worship with us next Sunday. Theme: Today’s service brings us the third in our series of four sermons in the series “Timely Warnings From Our Loving Savior.” Today Jesus warns us against selfishness and sinful pride, and urges us to be humble Christians.

Scripture Lesson: Proverbs 25:6,7 Self-exaltation has no place in the life of God's child. 6 Do not exalt yourself in the king's presence, and do not claim a place among great men; 7 it is better for him to say to you, “Come up here,” than for him to humiliate you before a nobleman. Hymn of the Day: 491 O Master of the Loving Heart Sermon Text: Luke 14:1,7-14 1 One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee, he was being carefully watched… 7 When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table, he told them this parable: 8 “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. 9 If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this man your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. 10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all your fellow guests. 11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” 12 Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. 13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed. Altar Flowers: The flowers that beautify our service today were given to God’s glory by the Reinhold family in honor of Ben and Kristi’s 10th anniversary.

Last Thursday Worship Service: Thursday, September 1st, is our last summer Thursday evening worship service. Thursday worship services will resume next summer.

Church Picnic: All are invited to the Divine Grace Church Picnic, Sunday September 11th. This picnic is in conjunction with our annual “Rally Around the Word” Sunday. Join us right here at church- food will be served at 12:30. Bring a dish to pass, lawn chairs, lawn games and Frisbees. Please sign up on the Fellowship Hall bulletin board if you plan to attend.

Open Forum: We’d like to invite all of our members to attend a special informational meeting on Sunday, September 11 from 9:30-10:30 am. We have some plans and some facility items that will need attention in the near future, so we’d like to share information with all of our members, get some initial reactions, and attempt to answer any questions that you may have. We will hold the meeting in the church, since the Fellowship Hall will be set up for Rally Around the Word. Please plan to attend, we’d love to have a good turnout!

Attention All Church Organizations: All organizations of the church/school are asked to please put together a display “advertising” your group’s activities for “Rally Around the Word” on September 11th. Please plan on being in the Fellowship Hall from 9:00-9:30 am to answer questions about your work and encourage other members to become involved. Tables will be set up in the Fellowship Hall by Sept. 9th so you can set up your display.

Parents of 7th and 8th Grade Students: Confirmation Class for 7th and 8th graders (who do not attend Divine Grace school) will begin on Monday, September 12th, from 5:30 to 6:40 pm. If you have a child entering 7th or 8th grade and have not received an informational letter/email, please speak to Pastor. Thank you!

It’s Archery Camp Time again! It’s Archery Camp Time again! Archery camp is coming up quick – Fri, Sept. 23rd thru Sun, Sep 25th – at Camp Killarney in Irish Hills, MI. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it – it’s for boys in grades K-8 and their parent. We camp in tents in a group camping site with St. Paul’s, Livonia and St. Peter’s, Plymouth. Cost should run about $25 per person and includes camping fees, all meals, equipment and lots of archery and fun. No experience needed – qualified instructors teach the kids (and dads) the proper way to shoot at both paper targets and 3D targets in the woods. Please look for a sign-up sheet in the church and school entry – more information to follow. We do need someone from DG to volunteer to be the lead from DG that weekend; we have a couple people willing to help with the prep work but they might not actually be able to go that weekend. Wednesday Morning Bible Study: Wednesday Morning Bible Study will start a new year on Wednesday, September 14th. The class will meet each Wednesday during the school year from 9:30-10:30 am. Come and be nurtured in the Word of God!

Forward Magazine has been placed into the mailboxes of those who requested it. There are a few extra copies on the credenza in the church entryway – help yourself. There are also copies left of Meditations if you need one.

Sunday School Teachers: If you would like to teach (or team-teach on a rotating basis) or to be a classroom helper, please sign up and speak with Pastor Voss for more details.

Chair Fund: We will be replacing the chairs in the Fellowship Hall very soon, and we are looking for gifts to sponsor a chair. They are about $30 per chair. Please consider making a special gift. Simply place your check in an envelope marked “Fellowship Hall Chairs.”

Rally Sunday: Sunday, September 11th is our annual “Rally Around the Word” Sunday. Members, please plan to check out the displays before and after Bible Class. This will also mark the first day of Children’s Sunday School, starting at 9:30 am. The church picnic will be held at Divine Grace, starting at 12:30 pm.

Children’s Sunday School begins on September 11th. Students 3 years old through 6th grade are welcome and encouraged to attend. Classes meet in various classrooms throughout the building. There will be signs posted by the classroom doors to direct you. This is a wonderful opportunity to grow in God’s amazing Word!

Sunday, September 11, 2016 Come before or after Bible Class and visit the displays prepared by

church and school organizations. This is your chance to get involved! Then join us at church for a picnic. See you there!

Central Africa Medical Mission (CAMM): CAMM is in need of soft toothbrushes (children’s and small adult’s), sunblock, bandages (3 inch wide by approx 5 ft long - can be white, blue or green material), and hats for babies. If you are able to help out by purchasing items to assist the mission, please bring them in and drop them off in the box located in the church entryway by September 1. Thank you for your support!
